My physician said starting an intense BC such as the depo before you are "fully developed" could have these effects. So maybe thats y....but if its been working for you for 13 years!! then right on!! lol

I also have a best friend who has been on depo for two years and she hasnt gained any. So I think it just affects people differently, and on top of that I don't blame all my weight gain on the depo. I know the fact that I quit sports hurt me alot! and then I just didn't eat properly ..always with the junk food =/
NOW thnx to the protocol.. I have a new outlook on a healthy diet altogether!
look forward to getting to know you =))
i was gonna say, am I the only one! I 've been on depo since 95, and I didn't really start to have weight problems till around 2005 or6 when I left my 5000+ steps job as a clerk for a health food store with no chairs to rest , and went to a 40hrs/week desk job,and then to a 30hr/wk driving job. I went from on my feet all day to On my butt for most of my waking hours. Prior to that I'd been pretty stable with my weight even while eating all the carbalishous foods in Japan's Tokyo: rice , udon, ramen, gyouza, okonomiyaki, bread, ice cream, more rice, more ramen, mochi (sweetened rice gum) you name it. I came back thinner from all the biking and walking and running to catch the train I had to do to get around town. and when I came back I did gain some weight but was still within normal range till changed jobs and became sedentary. I think I may have forstalled some of the gain for so long by being generally low carb (except in japan)

never ever ever ever cheat...hahah ....i stay super super strict to the diet
and mostly the thing that i've found is just listen to your body..ive found that i cant eat certain things that are on the protocol list (makes me either stall or even gain weight)...which makes our strict list even more so...
although i have been having trouble with stalls lately...yesterday was an apple day for me (the trick on apple days is only drink enough water to quench your thirst) ..and broke 1.4 lb loss this morning so i think it worked..i hope i can carry that loss through this morning.

Hi guys! I am a lurker, and don't post much. Just thought I would pop in and say thanks again to all of the daily posters. I read the thread daily, and feel like having other people sharing their experiences helps to keep me on track.

People in other threads can say what they want to. My success speaks for itself. I started R1 of injections at the end of March at 205 lbs. I lost 25 lbs. that round. I stabilized well, and only gained 2 lbs in P3 & P4. I am halfway through R2. I am struggling, and the weight seems to be coming off much slower this round. The hunger is lingering as well. However, as far as I am concerned, even 10 lbs. is a victory. I am currently 172.5 lbs. I hope to get to 160-165 by the end of this round.

I did Atkins off and on for years as well, but after I was diagnosed as Hypothyroid nothing seemed to work anymore. This has been a miracle for me. I acknowledge that it is no quick and easy fix. It is hard, and it takes work. I remind myself every day, "Dieting is hard. Being fat is hard. Choose your hard."

Luckily, I am single and live alone. That makes meal preparation much easier to deal with. There are always the people at work that want to know what I have done to lose the weight. I don't care to debate the issue, so I tell them that I cycle diets. A few weeks of Low Cal/Low Fat, followed by a few weeks of Low Carb, followed by a short break, repeat. ;-) That seems to satisfy them all.

I did my entire first round with no cheats. However, I knew when I started this round that I had a pool party to attend that would fall right in the middle of my R2P2. I honesty avoided the invite altogether last year because I was too self conscious about my weight. I regretted missing out on the fun later, and promised myself that I wouldn't miss it if invited again this year. Can't bring myself to wear a bathing suit and enjoy the pool, but I hope to at least have fun socializing. I don't go out much, so I really want to have a fun evening. I have decided not to torture myself over the food or alcoholic beverages. Hopefully, the damage will be minimal.

Wishing everyone the best of luck!

Kd

Hello to KD and Laura! Welcome!

@Gracie, Thank you. I am occasionally looking forward to P3 but I also try not to think about it much. Its funny you asked that. Everyone's area is probably bombarded with radio commercials about HCG clinics. One of the one's here always comments on HCG's ability to "dramatically change the dieter's relationship with food". All I keep thinking is...hm, I'm divorced and lonely and worried about "rebounding" on the next food that comes along!

Mostly I just plan to go slow and eat nearly the same as now only lots more protein. I'm kind of afraid to add stuff in, even though I know I have to. I'll admit I am really looking forward to cheese and bacon. I've built the BLT(C) lettuce wrap in my head dozens of times!

My DH on the other hand already has his next loading days planned to every detail like a kid makes Christmas lists. Psychologically that can't be good!

Don't be afraid of P3!!! I can bounce up 5 pounds and then be back down within 2 days of clean eating. Just follow the protocol rules for P3 and you will be fine. I learned the hard way some things I just can't eat. Cream cheese muffins are so good, but they make me gain. Probably because I eat 6 of them in one day I just can't have them in the house. Nuts are another thing I have to stay away from because I have no control at all with them. Just start VERY slow, don't add a lot back in the first week or you'll have some tummy problems. I went like gangbusters my very first P3 day and boy did I pay for it Oh, and most importantly, drink lots of water - that will help you all around.

Here is a little introduction for myself to get to know all of you!
My name is Laura and I'm new to Low Carb Friends, although I am not new to the HCG Protocol. Yes to all of you, I'm still a baby. I'm only 19, but I am wise beyond my years...lol. My weight struggle started my sophomore year of high school. The beginning of my freshman year I weighed 130, I was extremely active and involved in competitive cheerleading, track, basketball, golf, and cross country. My freshman year I started to have TERRIBLE ovarian cysts that came with extreme pain, they caused me agony in all of the sports I competed in. My gyno recommended that I get on birthcontrol which would solve my problem of the cysts completely. She recommended depo proevra "the depo shot" as the best birthcontrol, little did i know that this would be the root cause of my downward spiral into obesity. Depo is the BC best known for weight gain, depression, and that always hungry feeling. I put on the weight slowly but surely the first two years. By the end of my freshman year I weighed 145, end of sophmore 160 (by this time i quit all of the sports i was involved in because i couldnt keep up with the other girls), end of junior 180, end of senior year 190, end of freshman year of college (Jan 2010) 208. In january i made the smartest decision of my life and got off the depo after being on it for 4.5 years. I started to lose weight very very slowly. I then learned about Dr. Simeon's protocol early in April, and instantly thought this would be my solution because I do have the drive and will power to stay on a 500 calorie diet. On April 28th 2010 my 19th birthday I started my first load day.. weighing in at 199.6 =/... first menu day was May 1st. My current weight now is 168.6 as of this morning!!! from january when i got off the depo thats a TOTAL OF 40 LBS!!! woohoo.. I'm almost done with P2 I probably have 2 weeks left in my vial! I'm so excited to finally be on P3 soon, although I am extremely worried about gaining the weight back on P3. In P2 my body has been extremely picky about the protocol foods I can eat....any broccli, cauliflower, cabbage, tomatoes, sugarfree jello, diet coke (w/splenda), any sort of beef will all make either not lose weight or gain weight. So I'm having major worries about P3...and advice out there?

I look forward to getting to know you all!!
Welcome Laura! Please read my above post to UTDramaQueen about P3. Keep it simple and don't go crazy. I know you'll be excited to add new things in but just add one new thing a day to give your tummy time to get used to it. I do best on high fat, moderate protein, veggies, berries. I noticed you ate broccoli and cauliflower in P2 and had gains or stayed the same. Those are not listed in "Pounds & Inches" so I don't know why you were eating them at all. Unless you have a list from a clinic or something? Dr. Simeons did not include those in the protocol. Maybe that's why you had problems with them. Great job on the weight loss thus far!

You know, I've been doing that since my first round and I've actually find that useful during P2 to help stave off cravings. I don't intend to eat everything on the list during load days, but it gives me a list of ideas for loading (or P3/P4) that can be helpul. It's good to reflect on the things that you crave and make sure that you give yourself an opportunity to have them when it's an appropriate time. It makes it easier to deny yourself when it's not an appropriate time.

Good morning everyone! Woof-tah, I slept in this morning. The birds were chirping at like 4 AM right outside my window (I love the birds but why do they have to wake up so early?) so I had to put in my ear plugs. I didn't hear any of the kids get up, or my DH get home (he works nights), and woke up at 9:30! It felt good, though.

So, my weigh in this morning is the same, 128.5. So that makes the last 4 mornings 128.5, 129, 128.5, 128.5. I'm thinking if it's still the same tomorrow I'll do an apple day, which starts at lunch right? So, I'd have my coffee in the morning like normal? And then at lunch and beyond eat up to 6 apples? The apple day would end the next day at lunch, so does that mean the next morning I can't have my coffee? But I could in all logic have an apple the next morning for breakfast, right? And, of course, only enough water to quench my thirst. What about my potassium and B supplements? Do I still take those on an apple day?

I'm really hoping not to have to do the apple day, it sounds less than fun. So, I'm really hoping this is just the dreaded week 3 garbage that will be over after tomorrow!

Thanks everyone for posting your successes and your advice, it's priceless to have a support group! I am so excited for everyone's losses, it makes me want to jump up and down, seriously! Last night I took some measurements for the first time since starting, and, drum roll..... I've lost a total of 8 inches and 12 pounds! I tried on a size 6 pants (banana republic so I know it runs smaller than a Target size 6, but still) last night and they were a perfect fit! I am almost there, and it seems too good to be true. I am so thankful to my best friend who was my guinea pig and my hcg 'dealer,' for showing me the awesome blessing of this protocol! (You know who you are) ;D

When I did my apple day just last week I had my 2 cups of coffee as usual in the morning. Before "lunch"--to me that is noon. And then I had over the course of the next 24 hours only 20 oz of water--the entire time. I had that much only because I did have to take some required supplements (thyroid, blood sugar, those type things) and I lost 2.4 pounds. I was astounded!! But very thankful!!! And I managed to have only 5 apples. I wish you luck!!!!

Just stopping by to say "HEY!" ... I'm stuck in another stall which I thought I broke yesterday only to gain again today. Being very strict the last five days, extra water, but so far my body isn't budging much but it HAS TO BUDGE eventually! I may be doing an apple day but I keep putting it off hoping I won't have to do it! UGH.

Plowing through concrete ....

Marci, you are doing fabulous!!! You have lost nearly 30 pounds since March Those stalls suck, but your body will eventually give in. I say go for the apple day and see what happens.

WOE: restarting EFGT then a summer HCG round...

There is no measurement limits on the vegetables such as only one cup of this or that. the only prescription on the veggies is to keep the entire days menu below 500 calories. So if you eat grapefruit instead of strawberries you could have a lot more celery or other vegetable so long as you stay under 500 calories.

And you are allowed 2 grissini per day( one with each meal, or separately) , and 1 Tablespoon of milk per day.

How strick are you guys in relation to the no makeup, I use purminerals makeup so I would think that would be okay. it says you can use eye brow pencil, but I just have to use eye liner.

Alcohol in moderation I assume is a no-no? The protocal doesn't say much about it, except for a brief paragrah about alcoholics...lol
