Extreme Diet reverses Type II Diabetes

BBC News - Type 2 diabetes in newly diagnosed 'can be reversed'

Can we have the same effects with HCG? I ask, because technically on HCG, you are tapping into the fat and that is in the blood stream still. I can't imagine doing a very low calorie and fat diet without HCG!!!!

According to the article you would have to be on the 600 calorie diet for 8 weeks. Since most of us only do P2 for 3-6 weeks it might not be enough time to be effective. I wonder how the people in the study were even able to stay on that low of calories for 8 full weeks without using hcg. Or maybe they were using hcg and that wasn't mentioned because it wasn't relevant.

If a person has diabetes, they may choose to do a 60 day round if there is a chance it could cure them. I wasn't able to get my numbers down doing purely Atkins, but this HCG has me in the normal range and I am very curious to see what is going to happen when I go back to lowcarb.

I'm also not sure if a cure is possible since HCG taps into fat stores and the article explains that the very low sugar and low fat in the blood for that long of a time is key? Am I not understanding it?

I TOTALLY do not know how they could survive for 8 weeks without HCG!

I agree -- low calorie diets usually end up breaking down muscle for energy. I think HCG protects us from that, but I really wonder about how it would work otherwise. As we know, lower muscle is the opposite of what we want -- low muscle, lower BMR, more yo-yo effect as soon as you eat more than 500 calories . . .

This is exciting for me!! I have been on hHCG for 49 days so I will be on it for the 8 weeks before my 60 days are up. My glucose has returned to normal and I no longer take my 2 diabetes meds. I of course chalked it up to the VLCDs but now have hope to have my diabetes reset as well as my metabolism!

FYI - I was diagnosed EXACTLY 4 years ago so this is why I am particularly excited.

I'm looking forward to seeing how you do with the diabetes after you begin P3/P4.

FYI, when I went to my endocrinologist after my first round, he took me off metformin. I don't have diabetes but I take metformin for glucose intolerance. When I went back last week, my glucose levels were back up so he put me back on the metformin. I've been in P3/P4 for the last 6 weeks.

That would be amazing! I was pre-diabetic when I went to the doc for my 1st round of Hcg. It definitely brought me down to perfect blood sugar and I have been perfect ever since. Even though I have gained some of the weight back, my blood sugar has remained in the perfect range. It has been 3 years since the scary pre-diabetic diagnosis also.

Hi Raven-I'm sorry that you are insulin resistant still. There seems to be a magical number of days you have to stay at such a low calorie for the diabetes to be reversed according to the article. I don't know how I can make it 60 days! But, I would be willing to try it if I thought the HCG way of doing the low calorie diet would work. My concern is that the article sites it has something to do with the liver and such having a break from high calories, sugar and fats...HCG releases fat from our stores, so they are still being processed by the liver and such....would it still work?

Sunday-that's great about your sugar levels still being good. I hope mine will stay good after going to P3/P4!

I think you're right about the magical number of days but I really don't think I could do 60 days on P2. It's all I can do to get through 26 days. It seems that P3 has had a negative effect on my cholesteral as well. The doctor increased my cholesteral meds also. The only thing that didn't go up is my blood pressure. I was able to stop taking one of my high blood pressure meds.

I think you bring up a valid point about our bodies still processing the abnormal fat stores we are releasing but maybe since it's not actual food, it doesn't have to be processed by the liver. Either way, Dr S didn't think it was a good idea to go over 40 days so I would love to know more about how this 60 day diet would make a difference.

I'm going on day 21 and I would have to agree with you...doing 60 days would be tough. Good to hear you are down to one bp med! I cannot even fathom this low of calories for 60 days without HCG...heck, I wouldn't want to do 2 days without HCG!

VLCD53 for me. It hasn't been tough... quite the opposite. I have very much enjoyed breaking free of the addiction to food. It has been very empowering to me.

My bloodwork is this Friday and my A1C is next Wednesday so.... we'll see!

Lilac, Yes keep us posted on your results. I don't have to go back to the doctor until September so hopefully my bloodwork will be better by then. By then I will have finished my third and final round so maybe that will help.
