oh i agree, It is something to consider. Seems neither of us have had this unfortunate side effect over the past 5 years, me 10 years, but that doesn't mean that it won't start affecting me as my body changes.

I just don't suspect Depo for random large spikes of half a pound especially during HCG treatment.

I DO have to consider that as I maintain, that it might make weight gain.

Down 2.5lb today! I have done 2 days of VLCD and I am determined to stick to it. The first day I was craving everything.....I wasn't hungry I just wanted to eat everything!
I was wondering if the Depo caused any problems with this protocol, I am due for my depo shot but I didn't want to get it if it would mess up my losses.

weird calorie counts

Hi everyone, today is day 6 and I didn't lose or gain...isn't it too early for a stall?
I decided to count my calories, and 100 grams of 95% lean ground beef, a small tomato, a melba, and a medium apple came up to 330 calories...so if i do that twice a day, but sub chicken breast, aren't i going over 500 calories? Any help would be great, guys. I'm still down 8 pounds, so I'm not complaining. just worried about stalling too soon!
Great job on all the progress everyone!

Great job on all the progress everyone!

Can you get some smaller apples? Do you count the whole apple? I weigh my apples when planning my meals, but when I core them and actually use them I weight them without the core, since I don't eat that. That removes a good amount of calories when it comes to apples.
I measured a small apple, about the size of a tennis ball and that came to 78 calories. Before I removed the core, it was 86 calories. not many calories but doing that twice is around 16 or more calories and that's almost a whole grissini or melba toast serving. I do the same with my grapefruit( subtract the empty skin) and my strawberries ( subtract the tops I cut off), and my orange. Do the same with shrimp, the shells are almost a quarter of the weight. When I take the skins off and weight the actual meat often goes from 100g to 75 grams, that's a big difference.

You might want to try fish and shrimp sometimes or you will be going over everyday.

I have never kept track of my calories, just followed Dr. Simeons allowed list. When I plug those numbers in I get the following:

1. 3.5 ounces lean 95% beef - 169
1 apple - medium 70
1 melba 20
1 small tomato 19

TOTAL 278 calories - so it's pretty darn close! HTH

wow, 169? I get Walmart 96% lean beef and it is 125kcal per 100g.

Quote:
Serving Size 112 g

Calories 140
140kcal/112g = 1.25Kcal/gram x 100g = 125Kcal

That's a big difference!

Thank you so much for your help, everyone! Maybe it depends on the calorie counters? Maybe they're different? I looked for the leanest meat, and 95% was the best I could do. I do have a walmart, but I typically don't buy meat from there. I'm not being snooty, lol, I only purchase organic and kosher. Do you all think it's too early for a stall? Does it matter if I only use tomatoes and cucumbers as my veggies? What would happen if I had two servings of chicken instead of one beef and one chicken? I'm so motivated and really want to keep on track!

Yeah I wouldn't stop your depo shot either. I've come to the point where if I am more than 2 weeks late with my depo, then my period starts. I know it says it can take 6 months to come back but not with me!

So someone mentioned to me another way to break a stall instead of an apple day is just to do a protein day..which means you just eat your two 100 grams serving of protein and leave out the rest..plus you can still drink all your fluids. So I figured, what the heck, I don't want to do an apple day and I like eating my protein. I am not hungry so it's not hard at all to leave out the fruit and grissini and veggie. Plus I don't think it's totally off protocol since Simeon's does say you don't have to eat all of your food. We'll see what happens tomorrow..

I think it just depends on where we get our calorie counts from - package labels, fit day, caloriecounter, etc. I don't ever count calories, I just eat what I'm allowed each day. It looks like the information is all over the board!

Oh Yeah, the Modified Steak Day! I didnt' want to mention that since it's not technically a P&I sanctioned stall breaker(I get fussed at for making "suggestions"), but I used those on a previous round to get over goose eggs.

Ah good to know metga! It seems like it has worked for most people. I am glad I found out before I ate lunch so I just ate my chicken and then will have fish or shrimp for dinner. So far so good!

Sorry for the in and out posting!

My triplets and my two middle daughters have been sick. I've counted 26 episodes of vomiting in the past two days alone.

I'm hoping we're past the worst of it. :0)

Well, with the meat, I get it from the label. Anyone else who buys Walmart brand 96% lean should be able to count on having the same nutrition counts.
I'd hope that information is not all over the place

For things like fresh fruit and veggies I use USDA Food Nutrition Database. and with the bread sticks I use the label from that brand. When I changed brands, I used the new boxes label.

One thing about ****** is that they have so many options that may not be exactly what you use that it can come out wrong. Some folks choose Chicken breast, instead of Broiler, Breast meat, No skin, raw. It's a 50 calorie difference.

The nice thing about ****** is that you can make a custom food. The walmart % is not an option so I make it custom, but I don't use ****** to track my own daily calories but to show others my menues in general.

I use a spreadsheet with information from labels, packaging and USDA so that it is always consistent for me. So I can tweak my menu down to the gram. Now I don't measure spices, but I use regular quantities, so it is very low in calories.

But I do count the 5 calories from my chicken broth, and the 10 calories from my sugar free fat free Raspberry vinagrette dressing, and the 5 calories from my Ranch Dry mix I sprinkle on my fish. Keeping track of my calories tells me I can cut the calories from the uneaten core of my apple and have those condiments and still not exceed 500 calories.

But then again I may be a control freak!

Yeah, ****** has way too many options! I'm the exact opposite - I don't count anything because I would get too obsessed and stressed over it. I do weigh all my meats though prior to cooking. I buy small/medium apples and usually eat about 5-6 strawberries for a serving. Veggies are pretty easy because they have so little calories except for asparagus. I'm sure I'm very close to 500 if not below each day. No worries!

I think tomatoes maybe a problem for me! Yesterday I had the P2 chili....which I love! I did lose today but when I did the ketosis test it didn't show I was in ketosis!
I love that chili...and it has been sooo cold here ....raining and snowing! I wish I could have had it today, but I thought I would try avoiding the tomatoes and see what happens tomorrow.
So for lunch today I had the dizzy salad! again LOL

The ketostix won't register if you're drinking alot of water. This would happen to me all the time on Atkins. Try it first thing in the morning when you haven't drank any water for a long period. You had an awesome loss so I definitely wouldn't think the tomatoes were a problem. I eat the chili 4-5 times a week and I love it!

I agree with Gracie. If you lost then you are doing fine. Ketones are a tricky thing because water intake can affect it, as well as your body's own activity. Ketones are fuel, so if your body uses more of them then there will be less to put out.

Ketosticks are good to check , I think they are more indicative when you are losing weight slowly like with low carb and you need to be sure you are still in the zone. On HCG it's just a happy color to notice cause the proof is the loss. Now I could have used one of those when I was stalled for 5 days and freaking out, but . . yeah...

hormones do make you gain weight (sometimes)

All forms of birth control make you gain weight. I went to a fertility doctor for years trying to conceive and my doctor as well as the nurses told me so. Any time you have synthetic hormones in your body, SOMETHING changes. I gained 20 from my invitro meds. Perhaps for some people it doesn't affect them, but I would say many, many women gain weight on any type of hormones.

Let me add, I was a very good life low carber and changed NOTHING when I started gaining weight, other than the hormones.
