Going to try out some red wine vinegar...brand name suggestions?

I've never tasted the stuff. Going to the store shortly and I was just wondering if there are any particular brands that seem to be better than the others.

How do you like to use your red wine vinegar?

I don't use it in P2. Only ACV. I have heard that it's not on strict protocol, and I am. I dunno what difference it might really make. I prefer lemon on my salad anyways....or my "honey" mustard dressing.

Hi Marie. Well darn, I bought some. Now I'll have to decide whether or not to use it because I like to do strict protocol.

By the way I tried some of your "honey" mustard dressing. I love it!

Some people say it doesn't matter, and some people say the sugar content in it is higher than regular ACV. I honestly don't like vinegar that much anyway LOL.

If you decide not to use it in P2 at least you've got it for P3!

Drinking vinegar

I understand that drinking red wine or apple cider vinegar in water each day helps, but how much do you use and how does it taste?

Strict protocol a la P&I doesn't specify what kind of vinegars you can use. It just says "vinegar". I used red wine vinegar through my rounds and it has been fine for me. Like Marie says, just check for sugar content. YMMV

I always buy Pompeian brand. Years ago, cooks illustrated did a taste test of a bunch and rated it highest, and so I just stuck with it. I love making homemade salad dressings using it. P2 will make that tough with the no oil thing........bummer.

shelby - Yeah, I knew that p&i says vinegar is ok. Glad to know that you used it without any problems. Do you just use it in the same dressings that you would use the ACV for? Mine doesn't have any sugar in it so I figured it would be ok. I'll probably try it out and see how I do.

snaggle - Oh good, that's the brand I bought!

Yes I use it in dressings exactly like the ACV.

Shelby, by the way, I tried your "mexican" dressing recipe that you gave me with the cumin and chili powder. Very good!

Btw, the Mexican dressing is also really good if you sub out some or all of the ACV with lime juice.

Salad dressings:

Start with...
2T broth (beef, chicken or veggie)
2T apple cider or red wine vinegar
1/4t salt
1/4t pepper

For Italian add...
1t Italian seasoning
1/4t garlic powder
1/4t onion powder

For honey mustard add...
1T mustard (yellow or brown but check ingredients for sugar)
5 drops plain stevia or 1/2 packet Splenda or Sweet 'n Low

For a creamier dressing use...
2T Walden Farms Caesar, Ranch or Blue Cheese dressing in place of one T of broth and one T vinegar

For a different taste use...
2T orange juice, lemon juice or lime juice in place of the vinegar OR
2T salsa

Switch up spices. I like...
1t curry or
1t shallot pepper or
1t dill or
1t sage
