Anyone on hcg diet with thyroid issues?
I asked this question in the hcg thread, but don't know if that was the correct place to ask.
Do you need to stop your thyroid replacement in order to do the hcg diet? Does anyone know anyone who has taken thyroid replacement and also done the hcg diet? I was reading some information on the diet and what I read suggested that the hcg diet won't work with thyroid replacement, but it wasn't clear and didn't offer anymore information on why. |

This is a question you should ask your doctor.
I take thyroid replacement, and would never stop my meds without my doctor's knowledge and approval. Someone asked about HCG on the thyroid thread (on these boards) a while back, and our resident expert, Pam, had never heard of it, so she consulted several doctors (nationwide) that she respects. They all advised against this for thyroid patients. However, several people responded that their doctors had recommended it. So it's difficult to tell. In any case, you should consult your doctor about this. |

Actually, it is a doctor (MD) that you see to do this diet, but I couldn't see getting off my meds.
Before I signed up I'd certainly have to talk with my doctor, but I was trying to get some information so I don't waste my time and make an appointment for nothing. |

I meant your thyroid doctor (whoever prescribed your meds).
Personally, I'd never go off my thyroid meds, but that's a choice you have to make, of course. I don't know how to search on this board, but, as I mentioned, there was a discussion of thyroid and HCG on the thyroid thread not too long ago, and you might want to check it out OR post your query there. |

I'll give you my personal experience. I've been hypothyroid for almost 12 years. The past 5 - I've been unable to lose weight, despite strict dieting and moderate exercise. I started my first round of hcg this past November. My doctor kept me on Armour/dessicated thyroid medication.
I lost 32 pounds in my first round. The doctor tested my thyroid about 10 days after I finished the round. It was low - TSH was 36 and Free T3 and T4 were low. He upped my dosage significantly. I'm now 3/4 way through with my second round and have lost about 23 pounds. Again - I'm still taking my thyroid meds. HCG has been a miracle for me - 55 pounds and counting! ![]() |

I've continued to use my thyroid meds even on the hcg. I am a very slow loser and I attribute this to my thyroid and my age, but I did not stop the meds while doing hcg.

Thank you everyone for the input. I didn't think that I could go off of my meds and if they told me I had to then it wouldn't be the diet for me. When my thyroid meds need adjustment, I get severe depression and nothing is worth that.
I believe that I will give this a try. A friend at work is thinking about doing it with me. My mom did it in the 70's and was very successful, but I don't remember her doing a P3 cycle. I am also on BHRT and I can see them having me stop that because it is in cream form and I don't know how I'll feel about that. I have an appt. next Thursday and I'll get these questions answered then. I'm sure there must be people in my same situation that they have experience with. I so hope this helps. I really want to get the rest of this weight off. Although low carb makes me feel good, I just can't take the weight off anymore. |

Levo
I stopped taking my levothyroxine while I was on hCG and I had to go back on it. My doctor knows that I try not to take medicine regularly but she said this: "anything under 1 mg is a supplement and does not replace what your thyroid makes". She told me just to think of it as a helper, not something my body can't do on it's own but something of which it doesn't make enough. She also said that if I wanted to keep the weight off and not struggle constantly, that I needed to start taking my 88 mcg of it again daily.
So, alas, I am taking it again and am starting to slowly feel less sleepy, groggy, etc. |

I was taking 125 mcg of Synthroid and when I went to the Naturopath, she switched me to Armour thyroid and doing 60 mg.
I feel much better with the Armour and HCG and was losing weight until I ruined my hHCG. |
