More protein?
Hey! This is my 2nd round but my first time posting about HCG here. First, my question then a little bit about me.
Question: could I add another Jay Robb shake? It has 110 calories, 1 g of carbs, and 25 grams of protein. The reason I want to do it isn't because of hunger. I am worried that I will lose my hair. After the first round I lost a lot of hair. So much that when it came back in it looked like I had a slight mo-hawk. My DR thought it was because I wasn't getting enough protein. So, what are your thoughts? Should I give up the breadsticks to help balance the calories? I don't want to lose my fruit servings and I know that vegetables are vital so the only thing I am willing to give up is the breadsticks. My story: last Easter my husband and I started the HCG diet. We both lost near 30 pounds in the 43 day cycle. I have kept all of mine off until December. I gained 12 pounds and was having a hard time getting focused. Prior to that I was maintaining but I was trying to lose. I was eating clean and even trained for, and ran, my first 5K. So, even before the December gain I was considering doing another round of HCG to get the rest of my extra weight off. After this cycle [after P3] I am going to go directly into the Crack the Code diet {this is carb cycling for those who aren't familiar with the diet}. After my first round I didn't have a plan. I feel better about this round knowing how I am going to live my life and keep the weight off. I should be at goal or close to it after this round so I just need to learn to maintain. My husband gained all of his weight back. It isn't a huge shock given that I don't feel he really learned anything the first round. I am sure many of us learned that we were night-time eaters or when we ate when we weren't hungry, etc.. I think those who keep the weight off do some soul searching and try to figure out why they eat and how to kick the habit or eating when we aren't hungry. My husband complained, whined, and even got angry. He would go to bed to quit thinking about food. Well, because you can't go to sleep every time you feel out of control one could assume this isn't a good solution (read sarcasm). This time his attitude seems better. I feel like he understands that he needs to change his habits and not just follow a diet. I plan on having him transition into the Crack the Code diet also. I think the structure is good and being able to cycle the carbs might work for him. I am open to all of your thoughts. the most pressing thing is the hair loss. Maybe I could use biotin and continue with HGC as written and not add the extra shake and 25 grams of protein. Last edited by Ginaxoxo; 01-20-2011 at 10:53 AM.. |

I would definitely suggest biotin.. and MSM is also supposed to help with hair growth. Losing hair is NO FUN! I have decided to skip the fruit for the most part, and eat more protein... most people seem to do well with that.
Personally, I'd rather lose a bit slower, and still have my hair, than risk being thin and balding! |

I ordered the biotin and will take it to try to keep from losing my hair again. I have to think about skipping fruit to add the protein. If I were confident the biotin would keep me from losing hair I would just continue the diet as written. I am not sure what to do. I will probably just use biotin and hope that is enough.

Are you training at the moment for a marathon? If so, adding a Jay Robb shake probably would not be a bad thing. I am not an expert by any means, but do have 4 rounds of cycling (I am in R5P2 now) under my belt. This round I have started back working out 4 days/week, 45 minutes of treadmill and every other day adding weightlifting, and have found that I am slightly more hungry due to burning extra calories. I burn an average of 250-300 extra calories on work-out days and you probably do, too. I usually have half of an Atkins RTD shake about a half hour before exercising, and it really helps me with hunger issues (and the Atkins shakes are 160 calories/9 carbs for a whole shake, I use them only for convenience at work, when at home I use Jay Robb). I would say that the extra 110 calories from a Jay Robb shakes, especially the extra protein, would not be a bad thing for you, especially if it keeps you on plan due to training. I would, however, give up the breadsticks and add the shake if you are training.
And, I would also highly recommend using Biotin consistently if you are having hair loss with HCG. Good Luck, it sounds like you

Mary, Dr. S didn't say NOT to exercise, he just said don't start something new when starting the protocol. He did say that if you were already exercising, that you could continue. And of course it makes more sense to add in extra calories, especially protein, if you're exercising during the round, because you need the protein to build new muscle tissue. It would be self-defeating to ask your body to tear down some muscle or organ tissue for the sake of building new muscle tissue elsewhere merely because you didn't have enough incoming nutrition to meet the extra need.
