If you are going by Simeons, he does not disallow peanuts.

However it is higher carbs than other true nuts. I certainly use it in P3 in moderation.

Peanuts are technically legumes, if I remember correctly - not a nut but a starch. Some people do okay with it (just as some do well with soy) and some don't. YMMV but I'd steer clear of them until P4.

Almond butter is too rich for me. I like it in small doses but it's almost too strong for me in the amounts I like my nut butters. I'm looking forward to trying other nut butters though, I've heard pistachio (once you get over the green color) is pretty good.

I think it's a matter of perspective (and YMMV). Apples have more sugar in them than peanuts have starch in them.

I guess that's why I mostly just do Atkins in P3, cause I don't understand why you can eat the 20 grams of sugar/carb in an apple in P3 but the 6 grams of carbs in peanut butter would be verboten. In fact I don't understand why anyone eats fruit in P3 since he says no sugar or starches.

I do an Atkins/LC P3 as well - the only thing I add is the occasional fruit, and I don't use are the LC tortillas. (which are technically a bread). However I very much enjoy One Minute Muffins on my P3 so the whole deal is certainly a YMMV thing.

Peanuts are a legume, not a nut. Almonds are acceptable, but you may not be able to tolerate them also. Portion control is sometimes a problem with nuts in P3 Tread cautiously!!

Cashews get me all the time--P3 or P4. I have to hold off on those til P4 or else. They are way too starchy for P3. I have heard Biz say on her site that you really should hold off on cheese (to include cream cheese that is baked--like in cream cheese muffins) and nuts of any kind for the first few days of P3. You can have them, but she has seen so many people have so many troubles when they introduce them too soon. And part of that I am sure is the portion control!! LOL. Very easy to over do.

The only fruit I ate in P3 was fresh strawberries, they seemed to work great. Probably because they're so low carb. If I needed a correction day, it was always scrambled eggs and strawberries for lunch and dinner, (sf coffee shake for breakfast). Worked like a charm!

I have seen it this way: Dr Simeons allows for 2 fruits on the 500 calorie plan. Some feel that those fruits he allowed (oranges, strawberries, grapefruits....) should be allowed on P3. I actually on my first P3 allowed just the berries. I ate raspberries and blueberries and the strawberries because they were very much in season and beautiful and cheap!! Wonderful with whipped cream!! After hearing on Biz's site that others allowed more fruit in their P3s I did include more in my R2P3. But only kept to strawberries and grapefruit and if I ate an apple I only ate 1/2 at a time. I didn't gain with the addition of the fruit so I found it refreshing and kept in the fruit. I never did the oranges--in P2 or P3--even though we have them in the house at all times. I think that they are my DHs favorite fruit!!! But they are just too high in sugar for me. To each his own when in P3. We can interpret it as we see it. He did leave the P3 pretty much open to interpretation I believe!!!! I wish he had a better laid out set on instructions for his "what to do after P2"!!!!

Me too!! I love being able to have some fruit. That was the worst part of Atkins.

This is what Dr. Simeon says about P3 on page 38 of Pounds and Inches:

Quote:
For the following 3 weeks all foods allowed except starch and sugar in any form (careful with very sweet fruit).
To me this means, all fruit is allowed, just be careful with the high sugar ones.

I can't find where he says oranges are okay in P2...am I missing it somewhere? All I see mentioned is apples, strawberries, and grapefruit...

And how much veggies can I have? Is there a specific measurement mentioned? (I can't find that either).

Google "dr simeons pounds and inches pdf" to make sure you are reading the correct manuscript. Oranges are on page 23.

Quote:
1. 100 grams of veal, beef, chicken breast, fresh white fish, lobster, crab, or shrimp. All visible fat must be carefully removed before cooking, and the meat must be weighed raw. It must be boiled or grilled without additional fat. Salmon, eel, tuna, herring, dried or pickled fish are not allowed. The chicken must be removed from the bird.
2. One type of vegetable only to be chosen from the following: spinach, chard, chicory, beet-greens, green salad, tomatoes, celery, fennel, onions, red radishes, cucumbers, asparagus, cabbage.
3. One breadstick (grissino) or one Melba toast.
4. An apple or an orange or a handful of strawberries or one-half grapefruit.

There are no exact measurements for veggies, just calculate how many calories you have left for the meal/day and have that many veggies.

Huh. I did what you said and yes, oranges are listed on p. 23. The manuscript I initially downloaded is the one mentioned in the recipes sticky and it does not mention oranges... It says "An apple or a handful of strawberries or one-half grapefruit."

If newbies (like myself) are downloading the version mentioned in the sticky, we're getting the incorrect version.... Uh-oh.

That is very interesting indeed!

I checked several online pdf's of the manuscript and they all have oranges, except for the one in that thread you mentioned (which I didn't even know was there).

Weird how they would be taken out...

no biggie just a transcription error read just a little further down that passage and it says something like "adding an extra orange" or something like that in that same manuscript so that lets you know it was just something like a typo HTH
