new to Low Carb Friends, HCG/Atkins question

I am R2P3D14, I am possibly looking into doing Phase 2 of Atkins to lose about 10-15 pounds more at a slower timetable than the HCG. Has anyone done this and not done the induction phase of Atkins and gone right into Phase 2? Any suggestions or advice? Thank you very much.

I'd love to answer, but I'm not someone who really understands Atkins very well. However, if you're stable on P3, and if you're following Simeons protocol, your goal is not to lose more weight, it's to stabilize and set that setpoint REALLY good. Then you do P4 and then go back to P2 to lose again. Dr. Simeons says if you lose more without the hcg you lose at the expense of normal or structural fat, not the abnormal fat you want to lose.

BUT WELCOME! And I LOVE MONTANA! I was born there.

I am assuming you mean the OWL phase of Atkins? It is very similar to p3 in terms of diet choices. Most of us stabilize in p3 eating this way -- and as C'Marie said, the goal of p3 and p4 are to stabilize, not continue to lose. I actually suspect that you wouldn't lose much doing Atkins at this point, but who knows.

I have done both Atkins and now hcg, and I have to say that I honestly prefer hcg hands-down for weight loss. I plan to remain reasonably low-carb even in maintenance, but hopefully add in some good carbs.

If you are wanting to lose more slowly, have you considered doing a modified p2, with higher calories and more protein? Is there a particular reason that you'd rather not do another round of hcg?

Hi terkatz, and welcome.

A couple reasons against your idea:
1) you have to be firmly in ketosis for Atkins to work well. That means doing 2 weeks of induction for most folks.
2) Dr Atkins warned that subsequent attempts at doing his plan may be much less successful. This was true for me. I don't think I'd botch my one best shot at it by doing it as you suggest.

That being said, you could look at other low carb plans. South Beach is a little more flexible. Protein Power maybe.

If you do want to do Atkins with Induction, it is so easy, and two weeks would be plenty of time to stay on it before moving up the ladder and adding foods. Many of us can do it in our sleep, so just holler if you want help with an induction meal plan.

Thanks for the welcome and replies. After doing two rounds, the second round being much more difficult and not as productive, I figure a body break may be needed. I am satisfied with my current weight, but another 15 pound loss would be great. If by Oct-Nov 2011, I have not managed to lose anymore weight, I will do the HCG protocol again. I will check out the South Beach but am mainly looking for a maintenance program that for me is actually doable..such as low carb/low sugar, while losing a few more pounds slowly. Atkins OWL stage seemed just what I was looking for but I do not want to do induction, guess I am enjoying P3 too much to go back to such restriction.
I also said I was D14 but actually I am D21, so I am headed into P4.
Interesting about the modified P2 minimonkey speaks of, is there a thread on here that shows the protocol for that? That would be something to think about also. Again thanks for all the asssistance.
C'Marie...you would have not loved Montana so much this past week, -25 temps with wind chills! Headed to the 30's and even 40's this week

I understand better now, I think. P3 is a lot like atkins induction, you know, except you can have a few fruits on P3. I don't think there's anything wrong with atkins OWL eating for long-term.... not a big believer in induction for a long time, but I was on OWL for a very long stretch. Maybe induction plus the foods you love from P3 (berries and melon a little looser with the veggies choices, maybe) for two weeks, and then move up the OWL ladder. What other foods would you miss if you did induction?
