VLCD Breakfast Idea's

I wish I had done this yesterday.. I am on my 1st VLCD day and I need some ideas for what to make for a breakfast.. I gained so much on my loading that I do not want to screw this up.. Need help!!

I am going Rogue and I do not want to eat any fruit or bread as I am very sensitive to them and will probably gain more..
I would like to have my 0 fat yogurt but I am scared, has anyone used the Greek fat free plain yogurt??
Waiting for suggestions before I eat anything... LOL

Thanks in advance

I actually don't eat breakfast. I just have water and coffee all morning, which is great b/c I feel like I have a ton of food for the rest of the day. I have lunch around noon, my fruit an hour or two later, dinner at 6-ish, and my last fruit around 7:00.

I don't eat the bread, and for awhile I was thinking of cutting out the fruit, because I, like you, thought I couldn't handle the fruit/would not lose weight, etc. But now I'm grateful I kept them in my plan. Are you sure there's no way at all that you can have fruit? You might be surprised if you give it a try. It definitely adds variety to the plan, and fruit is (to me at least) just plain enjoyable.

Thank you Zbunny and I can do that, breakfast has always been hard one for me.. I do admit that I am pretty hungry right now..I actually feel a a bit shaky... hmmmm! and I took my drops at 7am, but I think the hunger is a result of those loading days..Boy, I really messed up my ketosis .. and I am putting all my faith into this HCG... Hoping with all my worth that it will work for me!!!:
Just curious about what your daily menu look like, and what fruits are you able to eat? If you don't mind sharing...

Absolutely. I keep a log so here is a cut and paste of a typical day:
(Note: I get up early in the a.m., at 4:30 or 5:00 depending on the day, and I used to take my pellets at that time, but I have since pushed them to around 9:30 a.m. and I've been doing MUCH better!

* 5:30-8:00 Americano w/ splash of nonfat milk + splash of half-n-half (Note: I sip it slowly so it lasts) + water w/lemon
* 9:30 4 pellets
* 12:30 Bragg’s chicken (100 g.raw) with 100 g. spinach sautéed in chicken broth + garlic
* 1:30 1/2 grapefruit
*2:30 4 pellets
* 6:15 100g (raw) grilled chicken + 120 g. cabbage sautéed in chicken broth + garlic and Frank’s
* 7:15: 100g. strawberries
* 7:45 4 pellets
* TONS of tea today (3 whole pots!) + water w/lemon

Here's another typical day (Actually, I usually have beef for one meal, and chicken for the other):

* 5:30-8:00 Americano w/ splash of nonfat milk + splash of half-n-half + water w/lemon
* 9:30 4 pellets
* 12:00 lunch – Chicken soup w/98g chicken (Note: This was cooked weight -- it was a large portion this day b/c I was feeling hungry) + 92g spinach + ½ cup broth + seasonings
* 2:00 ½ grapefruit
* 4:15 4 pellets forgot/kept drinking water so had to take late
* 6:40 dinner – 1 full can rotel + 82g. cooked grd beef (100 g raw)
*7:30 -- apple "pie" (sliced apple w/cinnamon with a touch of water microwaved for 1-2 min)
* 8:30 4 pellets
* Lots of water and tea all day

I don't always have 2 fruits each day, but I always have at least one. I seem to do best with grapefruit, but I like variety so I have an apple at least a couple of times per week, and fresh strawberries 3-4 times/week.

I also start my day with a dropperful of B-12 most days, and I can really tell the difference in my energy level if I forget. I take supplements regularly (I have for a long time) including ALA, spirulina, cal/mag/pot/zinc, and I sometimes take l-glutamine between meals -- really helps me to not be hungry. Lots of water w/lemon + tea helps too. I used to frequently drink wine in the evenings, but delicious hot tea (I have tons of teas so I mix them up -- favorites are Good Earth's original (decaf), Trader Joe's chamomile (tastes like honey), and Yogi's Stress Relief tea) has truly replaced that for me.

I feel like I have really overcome some bad habits, like the wine in the evening thing, which was usually accompanied by cheese, dark chocolate, or some other snack (or all of the above). Trust me, if I can do this, you can! It's really freeing to feel like "I" am in control of my eating, rather than eating on auto-pilot.

If you follow the plan you will lose
I am also not eating in the morning, just drinking coffee and water and do not feel hungry
I take my pellets around 8:30 AM 3 PM and 8 PM

If you look around the board there are alot of threads with recipes and typical menus
Some people have put alot of effort into their meals. I eat them quite simple, so my menu is not exciting,
I have never eaten the melba and I don't like grapefruit, so my fruit is an apple or strawberries and usually I only have 1 serving a day.
I have gone to ****** and keep my meals listed there and that gives me a calorie count on everything I eat

It's so funny -- I didn't like grapefruit either, unless it was sprinkled with sugar or sweetener, and even then, not crazy about it. But these amazing ruby red grapefruits that I get at Trader Joe's or Henry's? Oh my, so good! No sweetener needed at all! And so juicy! Yum. (Can you tell it's lunchtime and I haven't eaten yet? )

I'm not sure about that, but with such low calories, I wouldn't want to push them any lower.

The reason I don't eat the bread is that I almost always feel sick to my stomach when I eat wheat products, and these breadsticks were no exception -- I get bloated and "distressed" in the gut, so to speak. There are times when I'm okay, but I don't want to risk it, so I skip them. I end up right at 500 cal anyway, somehow (I track in ****** periodically to make sure, and since I eat pretty much the same foods most days, and because I weigh my foods religiously, I know I'm on track). I wouldn't skip them unless you truly have an allergy or major aversion to them. I don't think you'll lose faster, and I think doing so might make you even more carb sensitive down the line (as in, unable to ingest ANY carbs w/o a gain).

ETA: I just realized that you also listed "veggies" in your question. No WAY would I skip those! Not a chance. There would be nothing left to eat (200 g. of protein is all you'd have all day?) and you'd miss out on all of those wonderful vitamins! Not to mention flavor. Don't make this a miserable experience for yourself. Make it a change in how you view food. It is not the enemy!

Try to follow the protocol to a T, and only make adjustments if you realize you have to.

As a rule I seldom eat veggies or fruit, as they tend to wake up the hunger monster in me and usually stall my weight loss...and the bread is totally out of the question..
I am choosing not to follow the plan as directed and would like to do my own thing. If I choose to forgo the fruit and veggies why can't I just increase my protein so that I am still getting my 500 calories.. just in a different form. My goal is to lose and to be able to stick to the 500 calories...

Laschance -

I was in the exact same boat as you are. If I ate a smidge of fruit, I would gain 5 pounds. Veggies were better but even stuff like broccoli once a week would make me gain. I spent 3 months eating NO CARB (meat and eggs) and the second I added broccoli back, the 3 pounds that I had lost immediately returned. And starches? Forget about it! On this plan, I took a leap of faith. I am eating the veggies AND the fruit (and let me tell you after 8 years of no fruit it is like manna from heaven!) and I have lost 60 pounds since January in 2 rounds. I didn't add the grissini/melba because I have wheat issues as well, but everything else has given me absolutely no issues, cravings, hunger, blood sugar, nothing. I would recommend trying the plan as written if you have no health issues to prevent it (I actually wish that I had added grissini in my first round) and taking that leap of faith that this ISN'T like other plans and that there is a reason for the foods. If you have issues you could always cut stuff out later. Obviously you can do whatever you choose. Just my 2 cents! Good luck whatever you decide!

I did strict protocol but I have seen people doing rogue plans eating the 0% Greek yogurt instead of the fat-free cottage cheese that Someons recommended and doing fine. I say give it a try and see! I found I did ok with grapefruit, strawberries and apples, although I DID have to watch the portion size on the apples. Anything over 200g was iffy for me. Good luck! This really DOES work! (You can check out my photos for R1 and R2 in the 200/250+ pounds thread if you want to "see". )

Great post shelby! I have a couple of questions. Just curious.....Why do you wish you had added grissini in the first round? What are you doing or going to be doing for maintenance for life?
