Now That You've Done a Round or Two, What Would You Have Done Differently?

An old Pennsylvania Dutch saying from my Mom:
We are too soon old and too late smart.

Any insights for newbies? If you had it to do over, what would you do or not do again?

I would do my P2 for at least 30 days and I would make sure my LDW was cemented in for at least several days before starting P3. (Thanks, Marie! )

Also, if it could be helped, I would not eat restaurant food until I'm into P3 for at least a week.

I would not switch from drops to pellets in the middle of a round as I could not find my sweet spot and suffered with uncontrollable hunger for several days.

I would drink water and do some walking more consistently.

YMMV

I'm sure there are more....

I would NOT go on vacation on the first day of P3. It was a disaster!! I gained like 5#s in three days, and had a hard time stabilizing after that (thus this re-do round).

I would be more diligent about my water intake.

I would meal-plan, and prepare meals ahead of time to take the guess-work out of it (compiling menus right now).

I would walk more.

I would not try "pickled" radishes.

I would do my 1st round for 30 days and also make sure that I was more stable before jumping into P3.

I would do a complete round without any interruptions for the min 21 vlcd.

I would also do a correction day the same day I was over the 2 pound window for my ldw in P3, so I would have to make sure that I had the steak or eggs or greek yogurt on hand to be able to do it.

Drink lots of water, do my 1st round strict protocol, take my vitamins.

AACKK! Now I am wondering if I should go ahead and go 30 days and stabilize. This is day 24 for me, and I just decided today to go onto P3.
Cindy, sorry for the repeat.

This thread is a great idea. Thanks for starting it!

I didn't mean to make you second guess your move to P3, that was more for myself as my 1st round I had to take an interruption because I ran out of drops on day 19, the 2nd round I struggled and cheated a couple of times and the 3rd round there was a funeral so I ate off plan again before I was able to get my min. 21 vlcd. This is the 1st round that I am going to complete with a full round without cheats or interruptions.

I do know from reading about other people most say they would have gone at least 30 days but if your head isn't in it then it is better to move to P3 rather then cheat and suffer a setback.

Oh, Cindy you didn't. No worries. I could hang in there another six days without a cheat. I've been on plan all cycle. But, since I made up my mind today there is no turning back now. My dh is looking forward to me having pork roast with him this weekend, lol. WOW 3 rounds of P2. You are my hero

 Thanks I had alot to lose so I will still do another 1 or 2 rounds.

I know what you mean once you have made up your mind to move to P3 you just have to go as the food is so yummy, I have been stalking the P3 thread drooling over the food everyone is eating. I will be joining you in either 2 days or 8 days depending on how much I lose in the next couple of days.

You're very welcome.
What P3 foods have you eaten?

It's funny, not until after I started R2P3 did I keep reading that 30 days happens to be a magic number for P2

I haven't eaten any yet. Today is my last day on hcg. My next two days are my 500 calorie days. Saturday is when I start. Do I count my first full calorie day as day 1 of P3 or when exactly does it start?

I see that! Coming off P2 I made a pork roast (butt) with some fresh garlic, sweet onions and cabbage all roasted with it. It was so good I think I was moaning when I ate it.

I just started eating P3 foods 48 hours after my last dose (hhcg).

Thinly sliced radishes marinated in red wine vinegar & s/p. I'm not a big fan of radishes, anyway-- I might try roasting them this round & see if I like the flavor better.

I would plan when I started P2 better so that I had the option to go longer if I wanted. I also would cook more of my meals beforehand in P2 so that it would be quicker (I got to a point where I wasn't hungry and it was a real effort to make myself cook something.

I wouldn't wait until the stall gets to 9 days before doing an apple day. Going forward, I will do an apple day after a 4 day stall. Lesson learned.

What a trooper!
I became addicted to something similar in P2. I ate English cucumbers with raw coconut vinegar (Coconut Secret) or fresh lemon juice, dried dill weed & Celtic salt. I have continued to eat them since then!

Your mileage may vary, of course, on all these statements. Nothing is in concrete. Plenty of people have been successful doing or not doing any of these.

Not really a recipe but this is how I did the bone in pork butt (shoulder) roast

Preheat oven to 325
peel 5 or 6 garlic cloves place in roasting pan
seasonings of choice onto meat--both sides of course
brown both sides of meat in a little oil
place meat on garlic cloves
cut one or two sweet onions into eighths or quarters ( cut stem end out) and throw on top of roast
cut cabbage of choice into eighths (I've used Savoy, Chinese mostly) and throw on top of onions
Add about a cup of water
Cover and roast 1-1/2 hours or so depending on the size of your roast.
It is so delicious! The veggies sort of caramelize and taste very sweet.

I switched from drops to pellets after 5 days and had no problems. I also would use drops and pellets in the same day (for convenience). So like Catkin said everyone is different.

" I would not have drank a martini on my anniversary "
I drank plenty of water and followed the plan exactly, except for that night and it did set me back !

I would:

1 - take longer P3s and not cycle back too quickly and
2 - shorter P2s...
3 - not sweat the small stuff

That sounds yummy, have you ever tried Juniper Berries on Pork roast? You smash them and rub all over and it gives the yummiest peppery hint. I discovered that when trying to find a Chipotle Pork recipe andthats their secret!

I haven't, pepper is not my favorite seasoning--I trace it back to when I was a young girl. My Dad loved black pepper. He occasionally put the big grind stuff on some foods--- Ever since then I need to have finely ground black or white pepper and not much of it!

On the other hand, speaking of chipotle, have you tried Breakstones Zesty Blends Chipotle sour cream? It's pretty good!

Catkin, I love the quote!

Here are mine:

I'd listen carefully to my body. In R1 I went longer than 21 days, which some people do with no problems, but for me it was a struggle to keep going. So when my body first said, "Girl, I'm hungry and I'm gonna hold on to this weight" I should have listened!

I would have kept up with my exercise routine so I could have kept doing it right from the start. I picked it back up in my P3 and I kept it up in R2P2. Again, listen to your body. some days you'll have great energy, some not. Don't push yourself when you don't.

Eat the fruit! I have a family predisposition to diabetes, but have found that I can eat some fruit without it causing an issue. I have to measure religiously, but then I can enjoy strawberries and apples. I didn't always eat the fruit in R1, but I am enjoying it daily in R2.

Don't compare your losses, gains and stalls to anyone else. Each journey is unique.

Just FYI, stablizing happens in Phase 3, not Phase 2. I actually stablized really well in P3. It's just in P4 I got comfy and let 3 lbs come back.. not a huge deal I guess.

This round, Round 2 I am leaving out the grissinni/melba and I'm making sure I eat different meats for each meal, PLUS I'm taking my vitamins, B Multi, Potassium/Calcium/Magnesium mix and Biotin 5000mcg. I feel a lot better this round. I'm also walking every day, even if it's just around the block with the dog, 15 minutes of exercise is better than none! I'm doing 1.5 miles each day on the weekend. It's strenuous, but I power through it. HUGE loss after a few days! (stall usually do to muscle swelling)

Next round I will definitely load better and NOT feel guilty about it! I had no idea how important those 2 days of loading were.

I also didn't buy a food scale until half way through the phase...next time I will measure better.

I'll definitely try to drink more water!!

Round 1 May 18, 2011-June 30, 2011
180.5--160 Loss-20.5
