Canned Asparagus vs fresh

I rarely can find it fresh at my store, seems they get it once a week and it gets all taken before I get to it. It isn't frozen either that I can see so I got it canned. Is that ok? It is green giant. A whole can is 186 grams so easy measuring for dinner.

I get mine frozen. They come in microwavable steam-type bags. I pop it in the micro and done in 4 min.!

I am afraid of the canned ones, thinking that it would have sodium that would make you retain water. Just my thoughts--really don't have a clue!

I have to seriously question those studies and how that data was obtained. Heating for the purpose of canning destroys certain vitamins, not to mention the risk as mentioned of added sugar, salt, and preservatives. Blanching and then flash-freezing limits the loss of vitamins and locks in most of them.

Frozen is sometimes even better than fresh, since much of the fresh produce for sale at grocery stores is picked before it has a chance to ripen and can be nutritionally stunted.

Both of the major chains in my area have frozen asparagus, usually on sale or buy 1, get 1 free. I have not checked the discount grocers like Aldi or Food 4 Less though, I don't normally shop there.

The one thing I would mention is the sodium. Just check contents for the one with the lowest.
