What do you do with the extra ground beef and chicken in the package?

I'm referring to the part that is over your 100 gram servings.

Yesterday I threw it away. Seems like such a waste!

I weigh it all raw, figure out how many servings that is (usually 4-5) then cook it all at once, then weigh it again when it's cooked so I know exactly how much each serving weighs. Each time I need some beef I just take out the correct weight and add it to my cabbage or spinach, or whatever.

Sometimes I just make a big batch of P2 chili all at once and then parcel it out over 4-5 meals, depending on the weight.

I don't think that raw meat keeps well once it's out of the package, so this is the only way I can imagine you doing it without it going bad.

After I've cut it all up into individual servings, there's inevitably a few ounces left over. I weight it, freeze it, and label it --I figure I'll have a bunch of little bits, and will put them together into proper servings.

I cooked all my meat for the week on Sunday so I could get at least one more serving from the extra ozs off of each piece.

Oh, and when the weight doesn't work out right, I'll usually take the extra portion and add it to one of my 100g. portions, and make DH a hamburger, or give him a snack with some extra chicken, etc. He's always game for a snack.

If I didn't have such a handy way to dispose of it, I'd just freeze any extra.

Seriously, when I weight out my P2 food for the week, I put any little scraps in the freezer in a bag with the weight written on it. Then sometimes I pull out several of the same type and use it. In P3, I sometimes use those little ends for salad meat, since I can mix and match proteins and cheese

But the dog does appreciate a little smackerel here and there

This.

Some of my proteins come nicely packaged, like the IQF tilapia or shrimp, so there's no problem there.... I just buy a new package when I'm running out and have a meal of half old, half new.

For hamburger, I won't freeze it for long so I try to buy packages that are 14 or 17.5 oz. Sirloin and filet are tricky because I trim it, so I'm never sure how many ounces I'll end up with. Chicken, I eat so much of it that I'm fine with freezing the dab and combining it with some of a new package.

Yes! Everytime my dog sees me open up a package of meat or chicken, she comes right over and sits and waits expectantly! Drools, too!

I put mine in a ziploc and use it once my measured portions are finished and it's time to make a new batch. With 96/4 being almost 5 bucks a pound here... well, I don't love the dog THAT much!

I have big ziplocks labelled "Chicken" "Sirloin" etc.
I wrap each portion in plastic or freezer paper, or tuck it into a snack sized baggie. I put the packets into the big bags. The big bags don't get messy because each portion is wrapped up tight with a label showing the date I froze it.

When I am portioning the chicken, I do all of the chicken at once till I run out. I take filets and weigh them and if they are over 100g, I slice off a bit and weigh again, till the filet is 100g. then I put the slices aside, and weigh the next filet. Repeat. Once all the filets are cut, I take the smaller pieces and put them on the scale till they add up to 100g. I take some pieces off put smaller or larger pieces on till it's 100g, then I bag that as one portion for stir fry. I never waste any of the meat. The only parts that get fed to the cat are the visible fatty bits I cut off.

With ground beef, I weigh it all out similarly. a pound is a little bit over 400 something grams. so I weigh out 4-100g portions of beef and any leftover gets weighed and labeled and frozen till I buy beef again. Next time I weigh out the portions and add any I need to the old frozen meat to equal 100g and go from there.

Or, if you have one of those times when you feel bad and need extra protein, you have a portion of protein, less than 100g that you could have, without breaking up a pre-measured portion
