Potassium (?)

I need opinions.

I'm getting cramps in one of my legs, my side (if I bend over for too long) and this morning my big toe

I've been taking 1 potassium pill a day after eating lunch. The bottle says to take 1 a day. It's 99mg.

Should I be taking more than one? I do not want to harm myself by taking too much or too little.

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

I take 2 of those pills, I know one other poster (Gracie, I think) takes 4 of them.

I never get cramps - I started taking them the second or third day. Yes, that and the B12 has made me feel really good.

I find magnesium helps best for my cramps. I usually get potassium from potassium salt (and use it on a lemon for a snack).

Problem with magnesium is I might really up the dosage to help with Bernice...then might get cramps when I return to my normal dosage.

There is a danger to potassium...but the normal RDA for potassium is 4700 milligrams. So a few 99 milligram pills will probably not hurt unless you have heart problems sensitive to the calcium/potassium ratios (I am not a doctor and don't play one on TV!)

I just started getting the leg cramps after doing low carb for two months. On my way to get some potassium today because the increased calcium/magnesium didn't seem to be helping. I think I read somewhere that you are supposed to take it before bed.

MINIMUM 3 99 mg a day while on protocol take a spoonful of ACV in a glass of water to relieve leg cramps within 3 minutes if at 5 minutes you still have cramps take another dose honestly they will magically disappear
i sent you an email earlier

Thanks everyone... I'm taking 1 with my multi-vitamin after my first meal and then another one before bed. If it doesn't take care of it, then I'm going to have to hunt down some ACV because I couldn't find it at my local store for some reason or I will up it to 3 pills.

Deb, I got it to my phone but had to wait until I got onto my computer to open it - I'm headed to my email files after I'm done here THANK YOU SO MUCH! I can't wait to start experimenting. You are a GEM!

I try for 3 a day while on P2--sometimes I don't eat 3 times a day though. But while on P3, I sure get in my 3 a day!! Have been taking this much for about a year now!!

Deb,

I keep meaning to try this. Wondering do you know WHY ACV helps this? Also does it work pro-actively, like drinking it before bed keeping you from getting cramps? I had the weirdist not quite cramps today in the front of the bottom of my leg where it joins the foot. You're suppossed to drink this through a straw to protect your teeth arent you?

Thanks

CRAMPS
Muscle cramps can be caused by a calcium and magnesium imbalance in the body and by a lack of vitamin E. To help prevent the recurrence of cramps, take a regular tonic of apple cider vinegar (2 or 3 teaspoons to 8 ounces of water) along with 1 teaspoon of honey.
found on web but since we can't do the honey a splenda packet makes it easier to drink i don't need it though and actually over ice it is quite refreshing
hmmm found this HTH

The source of apple cider vinegar health benefits is the apple which has long been known as a nutritional powerhouse. It contains many vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and dietary fiber, while at the same time having very little fat and sodium.

Apple cider vinegar, made from whole apples and not pasteurized or filtered, will also contain all these nutrients plus the many enzymes and organic acids produced during the two fermentations needed to make the vinegar.

Many experts believe that these extra fermentation products are important elements in apple cider vinegar's health benefits and weight loss properties.

The following list quantifies much of the nutritional bounty found in apples:

1 Medium Apple (138g)

Water:.......... 115.8 grams

Vitamin B1:....... 0.02 milligram
Vitamin B2:....... 0.02 milligram
Vitamin B6:....... 0.07 milligram

Here, grouped by nutritional category, are some of the apple cider vinegar health benefits we can all make use of:

Organic Acids

Apple cider vinegar contains 5% acetic acid and much smaller amounts of malic acid, lactic acid, and various amino acids. They give apple cider vinegar its antiseptic property, which helps deter the growth of unwanted bacteria and yeasts in the digestive track.By taking a little apple cider vinegar before a meal, you can increase stomach acidity and thereby improve digestion and nutrient uptake.

Dr Jarvis M.D., author of Folk Medicine: A Vermont Doctor's Guide to Good Health, advocated the use of apple cider vinegar to maintain the acid alkaline balance (pH balance) of the body's urine.

He maintained that the urine shifts from its healthy acidic pH toward alkalinity when you are ill.
Through years of research he found that restoring the urine's pH to the acid region enabled his subjects to either bypass illnesses such as the common cold or to at least get better faster and to reduce the pain or severity of sinus, allergy and asthma attacks.

Vitamins and other antioxidants

Some of the vitamins, amino acids, and bioflavonoids found in apples and apple cider vinegar are antioxidants, which help prevent cancer and protect the body against damage caused by exposure to chemical toxins. How's that for an apple cider vinegar health benefit!

Fiber

Apples and apple cider vinegar contain pectin, a water soluble fiber which can absorb water, fat, toxins, and cholesterol in the digestive tract and remove them from the body. Pectin also improves glucose metabolism and lowers blood pressure resulting in improved heart health. The insoluble fiber in apples aids digestion and elimination, promotes regularity, and contributes to bowel cleaning.

Click here to find out more about dietary fiber and health, your recommended daily intake and a list of other food high in fiber.

Minerals

As shown in the list of nutrients, apples and apple cider vinegar have a host of easily absorbable minerals, with potassium being by far the most
plentiful. Potassium works together with sodium in the control of the body's water balance, conduction of nerve impulses, contraction of muscles, maintenance of a normal heart rhythm, and it is essential for the storage of carbohydrate and its breakdown for energy.

Click here for more information on potassium, your daily requirement, and the amounts in some other foods.

Magnesium, a mineral found in smaller amounts, is a vital catalyst in enzyme activity, involved in the production of energy from food. It assists in the uptake of calcium and potassium and is required for the formation of healthy bones and teeth.

I'm baaaack

Hi Deb, its me Sunny. I've been MIA and had to change my name.

Tried the ACV and I couldnt drink it, just a spoonful in a BIG glass of ice and water and I wanted to puke. It was just the cheap grocery kind tho, does the one with the mother in it taste better?

I quit having any kind of cramps or near cramps though. I have been taking a LOT of Potassium and Magnesium, double what I was taking probably and I started taking MSM. I've had off and on cramping problems my whole life so I doubt they are gone for good.
