P3 question
A friend of mine asked me how on earth we can NOT lose weight in P3 if it is essentially low-carbing. I know we are supposed to be stabilizing and therefore not losing during P3. Can someone please 'splain it to us? TIA

Whew! At least we're not alone! I hope someone knows, though. It's really baffling.

Maybe by eating loads of calories compared with how we have been eating?

Well, you will be eating a lot of calories in the form of good fat and you figure out as you go along how much you need to eat to maintain your current weight. If you don't, then your body will not reset to the current weight as its set point.
You *will* gain weight if you overeat low carb....and I maintained (read: stall!!) for 8 months on low carb...so it can happen. To clarify re: what we ate in P2 being so little. YES, we took in only 500 calories a day, but our body was releasing abnormal fat to use as fuel to keep it going. Whatever our needs were...our body made up the difference from our fat stores (you could have been burning 3000 cals of fat!). Make sense? I am looking forward to P3, but nervous that I won't maintain this loss. Again...its a learning process for me...afterall, I went 8 months of NO LOSS and being good most of the time. I think the stabilizing is part of the hypothalamus resetting. All I know is that it was pretty much effortless for me to stabilize no matter how much I ate. And I really didn't eat that much fat/meat like I do when low carbing - I overate fruit. I ate tons of berries and melon. But I don't know. It is different from classic low carbing because of the fruit thing. I ate a lot of fruit carbs!

Thanks for the input. So is it because we are likely taking in more cals than we did while low-carbing?
Will we be in ketosis on P3? |

I guess it depends on how many carbs you are taking in with your fruits and veggies and nuts, etc. and what your body's level of carb intake is to stay in ketosis. I am still in ketosis during P2 I know that.

To answer your initial question, no you shouldn't lose much weight during P3 at all. Some people will stablize below the 2 pound limit, others at LDW or above. After my last disastrous round, I finally stablized 15 lbs above LDW. There is some debate on what to add during P3, some say add fats, some say add protein. I always add protein to help me stablize. HTH! |

Gosh...what happened that caused you to stabilize so far above your LDW? |
