Going off protocol

Tomorrow night I have a HUGE family christmas party, it's basically the event of the year. I know I will be having some wine and maybe 1 or 2 small things off plan. There will be a meat and veggie tray so I'm hoping to stick to that mostly. NO fudge! Anyways. I knew I was going to do this when I started but I'm wondering others experiences when/if they've gone off for a day. How long did it take you to get back to your previous weight? Did you find it hard to get right back on plan the next day? Any tips to keep my evening in control?

TIA!

I went off protocol for one meal for my granddaughter's birthday, I actually lost weight the next day but I sure didn't feel good.

And after that did you continue to see your normal losses?

What do you mean you didn't feel good? Like physically?

I wouldn't recommend it. I went off protocol for ONE meal (and didn't eat a lot- but ate carbs) and I have had trouble ever since. I am in P3. I have been craving sweets, carbs, and suffering with headaches. The meal was Sunday, and I have had two correction days since then. I have to do another one today. Or something...as I am five pounds over my LDW. NOT WORTH IT!!!

I know it isn't reccomended but I've been planning this for ages. I'm going to keep it mild for sure, and I will try my best to stay away from sugars and starches!

It's my dad's 60th birthday party/Christmas party tonight. There will be about 25 of my dad's friends from his church here. They are all bringing food. I am going to be dodging some major food bullets tonight. I still have 4 VLCD left.

The hardest part will be explaining why I can't eat everyone's food. I think my strategy will be to drink tea during the party so my hands look busy as much as possible.

I don't think there will be alcohol.

It will be awkward to eat a totally separate dinner, but I don't care.

for every glass of wine, drink a glass of water in between. I have done that for years to try and mitigate.

And you said you would do your best with meat/veggies so that is what you should try and do.

All the sweets, processed foods, etc, etc that are there will be there next year also.

Be thoughtful, mindful and enjoy

Lets hope there is so much fun, activity going on, no one will notice. I had that happen a few times. I attended a church brunch and the carbs were every where. I just said I all ready ate (which I did) and wasn't hungry. Then asked how they were doin! And proceeded to drink my tea. lol

Have fun TMB!!

Thanks guys.

I think my plan is a little wine (yes, TONS of water too!) and then the meat and veggies. I'm Going to stay away from anything with sugar!

I'm also planning on having an apple and 1 protein meal before so hopefully I won't be hungry going there

Twice a month I go to a mom's meeting. The moms get together, the kids have classes (free childcare!!!) and there is always food around. The other moms in my group that I sit with are used to me not eating a bite when we are there!! Most of the time because I happen to be P2. The last meeting when I did eat because I was in P3, I took the little weiners out of the croissants and one of the mom's mentioned "oh are you celiac?" I guess one of her friends is dealing with that. But that is the new buzzword these days. I told her the truth in that "I don't do carbs. My doc is trying to determine if I have it." My doc actually DOES think I have something going on and she wants me to go gluten free so I did not lie. Did not do so well at yesterday's meeting, but I am on P4. So a little bit of sugar (OMG Oreo balls and cake balls drowning in chocolate is just too hard to resist for me!!) at a Christmas gathering once in a while will not derail me. Back on plan today!!! Just do the best you can and don't beat yourself up if you do endulge. Biz has a saying and I am getting the hang of it now. She says, "whatever happens you can correct!" Enjoy yourself and have fun!!!

I made those oreo balls last night...but they are not for me. They are for my dad's 60th party tonight. I am currently making a chocolate layer cake with salted caramel frosting.

Not going to eat any.

I too baked during my first round and didn't even so much as lick the bowl. Sad to say that as I got further along in my rounds I have caved in on an occasion or 2 It gets weary on you after a while. But big kudos to you on holding strong. Our new drink at Starbucks is the Salted Caramel Hot chocolate. It is mighty tasty. I know I would not have stayed strong on what you made. My 2 favorites--salted caramel and oreo balls. I am going to faint now LOL. Actually, I probably should eat my lunch instead.

No bowl licking here either, although I did taste the tiniest fraction of frosting to make sure it tasted okay. It's a recipe I have never made before. It was like a tic tac sized amount, so not a problem. It was good.

When I made those brownie mini muffins, I asked my kids how they tasted. I didn't likc the bowl on that one. I have made them tons of times before and know how they taste. I told my eldest that my DD said they were hard. He said, "why don't you try one?" I told him it was because "I can't have it!" That lasted only 2 days!!! LOL. I had to try at least one to see if they were not that good. I was giving them away and wanted to make sure they indeed were good. I was so curious to see why my DD would say they were hard, when they tasted just fine. Now I know not to ask her opinion of my food!!!

Good job!! That is the way to do it. My first round I didn't veer off plan at all, but then again I had no job and no commitments outside the home. I cannot imagine doing it while working full time and trying to exercise. Even now while I am working, it is only "very much part time". I wanted the most bang for my buck so to speak back then. If I was going to do it all over again, that is the way to go...be 100% intentional. But I have learned to relax a little bit too. I mean we each have our own lives to live and things happen. You just have to roll with it sometimes. You will definitely make that goal!!

I feel the same way. I planned on starting hcg knowing there would be this party tomorrow, and then Christmas. I know it will slow things down but I'm ok with that as long as I keep losing steadily! All I'm aiming for is 2 pounds a week, anything more is icing on the cake for me

eTA: dawn did you find things slowed down the smaller you got or did you lose pretty steady the whole time?

I hit one snag on each round when I got to 116. I would be sitting there for about 5-6 days and then the apple day worked for getting me past it. And didn't have any trouble after that. I even continued to lose from there on out. I was quite surprised and thought I would stop when my body would quit losing. Once I hit 113, I thought enough was enough!!!

Okay, I finalized my game plan for tonight. I'm going to eat a huge bowl of spinach salad with shrimp. I used a tbsp of low fat cottage cheese to make a dressing. So I will be a smidge above my protein levels, but I don't care. I'm going to chop up apple and toss it in and have melba croutons on top.

It looks like a lot of food, so I won't get any funny looks. :P

I think for the oreo balls you combine cream cheese, oreos and sugar? Then roll then in a chocolate ganache and let them chill. So good!!!!

There is a huge thread in the PG about them...

http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/be...kie-balls.html

I think I will also have a cup of coffee (with a 2 tbsp of half and half) in the evening to kill some cravings. Also, I'm not going to have the melba with the salad...and I've eliminated one fruit from the day. I plugged it in to ******, if I go that route I'm still in the 500 calorie range. Fat grams a little higher, but carb grams lower. I'm willing to take the risk for one day. Coffee really helps me stay away from sweets.
