I've been drinking milk and eating milk products just fine but I think it depends on the person. Taking probiotics and enzymes will definitely help ease the transition - I think I had more issues with the fibre than the fats even though I ate liberally of both. As long as you aren't eating refined sugars, pasta or breads you should be fine. Fruits are good, veggies are awesome - everything doesn't have to be meat and eggs although admittedly that's one of the easiest ways to curb cravings (cutting out all carbs and natural sugars).

P3 isn't limiting at all in my mind, but then I like steaks and grilling burgers and fish and all sorts of other proteins. My favorite part of P3 versus Atkins/LC is that I've been eating fruits again, and it's okay!

Thanks, Sassy!

I hope you all don't mind a lot of questions.

What kind of salad dressing are you using? The ranch and blue cheese I found both have sugar.

I'm actually not too concerned with the sugars in most full-fat Ranch, Caesar or Bleu Cheese dressings as they're miniscule (for the most part) compared to their low-fat counterparts. Because I'm also eating fruit and dairy products I do allow some sugars (mostly natural like lactose in milk products and fructose ONLY from fruit) in so as long as the bottle doesn't say it has more than a gram, maybe two if I really like the dressing, per serving of sugar I'm fine with it. It's rare that I put a full (serving-size) cup in my salad, over an omelet or whatever I decide to spread the dressings on, so I don't usually get more than a few grams of sugar per serving. It's totally a YMMV but I've given up on finding things that don't have sugar - even every jar of mayonnaise I've looked for has sugar, fructose, honey, dextrose or some other sugar product listed in the ingredients and I've never ever had a problem with it.

The ups and downs of P3! I have stayed within my window so am not stressing about it at all! I have been keeping up with my calories in ****** and have added the link back in my siggy. I have been running between 2200 and 2700 calories a day.

Had a great weekend! Did a lot of shopping! Bought school supplies for a family that made too much money to qualify for help but didn't have the money to buy what the kids needed for school. They had purchased the kids each a set of new clothes, a pair of shoes and a backpack. I spent around $50 for 2 kids, so think I did well. It was tax-free weekend in Texas and my daughter works at Walmart and went with me so I could use her discount. Had to go to Staples for construction paper and they had a 20% off school supplies coupon in their circular!

Amber and I each got a pair of tennis shoes at JC Penny's. They had a door buster that started at 3pm and tennis shoes were $29.99 a pair and then they had a $10 off $50 coupon! I also bought clothes for my kids and they significant others for Christmas. Attwoods had all their clearance clothing for an extra 30% off the lowest marked price. I found Cruel Girl jeans for $30 a pair and even got long sleeved western shirts on clearance! Everything for Christmas got hung in the back of my closet, so I know exactly where it is. I think that I have about half of my Christmas bought now!

I hope everyone has a wonderful Monday! We are looking forward to Wednesday here in Texas! We are suppose to get a cold front that will bring our temperature down to around 90 degrees!

I'm headed out to the store in a few minutes. I guess I'll just buy the staples until I can get a better handle on what to eat.

Can we have milk on p3? I know we can have HWC but what about other milk products?
I am very cautious with milk since it has so much natural sugar in it. I drink it only on occasion during P3 and then it usually isn't a full cup.

Most sugar that is in ranch or blue cheese isn't added sugar. It is in the butter milk, etc that the dressing is made with. Check the ingredient list and make sure that sugar (in one of it's many forms) isn't listed. I personally make my own ranch dressing from the Hidden Valley Buttermilk recipe.

Duke's Mayo is the only one that I have found that is sugar free but you have to get the full fat version, not the low fat version.

Here is some good information for P3er's too - http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/hc...-hcg-diet.html

Thank you so much! I wasn't sure if we had to stick with products that said 0 grams of sugar. I spent 2 hours in a very crowded Walmart yesterday reading ingredient lists. We do have the Duke's mayo here and I plan on trying it out today.

I'm eating my very first p3 breakfast of bacon and an omelet.

I got TOM yesterday and I'm feeling it today. I'm up .5 pound this morning before I even had a taste of p3 food. I am still down .5 from my LDW though.

What y'all eating today?

I am insane...I ordered Duke's mayo online...two jars.

I make an *awesome* feta cheese salad dressing. Mix mayo and a bit of sour cream until smooth. I add garlic powder and black pepper and then the feta cheese. YUM! I also have brought this as a dip to parties and it is GONE long before the others there. Of course you have to be a feta fan and I am!

Thanks! I've read the p3 thread umpteen times but it takes a while for things to penetrate this brain.

So, I take it we can use buttermilk in recipes!

I am sure it would be cheaper to have you get it on sale and ship it to me. I don't care...I want to avoid sugar any way I can. I told DH the Duke's mayo was mine...he can have the Hellman's!

You are not the only one!! I am not joking when I posted earlier that I would have to have it practically beaten into my head (or at least told to me at least 5 times!!!) in order for me to understand and internalize things. I have to have it in simple, simple terms. No beating around the bush for me--plain English please, no scientific talk for me!!!

*sigh* I wish we had Duke's around here! I've looked everywhere and can't find it but I'm fine with the ones I have around here (even though they try to "hide" the fact they have sugar like making it into nice words like "dextrose" or "organic honey" ). I figure as long as I maintain until my next P2 (LOAD DAYS!!! [can't believe I'm excited for those LOL]) then I'm content.

I wish we had Duke's at our Walmart! I have been driving into Dallas to go to Central Market to get it here in Texas. In fact when we were down in Houston on vacation, I made sure and found a Central Market down there and picked up 6 jars! It was on for $2.99 a jar and I had coupons for 50 cents off a jar!

As far as what I am eating today - I had a wonder waffle for breakfast - made with pork rinds. For lunch will be steak and a small salad, cherries for snack in the afternoon and probably grilled hot dogs with cheese and a small salad for dinner.

Yeah, those nice words worked on me until I read the thread about the 'ose' endings. Grrr, I didn't know that was sugar!

I transitioned to P3 yesterday afternoon. I totally forgot that you are not supposed to exercise in P3... (tobethinner pointed that out in last week's thread-thank you :blush. I was just excited I guess. Anyway, that made me REALLY hungry (plus having the HCG out of my system) so I fixed dinner and ate it and then started craving junk so bad... ate a piece of sourdough french bread AND A ding dong. Then later I ate a handful of peanuts and I read this morning that those are not allowed because it's a legume.... No wonder I was up .8 lb this morning!

So learn from me... no exercise (particularly cardio!!!) and no legumes.... now I'm chugging water and getting back on track!

Exactly! You reached goal, learned a lesson and can just keep going. At least you aren't doing a steak day on your second day. Now THAT would be a tough one.

Well, you have learned your lesson, now you are doing something to correct it. If you are not taking potassium, you may want to add it. I have heard it is good for cravings. And next time you are really hungry, eat something that is OP, that will help with the cravings for junk, too!

I am still thinking of stoping it thou and going to a low fat atkins yet at 300 pounds. it would probally be the fastest way to lose weight before surgery. any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I am so sorry to hear that Karen. I don't know why you would stop?? I am a bit confused as I think the Hhcg is the fastest way to lose weight. It sure has been the fastest for me. How long have you been on the Hhcg? When are you having surgery and what kind? We had a poster on here last year who is a breast cancer survivor and her doctor was amazed at her progress. Actually was pleased with what the hcg was doing with her weight. I would suggest continue on, but then again I have never, ever been in your situation. I hope you don't stop if you have already started the hcg diet because if you do abruptly stop without going the required 21 days you run the risk of gaining everything back---quickly. Here is a hug for when you make that decision.

Karen:

I am confused about why we need to know our BMR or what the cals we would need would average at? It seems like many people aren't counting and are eating quite a lot and stabilizing. I'm scared I'll stabilize at 1500 cals--and I don't want to be on 1500 cals forever or gain weight.

Some people want to know about how many calories to eat each day. There are several ways to do that and knowing your BMR is one of them. You don't have to count calories and can just wing it. I find it easier to stablize during P3 if I "count calories". I enter everything into ****** and it counts for me. After I have dinner, I will check my calorie count for the day and determine if I will eat a snack before bedtime. If my calorie count is too high (over 3000 calories) then I skip the snack but if it is too low (below 2500 calories) I make sure and eat a little something before 9pm. If I am between those 2 numbers then I let my stomach decide if I need a snack. Does this make sense?

I actually like the formula that was posted earlier. It gives you a good number to start with caloriewise. If you use this number and you are still losing you need to up your calorie intake. If you are gaining you need to back off a bit. If you are using the Weight Loss Tracker then your average daily loss is figured for you. Use the ADL that corresponds with your LDW. Using the formula below, my calorie needs for P3 are 3500 * .75 = 2625 calories a day. I can actually eat up to around 3000 calories a day as long as I don't eat sf ice cream! HTH!

Calculate your average daily loss: Total amount of loss (based on you PRE-LOAD WEIGHT) divided by the number of days you were on P2. This is your ADL.

Multiply the ADL x 3500 (cals) = the approximate number of calories needed for Phase 3

For example. ADL = .5 lbs a day
3500 x .5 = 1750 calories

In this example the body is used to "eating" about 1750 calories a day from the 500 calorie diet + the stored fat it is burning.

First of all a big hug and lots of prayers your way.

hhcg should be totally fine, but I am not a Dr. I would dbl check with him. If the stress of your health isn't going to make this diet cause you more stress, I'd say go for it and stay on. I don't know if I could personally. I am a stress eater and eating so restricted and planning ahead is stressful for me. But it is making a positive lifestyle change for you and it could give you a really positive focus as well.

Second, I am on a Vitamix (blender) yahoo group and have read of some people curing themselves of cancer by eating a mainly raw food diet by way of green smoothies and jucing. I also know of several "real life" people having done the same and are totally cancer free. My Grandmother included.

I'm not saying don't go to the Dr. I'm just saying in addition, I'd try to eat as natural and whole foods as much as possible.

Healing Cancer Naturally With Food, Diet and Nutrition

Raw Food Treatment For Cancer - Carrot Juice, Beet Juice, etc. - Alternative Cancer Treatments

There is also a board on this website for organic and natural eating. I'm sure someone there can give you a lot of info too.

Best of luck with your decision. We are here for you.

While I'm a few weeks out for P3, I like to plan ahead.

I will probably count calories in the beginning just to make sure I'm eating enough because I'm used to eating 1200-1400 calories. So I think it's going to be really hard initially. But after that, could you just wait until your hungry and stop when you're full? And what if you are full and you haven't eaten enough calories? Do you eat anyway?
I heard the biggest mistake on P3 is not eating enough.
This way of doing things is just so new and different. I'm excited and nervous about it! I don't want to do anything wrong and mess it up!

I don't and won't stuff myself. If I don't get in enough calories and am just not hungry, I don't eat anymore. But I usually get a little hungry between 8 and 9pm and I let my calorie count for the day determine if I eat more or not.
