Insomnia/Benadryl

Anybody take benadryl to help them sleep? I take it every night but am wondering if it is going to cause a problem or a stall. I am even more wide awake than usual and can tell sleep is not going to come easy tonight. I already took two benadryl and now I am wondering if that was a bad idea.

It DOES suck not being able to sleep. And I just found this in case anyone is interested:

You can take prescriptions &/or allergy meds during protocol, but, again, it is not optimum. It may interfere some with your progress, but you will still have more success with this regimen than any other you have tried, IMHO. You also want to keep in mind that many supplements
contain fillers which add calories and carbs to your daily intake.

There are plenty of folks who have stayed on all their meds & vites and done okay. They usually do find that their weight release rate isn't quite as high as some other people's, and many of them have found that they have been able to go off of their meds during protocol because their bodies go through such a great cleansing that they have no more need for them. You will be, hopefully, eating a very clean, organic menu that will detox & heal your body on many levels.

I would advise against taking Benadryl or any anti-histamine on a regular basis to sleep. It can make your sinus get infected (it happened to me). I WOULD advise going to your doctor and asking about Trazadone. It is a non-habit forming anti-depressant that is pretty much only prescribed to help people get to sleep. It comes in generic, so it would be cheaper than Benadryl.

I'm not a doctor...but I have taken both of these drugs and I MUCH prefer the second!

I'm so glad you asked this! I'm having LASIK tomorrow (yikes!!!) and in supposed to sleep all afternoon and night so, I'll be taking benedryl. Good to know it's ok!

Hopefully the big Valium they're going to give me before the procedure is ok too!

I am too! But, my husband fully funded our medical savings plan so, if I don't do it by the end of the year, we lose a whole lot of money

Thank you for the well wishes! I've been up since 3am. Wish I could get that Valium right now!

URGH .. the sleep thing, every night on P2 for me it's a struggle to go to sleep. I will every once in a while take a OTC night time med but the other poster is right about setting ourselves up for an infection!!! When I took a 9 day P3 break I didn't have a problem falling asleep .. is it the hcg or the "night before Christmas" excitement!>!>!

I have trouble getting to sleep at night and then I wake up about 4 or 5 times during the night then I usually wake up a hour or two before I have to get up and can't get back to sleep.

It is annoying but I didn't want to start taking anything so I will see how my sleep changes once I am in P3.

I have used a lot of benedryl, especially as my allergies are killer the last 4 or 5 months.

Also do melatonin sometimes, but don't really need any help falling asleep. I do need help staying asleep, as I often wake up at 4 or 5 am while on P2. I don't think it's terribly uncommon...there's a certain stress to the body when it's on such vlcd. I think we're primed to wake up early and go forage. That's my theory.

Plus I'm already under enormous loads of stress, as DH has been out of work for a full year now. Benefits are about to run out. Where's the stressed and freaking out smilie?

I use melatonin and it works great for me. Benadryl leaves me groggy the next morning.

I have been trying some nighttime tea at bedtime. Someone mentioned on another site about taking chamomille tea before bed and it really helped her sleep and sleep through the night. I went out and bought Nighty Night by Traditional Medicinals. It is just an herbal blend with the chamomille in it. I have been sleeping really well when I take it. I follow the directions on the box. I do prefer "naturals" over the medicines traditionally recommended for things, so this serves its purpose for me!

Benedryl leaves me with a groggy hangover the next day and also causes me to feel puffy and my joints achy. This doesn't mean I don't take it if I need it, but I try to limit it.

I have issues with melatonin. It makes me tired, but I can never seem to get into deep sleep, so I end up having a restless night.

I love chamomile, but it tends to give me a headache (I assume it's an allergy for me). Something that works for me is Valerian. I buy it in bulk and literally only have to open the bag and sniff it and it works. It smells like dirt, but hey, if it gets the job done, I can deal with the smell.

Lavender is also supposed to be very soothing and relaxing, so a drop of essential oil on your pillow could help.

Something else I do is play Scrabble on my phone after I get in bed. I love Scrabble and I don't know why it works, but when I play after crawling in bed, I end up too tired to finish a game.
