Thanks Doris, it's late here too and I'm off to bed.
Going to try to drive in to see the family tomorrow.:sleepy:

mykneesareback 05-03-2014 09:56 PM

Hope are feeling well enough to drive and get around tomorrow, Linda!

LoveMontana 05-03-2014 10:00 PM

Thanks, Doris. Hope you can get a good night's sleep.

back in the saddle again. HI EVERYONE

mykneesareback 05-04-2014 07:20 AM

Welcome back, Sheila. Back in the saddle, eh? :)
I'm ready for a new saddle or a new horse by now, lol!!

We are heading for lovely Barstow, supposed to be 91 there today. It's 41 here in Flagstaff, lovely, have the window open all night for fresh air.

See you guys tonight :shake:

Begete 05-04-2014 08:21 AM

Flagstaff, Doris? You sure travelled far in one day!

John has a cold so we took it pretty easy yesterday except we went to a Mexican restaurant with friends for dinner. I am perplexed. These friends retired here from Southern California, so one would think that their opinion of what is good Mexican food would be accurate, but we were very dissappointed as they had been raving about this new restaurant for months.
When we go to Southern California in the winter, we LOVE the food at one restaurant that Travel Advisor rates #2 in the area. We went with Mary to the #1 rated Mexican restaurant, where the service was better, but we still thought the food at #2 was better than #1, but that is out of several hundred restaurants! The restaurant last night was no where near as good as either.
Plus, it was a very large restuarant, yet when we left, the smell of the restaurant clung to my clothes. That is one of my pet peeves. I HATE when there is such poor ventilation that the smell clings to you even if we loved the food!
It is 7:15 am here, and trying to decide whether or not to go to my volunteer job at the Rhodie garden. It is no longer raining just now, but the forecast is for more rain today.

Have a good one.

Good morning all,

Lot's of cooking planned for today - Will be making some more LC orange cranberry scones to bring to work, also making a batch of mushroom pot stickers. If there's time, I might to a slow cooker chicken/Andouille sausage recipe. That should keep me out of trouble!

Hope you all have a great day and may the fourth be with you !! :D

Mssarge 05-04-2014 08:25 AM

Good morning all..I'm up but not moving too quickly. But that's okay, it's Sunday and we don't have to move quickly...just church on the plan for today and watch another episode in Roma Downey's The Bible....have a great day all.

Doris, so it's I-40 to Barstow, then Highway 58 to the Central Valley and up I-5 for you. At least, we're cooling the temps off for your visit. Drive safely.

modon69478 05-04-2014 11:12 AM

Sharon, Have you ever made bone broth? Have you ever used to a slow cooker to make it? I've been reading up on it and thought you might have already tried it. You're so much healthier than me !

SuSUN 05-04-2014 03:29 PM

:welcome: BACK Shelia!!! You are looking Great!
Do tell what you have been up to? Enquiring minds...Hah!;)

Love that Doris, need a new horse huh? Does G know about that? ;)

Michele, Love your humour...may the fourth be with you. I worked today so I must have wrote the 4th numerous times. Hah! Good one!

It was a rainy kind of drizzle day up here. The temps are fine though. I was indoors though so it didn't really matter.

Babette, too bad on the Mexican food last night. Did you make it to the Rhodie garden today? I can't wait to start my search for some hardy Hydrangias. Thanks for the info on that.

Mary, Glad to see you are staying out of trouble today. You are a whiz with those highways. Are you a good driver, not afraid of highways and that?

Linda, hope you have a good day 'driving in' where ever that may be.

Waving to ALL and hope to check back later or tomorrow...

mykneesareback 05-04-2014 03:47 PM

Begete, did you go to the garden today, after all? Hope John's cold get's better so he can get out again. At least you had some rain though!!

Mary, we are actually heading down to our "home away from home", Disneyland, tomorrow. And then we head for the Grapevine and take 99 because all of our relatives live off of that one. It's going to be warm there, but I guess not as warm as it was lately. Hope you had a good Sunday.

Michele, did you get all of your scones made? Do you freeze each one, so you can microwave it and it tastes like it came out of the oven?

Linda, hoping you made it to see your Mother and relatives today, without too much stress on your body.

Susan, I think you are working today, hope it goes smoothly for you. Besides the new saddle, I think some of us could also use a new wagon to replace the old one we keep falling out of, and then climbing back on, lol. :D

We are tuckered out from the trip, but that's the way road trips are. dh is napping while I'm trying to catch up with emails and stuff like that. There are so many moving U-Hauls out there, we noticed loads of them, more than any of the other years when we did this trip. Trucks galore. dh saw an "In & Out" near the motel, so stopped there for lunch, big mistake, tons of people, and a bus of Japanese tourists had just gotten there earlier, so almost every seat was taken, and the place is next to an Outlet Center, and on a Sunday, lordy grace, what a pile of people. When they called out your number to pick out the order, you wanted to shout BINGO! lol

Tomorrow, we head for Disneyland, and then on to my mother's town. She is really mixed up now, I just talked on the phone to her, and she asked who was taking care of our kids while we were on a trip?? And whether we should have taken them out of school or not. So we really need to see her and talk face to face.

Take care, gang!!

hi again.
I do not remember where I left off with my life in here.... Let's see, my husband of eight years, fell out in a gas station, sugar dropped . Died, brought back with brain damage. He stroked and lasted a month. My mom had passed a few months before that, and then a month after my husband passed I had to have my chi put to sleep. I had her ten yrs. that is when I started eating. I sat in the nursing home with my sick husband, and really did not care about too much of anything. So I wanted to live by myself, but my son asked if I wanted to move in with them. So I did. I lost weight, went to the gym. Looking good. a few months down the line, remarried. big mistake. Divorced.Started eating again... back with my son. getting or I should say trying to get healthy again. That is about the gist of things as they stand now. I am now a nonny to Two grandsons .. Ethan is a month old. Micah is five.

My daughter has lost close to two hundred pounds. (not low carb) and has moved to Alabama from Fl. I have four granddaughters from her and her husband. 14, twins are 12, em is 9 . I am working the night shift as nonny so my days and nights are mixed up.

Hi to everyone. Glad to see you all. HI to all the oldies. Missed ya. And hi to all the new people..well new to me anyways.

Avatar. I tried changing it but it won't change. That is an old pic. One I do not like too much either. :) I probably won't be on everyday due to sleep or lack there of. But will try to check in. I need motivation.

modon69478 05-04-2014 05:00 PM

Doris, I got all the scones made and, yes, they're in the freezer. By the time I get to work, they will have defrosted and won't need any re-heating.

Still haven't started on the pot stickers - got distracted with a couple of movies. It seems it was international day over here - I watched a movie called 'Haute Cuisine' which was a true story about the chef to France's President Mitterand - it was in French with English subtitles. Then, I watched a movie called 'Train to Lisbon' which took place in Portugal. Both were very good. Truly a relaxing day.

vessel of prayer 05-04-2014 05:02 PM

Doris, hugs.... stay safe

LoveMontana 05-04-2014 05:07 PM

Great to see you back with the old gang, Sheila. My condolences on the loss of your mom and husband. Bummer on the unsuccessful attempt at another marriage..

Hang in there. You can do this.
Changing the Avatar is easy now. Just browse your computer from the "change avatar" page and have fun.

HA! Well I don't know about the healthy part but I have made bone broth with chicken bones in a slow cooker. Here's the recipe I used.

“Healthified” BONE BROTH
4 quarts water (reverse osmosis filtered water is best)
1 Leftover bones and skin from one pasture fed chicken
1 whole clove fresh garlic, peeled & smashed
2 TBS coconut vinegar (or organic apple cider vinegar)

Place the water, chicken, garlic, and vinegar in a large kettle or a large crockpot and set the heat to “high.” Bring to a boil, then reduce the setting to “low” for a soft simmer. Simmer for a minimum of 1 day and up to 3 days. The longer it cooks the more nutrients and minerals!

Strain broth through a colander into a large container; reserve broth and discard skin and bones.

Store in freezer what you don't use.

modon69478 05-04-2014 07:15 PM

Sharon, Thank you so much! Would it be okay if I got a rotisserie chicken from Whole Foods, picked off most of the meat, and used that carcass and skin to make the bone broth?

Begete 05-04-2014 08:12 PM

I didn't go to the garden today. I seem to be coming down with John's cold.

mykneesareback 05-04-2014 09:00 PM

Aw, Begete, I wondered about that happening, hope it stays just a cold and goes away in due time.

Our body clocks are all messed up, so napped earlier, and now wide awake when we should be sleeping soon enough.

I miss Silas, when we walked out of the restaurant, a kid called out "Hey, Nana", and I turned around quickly, like a dope, lol, and even my dh turned to look!!! LOL

I'll start tomorrow's thread in awhile. Thanks for the travel prayers and thoughts, friends.

Shalbrihil 05-05-2014 09:19 AM

That's just fine, Michele. :)
