ok your menus look less boring than mine! HOWEVER, I find I lose so much better on a boring menu. I could actually eat P2 chili every day , for every meal and I would be happy......

Today so far
Coffee with cream
cucumber/ half gfruit/chicken tenders
( I was hungry..)

later today sometime:
P2 CHILI!!!.......

A fruit which I don't have yet along with my hot tea to close my day. If I can get back into the habit of not eating after my tea and fruit, I lose so much better!!..

"Over the past 2 years I have made many changes and enhancements to our diet program. I now call my diet – The OWL Diet -to distinguish it from the Original Hcg Diet that is used elsewhere. OWL stands for Omaha Weight Loss.

Why did I make these changes? Two overall reasons - Safety (keeping you healthy) and Efficacy (getting to your weight loss goal). I was not comfortable with the 500 calories per day on the Original Hcg Diet. The risk was too much acidosis from dieting – and side effects of headaches, dizziness, and low potassium levels. The OWL Diet allows 20-40% more calories per day – at 600-700 calories per day my patients feel better, have better hunger control, and are able to stay on the diet until they reach their weight loss goal. I also emphasize the need to spread those calories out over the day.

I call my calorie allowance of 600-700 calories per day the Low Calorie Diet (LCD for short). You will have enough energy to function at home and work, including mild levels of exercise. And you will still lose weight rapidly – an average of 15-20 pounds per month is shed on the OWL Diet. Although we do see some people lose 30 pounds in 30 days – this is not typical. It may occur in individuals who start at a higher weight (such as 300 pounds).

As you read about the changes I have made, you will see there are more food choices, and fewer rules.

Here are the Key Changes that make the OWL Diet better:

Food Choices and Frozen Foods – The original Hcg Diet was based on a very limited selection of food items that were commonly available in Italy in the 1950′s when Dr. Simeons was in practice. I have added additional food selections in all four categories of meats, vegetables,. fruits and beverages. We have also seen tremendous advancements in frozen foods, which can be safely incorporated into a modern protocol.

Sugar Substitutes – I permit the use of all sugar substitutes that are calorie free. Sugar substitutes are commonly used in soft drinks, iced teas and chewing gum. Use of these sugar-free products represents food behaviors that are often well established by participants before they ever start the OWL Diet. For the purposes of compliance with the OWL Diet, the use of sugar substitutes is permitted. I do point out that, in the long run, I feel we should limit our use of these products.

Caffeine – Caffeine is permitted on the OWL Diet and is often consumed in tea, coffee or soft drinks. My observation is that caffeine can increase, decrease or have no effect on appetite. It varies by the individual. Many participants on the OWL Diet were using caffeine beverages before I see them and do not want to give them up. As a means of helping them succeed on the OWL Diet, I permit the use of caffeine. Stopping caffeine and starting a LCD can trigger problems with headaches in the first week of the program.

Low Calorie Diet (LCD) – As mentioned, I allow a range of 600-700 calories per day. With the LCD modification, patients feel better, and have fewer effects from the acidosis of dieting and are therefore more likely to continue on the diet.

Hcg Immunity – Simeons believed that patients would develop immunity to Hcg. He advised the use of Hcg for only 6 days per week and required intervals of time to be off Hcg before restarting additional cycles. I do not believe that immunity exists for the vast majority of participants. With the OWL Diet, I advise participants to use Hcg daily for steady benefit and consistent results.

Continuous Monthly Cycles – Since we are not concerned about immunity and we now permit a higher intake of calories, I am able to offer monthly cycles of continuous Hcg use. We see an average monthly weight loss of 15 pounds for women and 20 pounds for men. Patients are safely permitted to continue monthly cycles “back to back” until they reach their weight loss goal. The momentum of successful weight loss is continued and patients learn to maintain lifelong behavioral changes towards healthier eating. This leads to permanent weight loss.

Vitamins and Supplements - The OWL Diet is, by its very nature, low in food sources of calcium and supplementation with calcium is needed for most participants. We also discuss the importance of B-Complex and Potassium. Some people also benefit from the addition of fiber, melatonin and B-12 shots.

Creams, Oils and Cosmetics – The use of body creams, oils, lotions and cosmetics do not, in my experience, interfere with weight loss on the OWL Diet. They are permitted and this change from the Simeons Protocol is greatly appreciated!

Menses – When women are menstruating, their hunger is frequently increased. I can find no logical explanation to withhold Hcg based on the menstrual cycle of women. Daily use of Hcg is encouraged, including during the menstrual period.

Fat is Fat - Dr. Simeons talked about “three kinds of fat”, and theorized that during dieting the body chooses certain fats to burn first. I do not follow that logic and my observation is that all fat stores are used as people are on the OWL program.

No Speculation about how Hcg works – Dr. Simeons had theories about how low dose Hcg works. Since they remain unproven theories, I do not speculate on the mode of action of Hcg. What is more important to me is our observation that Hcg does appear to help people lose weight on the OWL Diet.

No more Apple Days or Steak Days – I define a weight loss plateau as “no weight loss for a full two weeks despite complete adherence to the program”. Dr. Simeons attempted to break plateaus with either an “apple day” or a “steak day”. I have attempted to use these ideas with patients, and found them to be ineffective, misleading and counterintuitive. The best advice that I can offer is to “Stay committed and look at the total accumulated weight loss”. Plateaus cannot continue, due to the sheer arithmetic of following a LCD.

Salt Restriction – Dr. Simeons placed no restriction on the use of salt, but today we know better. The excessive use of salt carries definite health risks. In a healthy individual, I permit the use of salt. If you have hypertension, coronary artery disease or heart failure, salt use should be limited.

Constipation – Constipation is a common challenge that we face with a LCD despite the high fiber content of the vegetables and fruit that you will be consuming. Dr. Simeons did not intervene if patients only had a bowel movement every 3-4 days. My experience has been that constipation of 3-4 days duration leads to retained weight, bloating, fatigue and the risk of hemorrhoids. I prefer to advise the use of fiber to ensure a bowel pattern of once daily to every other day.

Massage – Massage is permitted, as there is no logical reason to withhold use of this very helpful service.

No More Phases – Dr. Simeons referred to “phases” during the original Hcg Diet. I have found this terminology to be confusing. The OWL Diet has 3 parts: fat loading, low-calorie diet and maintenance. "
Interesting... I have so much to catch up on but this caught my eye while browsing through. Just wanted to say and congrats to you all!

You may find that you get a whoosh of hunger on the days you work out - the amount of food I need to knock back the hunger comes to exactly the # of APs I burned.

Hi Sister! I don't know what it is about counting cals. but I just don't want to do it, I'd much rather count points, just seems easier to me Your plan sounds great and obviously working for you! I am excited to try this way with the hcg. I decided I would multiply my allowed pts. x 7 days (126 pts.) and that would be my pts. for the week. So, yesterday I only had 11 pts. and I will just deduct that from my weekly total. That will give me room for days that I will be above my 18 daily pts. I am not using the WAPs either. Does that all make sense? Hopefully the drops will make up for lack of pts. on certain days. The only working out I do is a 20 min. brisk walk during lunch:blush: so I don't add in AP. Keep letting me know how you're doing!!

Happy Tuesday to all , I do read all the posts, it's just hard for me to keep up. Praying for a great release for everyone!

Welcome Donna! I second, I mean third, what Marci and Deb said!
I might add that some of us take various vitamins while doing the VLC. If you feel weak, you might consider that.
Good luck and you will like it here!

Hi j4! I am having a hard time getting in my daily Points during the week - my target is 19, and we are not supposed to go below 18. But I am just not hungry for breakfast, and I don't want to have a big evening snack, either. My lunch today is 5 Points (chicken salad sandwich on a sandwich thin, veggies, and a grapefruit). I haven't changed the way I'm eating, just the quantities are smaller.

It'll be interesting to see how we Point-er Sisters do when we weigh in! My WI is Saturday, and I have a feeling that it's gonna be a good one!

Thanks for the warm welcome back everyone!! You can tell I'm on the west coast...by the time I jump on here, everyone else is halfway through their day!

I dropped 1.6 last night and I'm soooo close to ONEderland! I'm leaving next Monday to go spend a week with my kids in Kansas, and I'd love to get there before I leave, but that may be asking too much.

I totally agree, every person and every body is different. It's not simple math, even though it seems like it should be. It's all about finding what works for your body.

Oops, back to work. Back soon!

Thanks Pati! I have a ton of questions but should go back and research some more before asking. One that comes to my mind right now is about the exercise? Are we NOT supposed to? And if we are not, is it because we will be a bit weak from the low calories or because it messes with the plan? I don't know why I asked really because I am as close to a slug as you can get. I do not have the motivation to exercise!

Great losses everyone! Wow.

As of today, I have lost 11lbs in 11 days so I am happy.

I started doing Leslie Sansone walking workouts last week and enjoyed it so I am going to do her 21 days until Thanksgiving challenge which began yesterday. (21 days really? Eeek!) I am doing it a bit differently from how she states it (apparently I can not refrain from tweaking exercise plans either) and will be doing at least 2 miles every day with Sundays off. I think this will be good for me as I have the tendency to try and do too much too soon with working out and set myself back. This will reign me in a bit for a while.

Again thank you all so much for sharing your stories. It helped me have the courage to try it my way and I am so happy I did.

Just stopping by to check in! Havent been on the scale yet but I'm sticking with my own protocol. Working on getting my water intake to where it needs to be. Trying to stick to my program until around Thanksgiving. Hope everyone is having a great week

Salaunsox2000, here we do 'rogue' P & I meaning we tweak the protocol to work for our own bodies...

Me? I could barely walk let alone exercise on 500 cals. When I went rogue, I reintroduced exercise (jogging/weight lifting). If my cals are higher I can exercise w/o problems.

Right now I am doing a very clean P2 and stopped exercising again. I was going to do yoga yesterday but I had zero energy last night.

So it really depends on YOU!

I do feel compelled to say that P & I states NO INTRODUCING EXERCISE (unless you already are exercising) in P2. You can add it back in P4. You can also exercise in P3 BUT that's what's considered 'stabilizing' phase and many will say not to exercise in that phase.

Again, remember we are the wild bunch and going rogue so you can do what's best for you

Not being able to exercise has always been one of the rules I dislike the most about P&I. Cardio makes me feel energized and sexy . However, I know that if one is restricting cals, they should limit exercise, which is why on the days I work out, I EAT MORE!!

ETA: I usually do HIIT for 20-25 minutes, but today I was just pooped...so I did a brisk walk for 26 mins (mill/elliptical).

This is my first time exercising through my round, so I will let you all know if it has a HUGE impact on my losses or not...it prolly won't, but the cardio does make me feel good!

ETA: I usually do HIIT for 20-25 minutes, but today I was just pooped...so I did a brisk walk for 26 mins (mill/elliptical).

Me 2! I'm totally happy to eat the same thing every single day! Up until January I was waitressing, and I would eat a grilled cheese sandwich with french fries and ranch dressing EVERY NIGHT at work. Hmmm...do you think this explains my weight issues?????

You know what Misty, dinners are the most difficult for me too! Watching DS and DH eating good meals while I eat what's on protocol drives me insane! They try to stay away from me but they can only hide in so many spots before I find them and stare at them while they eat

Seriously, I do stay away while they eat. It's the only thing that works for me or I will cave.
You're right. I shouldn't complain about a loss; I guess I was just hoping for those big first-day-back numbers.

My hubs tries to help out all he can (low self-esteem means low libido for me, so he's all about helping me boost my confidence). He even offers to eat away from me, but I feel even more deprived then because I miss out on "family supper time." I still sit at the dinner table with him and DD, and yes, it's very hard sometimes. On the bright side, he's preparing most of his and DD's dinners while I diet, so at least I get out of that chore, lol. And he tries to choose things that aren't my absolute favorites. When he eats something sweet, however, I definitely leave the room! Last night, I left the living room and got on the computer while he had some Halloween candy.
