Tossing your old clothes
At what point do you toss your old clothes? I have 2 garbage bags FULL of clothes in a size 12/14 or Large. I have lots of really nice things that I cannot wear anymore. I'm afraid that if I get rid of them, I'll gain weight and need to wear them again and I would hate to have to buy new clothes again when I really loved my old clothes. It's like Murphy's Law is the way I'm looking at it. I could keep them and that means I won't gain the weight back LOL. But if I got rid of them...
I could take them all to the consignment shop. I could use the money I'd earn from selling them and I seriously have tons of great dress clothes, cute tops and shorts. When did you or did you get rid of your too-big clothes?

I have donated a total of 18 bags of clothing so far. I had clothes in sizes 22 to 32 and they really served as a psychological cushion (to have through fluctuating weight) so getting rid of them was a very important step for me. I don't want that safety net! I don't want to have to need a bigger size!
I am enjoying my new-found closet space a lot! ![]() Not to mention the clothes I have now take up a lot less room because there's much less fabric! |

I did keep one pair of 20W shorts I had from way back when. I had lost down to the size 12 and stayed there for years until I found hcg.

I didn't have to go and buy new again. I would just pick and be real choosy about the 1 or 2 things you save. Then toss the rest. It is great incentive to not let things get too far out of hand. |

I donated all my REALLY big stuff in the beginning in 26/28 sizes. I continued to do so as I went down. However, my winter/early spring stuff that I am now out of has barely been worn and I have 3 totes of nice quality pretty things in 1X/2X or 18/20 that I am going to sell on ebay. I am going to need new things and figure I can use the proceeds from that to buy them.

An acquaintance of mine went on the RXHCG a year and a half ago. As she lost, she would drop bags of clothes off at my house and say, "I've lost so much weight, I can't wear these anymore, but I bet you can." I'd close the door and just cringe. But, she had great taste in clothes and I would just snicker and think, she better not come back for these after she gains all of her weight back. And I honestly figured she would. Those were my days of really scoffing at HCG...my, "before I read up and investigated it for myself days."
In past, though, I have always gotten rid of my bigger clothes. I've gained some weight back, but have not had the clothes to change back up a size. I've managed to hold into this size, but one more pound up and I'd be caving in and buying more clothes.

I gave them to girls I work with. They were unable financially to buy new summer things (and I know how that is) so I gave them the clothes, it seems kinda weird to see them wearing my old clothes but great at the same time KWIM?

I have a lot of old t-shirts, shorts, etc. in bigger sizes, that aren't fabulous quality -- just casual clothes. Those go to a nearby shelter that gives them out to the poor. (Like Goodwill, but need-based to get stuff, so I like that better.)
My nicer, professional clothes go to Dress For Success. Feels great on all fronts! Not needing the bigger things, and helping others. |

I gave an entire back of the van full of nice, professional dress clothes to a woman's shelter in our town. Was the best feeling in the world. I'm not EVER going back.

I'm a cancerian hoarder so I have several sizes of clothes in my wardrobe. I should really think about tossing the bigger ones because I will NEVER need that size again!

You should! I know I donated over 10 trash bags of nice clothing (tossed out the really worn stuff) and I am NEVER going back into those sizes again!

Wow, I really respect that. That is brave. I am not proud of the heavy dose of cynicism I carry. And I really do love my clothes. I feel like I need to go through one winter first.
(Hey, I couldn't imagine going back to eating REAL food, burgers, cheese, heavy cream and not gaining again and THAT is happening). Yesterday I bought my FIRST size 8 that I've EVER bought in my adult life. (Ok, maybe it's because they are making the sizes bigger than 25 years ago..). But still, it'd be really cool to grab all the size 12's and 14's and get one of those huge space bag things and stuff them in the attic. This is so exciting ya'll!!! |
