Talapia fish

I am thinking of using talapia. I know it is not on the approved food list though.

Any thoughts on this on the protocal?

I have tilapia fillets almost every single day and LOVE it! I believe it is on the allowed list? I broil mine with spices and half a lemon juice.

It's not on my plans list. Supposedly on Simeons list of approved foods.

It seems like it should be fine but I hate to screw things up by eating it if I shouldn't.

Simeon's "Pounds and Inches" says: "100 grams fresh white fish." But no: "Salmon, eel, tuna, herring, dried or pickled fish are not allowed."

I lost 28 pounds in my first round, and I ate broiled tilapia for dinner every day. This round I will be having tilapia, again. Hope this helps.

No reason not to eat tilapia. It's not specifically listed in the allowed foods, but there would be no reason to. If it's not one of the types of fish to avoid, it's fine.

What I like about tilapia is that you can buy it in a bag of individually packaged frozen fillets that are naturally about 100 grams each (because the normal size of the fish). I got mine at Walmart, but probably available lots of other places also. It's pretty cheap too - another plus

This does help alot. It eases my mind about it not being listed.

I am currently eating "flounder" from Walmart. It is not like the typical flounder that stores usually sell. It is the type that falls apart and gets a bit mushy while cooking. I think only Walmart sells that particular type. I'm sure it is because it is the type not normally eaten by people, used more in dog or horse food. It is edible but kind of not appetizing.

So I am going to try the tilapia.

What kind of taste does it have and how do you cook it so it doesn't smell up the whole house my husband doesn't like the smell of fish so I haven't eaten any.

It doesn't taste "bad." (The tilapia) I like salmon better, but that is not allowed on protocol. It's funny, but I kinda' look forward to it...after having the chicken....which gets difficult to even look at...let alone swallow...after a while (atleast for me).

I broil mine. Once on the pan, I use sea salt and pepper, and squeeze lemon on it. Then, when I turn it, do the same thing with the seasonings and lemon. It doesn't take too long under the broiler. In fact, make sure that it doesn't get over cooked, and it will be much more moist. It's really good served up with some asparagus, and strawberries for dessert.

Tilapia is a mild fish - and not too smelly As Lost and Found mentions in her post, don't overcook it or it will dry out and fall apart. Broil or grill only about 2-3 min. on both sides (broiling works best for me).

If you have a "Super Wal-Mart" where you are at, it's over in the frozen seafood area.

I need a change too. Think that I will try out the shrimp, and see what that does to me. BUT...I have enjoyed my chicken alot more, now that I boiled it in broth for the cooking method. I was eating it only broiled, or grilled. Since it has been winter, that means that it has been broiled. After a while it's like having to "forcefully" swallow...it's so dry. This diet has ruined broiled chicken for me. Although, maybe, with the skin on...it wouldn't be so dry.

Good to know we do have a Super Walmart, I will have to get lemons as well. What veggies are best with fish?

On P2, I steam it. When not on P2, ....I love it basted with olive oil and either grilled, or broiled. Or floating in butter with crumbled bacon, and parm cheese.

Yes, asparagus and fish go together great by the way. To me, it goes with anything - love it! My favorite veggie on this diet.

I love tilapia and asparagus. These are two things that I refused to try before beginning protocol and now they're two of my favorite foods. I eat both about every other day. I only eat the chicken maybe 5 times a week. I get really tired of it. Especially since the first two rounds I did I ate only chicken and then one serving of beef every other day. BORING!

I Believe all "white meat" fish are allowed. I also eat Talapia and it is delicious. I put mine in FF low sodium chicken broth and boil it for about 5-7 minutes and use it as a soup. I season it quite a bit and it comes out great. Good Luck

If you season it well it tastes awesome. It is not an overwhelming fish. My first love is Salmon steaks however, the talapia is doing fine. I also eat whitting. I believe this is also a fresh white fish. I would rather have fish than chicken. Chicken breast for any length in time is difficult for me. The protocol also lists, shrimp, lobster and crab. Nice choices.....

Actually I only eat fish and chicken. Tilapia will be a nice change from the so called flounder I was eating.
