Another Exercise Question...

Ok, I get that P & I states that we shouldn't take on new exercise during P2 and in P3 I read (someone made a comment) that they themselves wouldn't workout during stabilization cuz then your body would need it ALL the time!

Anyway, I miss my jogging. I miss my weight lifting! ALOT but I really can't find it in me to do it on such low cals. Anyway, I think I am really OKAY knowing I will always need to exercise. For me I suppose it's more beneficial in the end but most importantly, I want to TONE UP MY BODY.

Here's my question: In P3 (stabilization) I will be doing Atkins style meals (this is how I lost my first 25ish lbs and I love eating this way). That said, I will have enough calories in me to work out again. Can I do so in P3 or is it best to wait to get to P4?

So, can I lift weights/jog in P3 and stabilize or should I just jog in P3 and hold off weight lifting til I get to P4

Your suggestions/comments are sooooooooo appreciated more than you guys can imagine!

OK....you seem to be contradicting yourself!! You say you want to because you realize you will REQUIRE it to stay at your weight in P3. Then asking if it is OK to exercise in P3? I am not sure I understand your question but this is what I have done after every single round of P2--I am currently on my 5th round. I love to work out as well. I do the Firm videos and workout with weights and love my cardio as well. However, I don't have a lot of time, ALL the time to devote to working out. Therefore if I want to be stable AND not count on doing exercise every single day for the rest of my life, I hold off on exercise until P4. What happens if I exercise every day in P3 and then God forbid I break an ankle 2 weeks into P4? Or sometimes I just don't have time due to work constraints along with the kids school schedule--sometimes life gets in the way!! I would gain a ton of weight because I would not be able to work out!! My body would be put into a tail spin. I would not want that to happen to ME.

Sounds like you have your mind made up already, so I won't try to convince you otherwise. Just let us know what you decide and how it works for ya!!

I'm sorry...I don't see where I said I would require it to to stay at my weight in P3?

I actually don't have my mind made up ergo the question/thread....I have my mind made up that I do want to workout? yes. My question related to when it would be best to do so?

Bottom line question was this: So, can I lift weights/jog in P3 and stabilize or should I just jog in P3 and hold off weight lifting til I get to P4

Your reply sounded a bit like you were upset. I'm sorry if I typed something out to anger you.... (maybe i'm just overly sensitive right now - who knows.) *sigh*

Disclaimer: I have problems getting out what I mean to ask (never been one of my positive qualities).

So sorry to have offended you too!! But, I still don't understand........I said No to the exercise---ANY exercise!-- in P3. Sorry to confuse or if my answer was not straightforward!! But we are all different and if you chose to do exercise in P3, you have every right to! Lift weights or jog.

And yes, my replies get to be too lengthy!!! So, in short......do not exercise in P3. Hold off until P4. That is my OPINION, and my OPINION only!

I would be glad when someone who has exercised in P3 jumps in with what has worked for them!!

I would hold off on exercising in P3, personally. In P3 you're resetting your hypothalamus and so you don't want to reset it as needing to exercise to maintain. So, I'd wait til P4 to do any of it.

I probably just said exactly what Dawn said, didn't I?

WOE: one day at a time!! LC!
Start Date: July 14, 2003 - every day!!
I did my Zumba class last week, on VLC, and was ok. Not as peppy as usual, but I did fine. I plan to do it again tomorrow. I am cutting back on the other exercise until later. I have been doing it for many months now, and since Dr. S said to keep doing what you already were, I did, more or less.

Haven't really thought much about P3 It does make sense that to stablize the caloric burn would need to be consistent with your maintenance burn. I plan to exercise the rest of my life, it's what's helped me keep off most of the 100lbs I lost 7 years ago on Atkins, and I live LC in general. I'm not as worried about maintenance, since I think I've been doing it for many years now. YMMV (your mileage may vary).

Dawn's been at this a while, and has a lot of knowledge, both experiential and from reading others experiences. I would definitely give weight to her opinion

When do you plan to move to P3? I just figured it will be 9/27 for me not that I'm looking forward to it or anything

I plan to exercise in p3.

My opinion (unsubstantiated) is that there are 2 things you need to take into consideration when adding exercise during p3...

*water weight gain from muscles that are swollen
*caloric intake

First, you will gain some water weight if you exercise enough to cause microtears in your muscle. Depending on your physiology, this may put you over the 2lb limit during stabilization (I know when I do a strenuous full body workout I can count on a 2 to 3 lb temporary gain for a couple days). It's up to you to decide if you want to do a correction day or just 'wait it out', assuming you know it's due to exertion. Second, you want to make sure your calorie intake is enough to fuel your workouts but not enough to cause a gain... obvious I know, hehe.

I don't understand this idea that 'if you exercise during p3 your body will expect you to exercise every day for the rest of your life to maintain'. I guess I was under the impression that the purpose of stabilizing was to keep your weight stable for 3 weeks... whether or not by exercise or increased/decreased caloric intake.

You state that you miss your jogging and your weight lifting. If these are things you have been doing all along, it will be fine to continue. The Protocol states not to start 'new' exercise during P2 and P3. I had been doing cardio and weights prior to starting P2 and continued to do so through P2 and P3 with no hindrance to my weight loss even when I missed 2 weeks of gym time due to out of town travel.

Thanks for the replies...

Julie, my 21 days of VLCs is over 9/28. Then add the 2 VLD w/o dosing brings me to my first P3 day on 10/1.

(even tho' I felt a teeny bit like a kid being yelled at ) I do appreciate Dawn's replies and take everything she says to heart since she is a pro Anyway, I decided to slug around and not exercise until I get passed P3. I will probably do yoga with my sister here and there but that's for relaxation purposes. Once I am done with P3, I will definitely go on to do P4 (as I had planned) and start back to my workouts.

(sorry if this all doesn't make sense! as previously mentioned, communication is so not my thing! :blush

I have continued my "light" exercise throughout P2 and P3. I think it's great at helping you retain lean muscle mass. I have not done lengthy aerobic exercise so can't comment on that. Basically I've done stuff that I enjoyed or was short & sweet.

I hear ya. I've experienced that myself . I'm done VLC on the 26th and looking forward to P3 on the 27th. Unless I'm losing well in week 3, which I've read isn't likely, then I may add some more losing time. We'll see. I'd love to go as low as I can while on this round. I'm not sure I want to do another round later, but I am beginning to think I can get lower than I originally thought I could. So, maybe.

I missed my Zumba class today , if that helps !

I was doing C25k in P2, but for various reasons I've slowed down to just walking in P3. On weekends we camp I get at least 10 miles of hiking in, otherwise it is a dog walk sort of situation.
