Crestor while on HCG
My dr wants me on crestor. My bad cholesterol is 186. I opted to start taking it along with my hcg diet because I know I can get my cholesterol where it neds to be within 6 mos and prolly come off the medicine.
Will Crestor be an issue on hcg though? |

I take Vytorin. Stopping was not negotiable with my doc when I informed him I was trying hcg. All the research I have done points to the VLCD protocol actually improving long term numbers. Although if you read P&I, there is a part where he addresses temporary high cholesterol (which I think a statin drug would help, don't you?) as a result of the protocol.

CMac - I don't know how high your total cholesterol is (although your LDL seems really high) but as a person who has battled genetic sky-high cholesterol (my body makes too much of it) all of my life, you should run some options past your doc and see what he says.
While I take Vytorin now, for over 6 months (straight through, although I have taken haphazardly for a long time before) I took herbal supplements instead. Statins are hell on your liver and muscles. Did you know that if you accidentally got pregnant while on a statin drug, they would usually recommend terminating the pregnancy due to the toxicity of the medication? Scary stuff. I started taking the supplements in October with a total cholesterol of 385. I took banaba leaf, bitter melon, guggul extract and garlic, and in 6 months lowered my cholesterol to 275. Yes, still very high, but probably the lowest it had been in well over 20 years. NATURALLY. My doctor was amazed. I chose to go on a statin drug after years of being resistant to the idea because my mother - all 120 lbs of her - had a heart attack in December and along with an artery having 100% blockage, she had a total cholesterol count of 404. She. Almost. Died. It scared the holy guacamole out of me. So much so that I am willingly taking the risk of damaging my body taking this awful (yet potentially life saving) pharmaceutical drug. Cholesterol is a patient and silent killer. My point (and I had one somewhere in here), is that you should ask your doc if you can try natural supplements instead of Crestor as a first option. If it doesn't work then yes you can agree to take a statin. They are just not the greatest thing to do to your body. There are many herbal and natural supplements that help lower cholesterol. There is cayenne pepper, beta-sisterol, even red yeast rice (warnings for this but I took it for a long time with no problems or ill effects).

Do research on taking statins before you start taking them! Go to Dr. William Davis' blog (he is a cardiologist) at The official blog for the Track Your Plaque program for heart disease prevention and reversal. Look at the studies! Women, who have not previously had a heart attack, have been shown not to be helped by taking statins. The side effects are terrible!
Try to lower your cholesterol through changing your diet first! And without knowing your particle size, your total LDL doesn't tell you anything anyway. Do research on cholesterol so you know exactly what lipid test you need. (VAP) Lots of great resources here if you look around! And I would venture to say that LilacBruze has a genetic form of high cholesterol that statins actually do help. Last edited by tcalhoun72; 05-31-2011 at 06:50 PM.. |

I have been on Crestor, Lipitor, Zytia, Zocor, you name it. Vytorin has been okay so far but I have a liver screening coming up in July so hopefully it will continue to be okay. Last edited by LilacBruze; 05-31-2011 at 07:12 PM.. |

Lots of people trust their doctors decisions and they end up with permanent side effects or worse... dead. Just saying... I completely trust my doctor as well but I told her it was a big fat negative when she wanted me to start taking statins. Last edited by tcalhoun72; 06-01-2011 at 07:19 AM.. |

idk have to get my paper to get that information and im lazy and not getting up right now. lol ill get back to you.
Ive also said no to statins for years from my PCP. My mother a doctor is on them and feels they are perfectly safe. With my family history and the fact they are temporary, I don't find it a huge deal. Many people die every day from tylenol too. risks vs benefits here hon. Ive researched till my head turned blue, when my own mother and 3 drs say I NEED statins Ill do them temporarily. My diet and the help of them will get my body where it needs to be within 6 months then I go off. Problem solved. if I start having any muscle pain I will for sure consult my endo. This is an interesting article from an MD about statins: Why Cholesterol May Not Be the Cause Of Heart Disease
Like several of you, the research I did about statins scared me to death. I chose not to take them. Losing weight has brought mine down. Articles like the ones above are starting to pop up as there are some doctors that think outside the box. Just sharing info ..... |
