What is HCG?

I've seen "HCG" thrown around a lot on this site and frankly it's the first time I've heard about it. Over on the Other Plans forums there are several threads for it, some of which are thousands of posts long. I know it has to do with Simeon's Protocol (?) but what exactly does that mean? Is it a drug for weightloss? A diet plan? Both? I'm guessing it's both but whenever I do a Google search for HCG I come up with some off the wall medical jargon that I'm not 100% sure is about the diet.

Is there a website for Dr. Simeon? And is the HCG available over the counter, or by prescription only?

I'm certain this has been asked before too so if I could be (gently, please) directed to other threads that have the info that would work too. Thanks for any information.

Sarah

hCG is a hormone therapy used for weight loss. Dr. Simeon's wrote the original manuscript which can be found for free online if you google it. The hCG itself does require a prescription, but can be ordered internationally or used in an available homeopathic alternative. If you are interested, you should read the Simeon's Protocol and then go through the threads on here you found for more information.

I am currently on my first round and LOVE IT!!! It is definitely not for everyone, but you can find tons of information on it here and online. We will be over on the other thread to cheer you on if you decide to join in!

From Wikipedia:

Human chorionic gonadotropin or human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) is a glycoprotein hormone produced in pregnancy that is made by the developing embryo after conception and later by the syncytiotrophoblast (part of the placenta).[1] Its role is to prevent the disintegration of the corpus luteum of the ovary and thereby maintain progesterone production that is critical for a pregnancy in humans. hCG may have additional functions; for instance, it is thought that hCG affects the immune tolerance of the pregnancy. Early pregnancy testing, in general, is based on the detection or measurement of hCG. Because hCG is produced also by some kinds of tumor, hCG is an important tumor marker especially (with clinical significance) in Gestational trophoblastic disease,[2] but it is not known whether this production is a contributing cause or an effect of tumorigenesis.

Wow that's incredible, congratulations! How long did it take you?

That's actually the thread I've been reading, but while it has a ton of great tips it doesn't really talk much about the protocol itself, or the science behind it. Why would a tumor/fetus-produced hormone aid in weightloss?

This is how I understand it, but am fairly new so it could be wrong. The full scientific explanation is in the short protocol you can download for free online.

Basically, hcg causes the mother's body to burn 1,500-3,000 calories (roughly) of stored fat as a constant source of nutrition for the fetus so that it does not starve if she goes without food for some period of time. When you are not pregnant and take it, it causes the same amount of fat release, but because you don't have a fetus you yourself are using those calories from fat for fuel. This is what provides the satiating effect of hcg, and is why you do not feel hungry when only consuming 500 calories. You actually have at least 2,000 calories including your food consumption and the burned fat as your fuel resources each day.

Hi there,

I did 3 months of home brew sublingual Hcg that I made from Hcg I ordered from India. I added low cal protein shakes to my diet, which was something a friend of mine did who was following the expensive "doctor supervised" plan. Hers was the Releana Plan. The extra protein is something that was not stressed in Dr. Simeons book but helps maintain the muscle. I lost 30 lbs - fast.

It works. It's not easy to get started but once you're in ketosis it works. You don't eat much and you can get hungry. My friend had trouble with her "loading days" or phase 1. She'd gorge on donuts. I told her to up her fats and cut her sugary carbs during phase one to help get into ketosis, which is really what phase 1 wants to lead you into. These are some of the subtle things the diet is going for. It is very similar in some ways to the PSMF that Lyle MacDonald has written about, except, it isn't specific or tell you why you should eat what you eat.

I hope this is helpful. There is an entire yahoo group about Hcg. Good luck to you,

Marian

I'll be honest it almost sounds too good to be true! I think my biggest worry would be that instead of burning fat, you destroy muscle especially on only 500 calories a day.

I get what the loading days are for, but after the initial 3 weeks what do you need to do to get off the diet? Seems there's a brief (?) transition period there.

If anyone has the link or name of the Yahoo group can you post it? Personally I think I'd wait until I was closer to my goal to do this, but I'd love to know more about the science behind HCG - it sounds fascinating!!

I have done 3 rounds and ended up at 115. I am maintaining at 118. I have posted pictures of my afters just yesterday or the day before in the thread I linked here. As you can tell from those pics I am not wasted!! I can actually stand to do another round. But want to remain at 118 for a while and stay stable first. I started my round last year in June and finished my 3rd round in Jan or thereabouts. So it didn't take long. I hope by now you understand more about the plan. I didn't understand it--I just cared if it worked!!! I followed the diet as written and didn't deviate. That is why it works. It works if you work it!! Good luck!!!

When you do your loading days do you have to eat low sugar? I read the pounds and inches and I don't see that it says eat low sugar. I may be wrong. I thought it was gorge and eat high fat. Can someone straighten me out?

It is used mainly in women for fertility issues. It is prescribed in HUGE doses for fertility. When you use it for weight loss, it is 125-175 iu/day which is very minimal compared to the 100,000 iu/day doses for fertility. HTH
