Massage Therapist need some advice for protocol

I'm a massage therapist and I'm looking for an alternative to what I can use during protocol.

I own my own business and only massage part time so I am capable of scheduling clients as best as I can around my short round which will be starting Aug 16th but I've got 2 clients that week so far

I am not going to look for clients but I can't turn them away either.

I got some massage gel in the mail today thinking it would be better choice but after reading the label....no...no it wasn't..lol

I'm thinking mineral oil is the only thing I can try to use?

Is anyone doing this that is a massage therapist? Or maybe knows one that did it?

I managed to find a thread on another message board that suggested coconut massage oil or jojoba oil. I'm not sure which would work better..maybe it doesn't matter. I just want it to work.

I have plenty of time to order some new oil before I start so that's good news.

At least if any other massage therapists come along I'll be able to help them!

Hi! I am a CMT and work a couple days a week. I have been using my regular lotion (Biotone Advanced Therapy lotion) with no problems! I just make sure to wash my hands/forearms really well...but I do that anyways after each massage!

I don't see why coconut oil is recommended at all for P2. It is metabolized through the skin as if you had ingested it so you would have to account for those fat calories. I would NOT use coconut oil!!!! Mineral oil is what Dr S suggests and that is what I would use in your position.

I was leaning towards the mineral oil myself....I'm just not sure of the glide factor with mineral oil. I know I like to put it on my skin after a shower but that's not the same thing.

I'm use to my oil...I LIKE my oil...so this will be something I'll have to get use to because I don't want to mess myself up during the protocol.

I've seen the coconut oil suggested more than once.....so I'm really not sure....but I'll pick up some mineral oil soon and maybe I can work on someone as a guinea pig to get use to it.

And wash my hands like crazy afterwards...that's all I can think of.

Colleen

What oil do you like to use, on an aside note? My DH gets regular massages and I would be interested in knowing! He goes once a month, but needs them more like once a week. His chest is to tight and he does have breathing issues and he has found that the only thing that really helps is a massage. He relishes that time!!! His massage was cancelled this afternoon but rescheduled for tomorrow. At least he gets one before we leave for the week!!

Dawn,

The name of the brand I use is Soothing Touch. It's fragrance free, natural ayurvedic forumula. It's also water dispersible.

I think everyone should get a massage once a month. I realize I'm biased but there are so many benefits from massage. I went once a month for 10 yrs before I decided I wanted to become a massage therapist. I love it! I wish I did it 20 yrs ago.

My bf had never had a massage before I gave him one...now he's a believer!

I'm glad your husband gets them..you should too!

One of my missions is to educate people (esp women) about the benefits of massage and I have the ability to set my prices so that they are afforadble, allowing people to come in more often rather than a once a year treat.

Ok..enough of me promoting myself..lol I'm very passionate about what I do....I'm blessed.

Thanks for sharing Colleen. No matter how much I tell him he won't go more than once a month. He needs it weekly and would benefit greatly. If only they would be covered under the FSA LOL. He would do it then!! Ah, well. At least he goes once a month! Every massage therapist he gets says he is dehydrated and needs more water, and says he is really tight in his neck shoulder area. I think they know their stuff!! And of course DH would love for me to go to massage therapy school too and I entertained the idea, but it isn't for me! I would not be able to push as hard as he requires---he always needs to have a big muscular dude to do his massages. He needs the deep tissue ones. I am simply not strong enough for that! I sure wish I lived near you!! You could be my massage therapist! How neat would that be!!

That would be awesome!

I specialize in relaxation ie: swedish. It's my strength. I can do DT but I prefer swedish...actually I really mix them up, which I think is what most therapists do after awhile anyway.

Most people seem to carry their stress in their upper back, shoulders and neck. Some people are as tight as a drum.

I am NOT a touch feely person so for me to say I want to be a massage therapist had more than one person looking at me funny... and I was scared I was going to hate touching people to be honest...but I didn't....though I'm not crazy about hairy men all that much

It's too bad his massage isn't covered. I do understand that most can't do them as often as they would like..heck I'd be going once a week if I could. Believe it or not since I've become one I don't get them as often...go figure.

I'm on vacation next week and I'm getting the works at the hotel!

On my sheet from the Naturopathic Dr's office it lists coconut oil or mineral oil.

Dr Willebrand says that coconut oil is ok because it is a plant fat (oil) not an animal based fat.

Lean

I would still avoid it as it is not on the original list of allowed foods!! No oils on P2!!

Yah...I'm to afraid to experiment my first round. I think I'm going to try the mineral oil and see if I can make due. I think (hope) my clients won't be able to tell anything is different.

I have zero desire to tell anyone around me I'm doing this diet.

A. they won't understand and B. they won't agree with it....not even telling the bf...he lives across the other side of the state so I don't see him every week...so I'm hoping we only see each other couple times during my first round. He knows I'm lc so to him it won't look much different.

I have 6 clients scheduled for this week....6!! I was hoping for none..lol I bought the mineral oil and I was going to use it on my client today...but...I couldn't. I ended up using some massage gel that I bought that I thought might work better.....loooooove it!

I have NO clue how my weigh in will be tomorrow. I used as little of the product as I could and I washed my hands right away...so...we'll see. I can't put something on my clients I wouldn't want on my own skin...for a moisturizer mineral oil is great..but for massage...ah no....my hands were a sticky mess just trying to experiment with it.

Lala.....you should be able to get in your first round before school starts. I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow after I weigh in...this week will be a true test...if I can use my gel and still lose..I'll be VERY happy.

Enjoy that part about school...the getting! We had to give a min of 3 massages a week as homework. I had more friends than I knew what to do with..lol

Now that I am a massage therapist I don't get them near enough...go figure.

I will post in the morning how I do...and like I said...this week I'm pretty busy so I'll have a good idea how it's going to go.

Happy to report I used massage gel yesterday on my client and I'm down 2 lbs this morning...big sigh of relief. I imagined I'd be up 3 today..lol

I'm still not going to go overboard with the stuff but...I'm feeling better and at least I can work during protocol!

Actually......after switching from the oil to the gel....I find I LOOOOVE the gel!

I think it's much lighter for the client and doesn't leave them as oily when I'm done. Glides like silk across the body and smells nice too!
