Define 'extra' protein in calories
I have been eating either an extra 50 or 100 grams of protein every day that I exercise and as a result some days I nearly eat 800 calories. I am wondering how much you guys eat when you say extra......

For me, 'extra' is one additional "meal", which in my case is a protein shake after my morning workout. Typically, that shake is nutritionally about 165 calories, 7 grams of carbs, and 31 grams of protein.
According to my excel spreadsheet, last week I averaged 568 calories per day, and 88 grams of protein per day (nutritionally). One 100g (weight) serving typically yields about 20-30g protein nutritionally, depending on the source. To put it another way, hubby has an extra 100g (weight) serving of protein for breakfast (a turkey burger patty), and nutritionally that gives him 25g of protein. One more thing: 1g of protein (nutritionally) is equal to 4 calories. 1g carb = 4 calories, and 1g fat = 9 calories. So, using hubby's example, that 25g of nutritional protein is equal to 100 calories. The burger patty also has 5g of fat, so that's another 45 calories. The actual caloric content of the patty is 160, so there's another 15 calories of non-nutritional content (fiber, ash, vitamins/minerals, negligible amounts of carbs, etc). IMHO, the use of 'protein' to describe the meal content leads to much confusion, when discussing nutritional content. We should really just say a 100g serving of meat/fish, which yields 20-30g protein.

Way too much time on my hands!
|
I only did it a couple times.
I chose the leanest proteins (fish, shrimp, chicken). I chose strawberries and 1/2 grapefruit for fruits. I never went over 550. (330-360 protein, 100 fruit, 50-60 veg, skip one or both melbas, 20 cal for coffee, lemon, etc). Then again, I'm short so I'd need less of a caloric boost than you normal-sized people. |

AHA Mousie Thank You for kicking those digits, I needed that kind of breakdown because I was going nuts trying to figure this out!
Everyone's saying 'extra' and i'm trying to stay close to 500 but when I workout I won't make it without a whole serving or at least half of some kind of dead animal (Ginja can't eat cottage cheese because it looks like someone else already ate it) Emel I wonder how much difference it makes tbh I average according to ****** about 560 calories a day. I also have discovered I have an addiction to the P2 chili. That stuff is dangerously good. Anyway when I hit 800 calories I almost have a fit until I slap myself back to the reality that that's not even a portion of what I used to consume daily. OH and I AM ONLY 5'2 in shoes! |

Pfft. "normal sized people"
I'm 5' 4.5" and yes, I lay fierce claim to that half inch!!! And you're welcome, Ginga. I told you I'm a nerd! And I'm also a geek, which makes for a pretty dangerous combination, LOL. |
