How to vacation on P3?

Has anyone gone on vacation during any of the phases and been successful?

We're off to Italy and Spain this Thursday and I'll be on P3. This is not so much of a problem for me as I've had a low carb lifestyle for many, many years now. The only problem will be desserts, which I will keep trying to avoid w/all my might.

Any tips?

Umm, no idea how you can do Spain / Italy on P3.

I'm just going to Atlanta for the weekend (in Aug) for some Braves games and I'm trying to figure P3 for that weekend.

Good luck, though!

WOE: Atkins to HCG
Wow, that may be tough. I'm going to California in June and I'm already freaking out about P3 then. Maybe if you just limit yourself to a few really good desserts while on vacation. I mean NOT everything will even taste good. I would do some extra activities (exercise) while on vaca, to counter-act those desserts that's for sure! Remember you are on a vacation that is a once in a lifetime trip so definately enjoy yourself, your surroundings, and some of the food.

When I lived in England and traveled in Europe a lot on Atkins, I often ordered the cheese plate for dessert or got fresh fruit (sometimes with clotted, whipped or heavy cream ), which is allowable on P3. If you have that with a nice after dinner drink (champagne, scotch, port), it can make a very nice dessert. Plus I feel very sophisticated ordering the cheese tray!

That is true! I love your ideas. I was thinking about making a large sheet of mug cake, freezing it and then taking it in my suitcase so that I can pop it into the freezer on my trip LOL. I think that was a bit much. I'm not sure I'll have time to help.

I have my alcohol planned. Just clear vodka and diet or soda water. I don't drink a lot, either. And I checked the carbs on beers. Miller lite has the lowest and I'll try to find that. Bud light is the highest (to my shock)

Thanks for the reminder! I do agree with you that NOT all desserts are going to taste good, so I wouldn't want to waste it on an okay dessert. I'll go harder in the gym on the day that I have a dessert or something extra.

I've been so pumped and dedicated that I won't let this go even on vacay. I'm even taking my scale b/c believe it or not, I WILL do a steak day if I go over 2lbs.

Sometimes also if I have a very rich meal, I don't always want dessert. Like meat with cheese or cream sauce.

On the scale thing--I went on a cruise and considered myself lucky to have come back only 2 lbs above LDW. Since then I have ordered a travel sized scale. Just got it yesterday--it weighs about a half pound and I'll be taking it with me on my next trips! lol

Uh, Yeah, me too - took my scale to Europe and didn't gain anything - left it at home on a cruise and gained 8 flippppppin' pounds! But the downside is good luck finding a good steak in Europe! Good Golly Miss Molly! Maybe that was just where I was at.... and remember almost any good HUGE chunk of protein will do in a pinch. Even a bunch of eggs.

Sorry for the threadjack!! But where did you get that scale? I've never heard of a travel scale---but always thought it would be cool --or if one of those kitchen digital scales went up to 180lbs or something!! It nearly killed me last Summer on vaca not being able to weigh!! Thanks!

Thanks so much!!! I will keep that in mind. Huge chunk of protein! I'll make it as delicious as possible so I don't feel like I'm missing anything.

My husband has a huge (every day) sweet tooth and it's going to be hard fighting it every night, but it's all worth it. Every single pair of shorts, jeans, pants I own are HUGE. Insane.

AND that hello kitty scale is genius!! I will buy one too for my trip to Vegas in August. Amazing. This time, I have to carry the ol' big bertha scale with me, but believe me, it's going in the suit case.

You're really going to come to Italy and not eat pasta or pizza? One thing that works for me is to eat the heavier (carby) meal earlier in the day and stick to mozarella and tomatoes/light food for dinner. I'd be shocked if you found Miller Lite, but wine is cheap and plentiful. Add some water to each glass to lower the sugar/calories.

OK, that's so darned cute -- but is it reliable?

I'm looking at another one on amazon that is 8"x11" -- bigger, but gets great reviews for being reliable and lots of reviewers said they bought it as a travel scale. But, if yours is really accurate, then I'd definitely go for it because it's so portable.

I've only had it two days but it seems to be consistently 1.2 pounds below my regular scale (Weight Watchers). As long as I have a gauge of where I am in relation to LDW, that's all I need.

It's kind of weird to stand on but then I have big feet...

exactly -- as long as it's consistent, you can figure out where you are. It's those scales that vary up and down that are totally useless.

I had a little starch in Europe but I wasn't in Italy. I had my 1/2 portion for lunch and then had protein and salad for dinner. With all the walking we did, 6+ hours a day, I didn't gain. But the OP is on P3, which is no starch, no sugar.

I get that but it's kind of unrealistic to go to Italy and not eat pasta or pizza.
