Defining ourselves by our weight.

I have been pondering why I seem to define myself by my weight instead of the other components of my being. Does anyone else feel like this? I have so many good things going for me but the weight seems to always be in the forefront.

Interesting question, Sherrie, I'll have to ponder it and will definitely get back later. My initial reaction is to say, "No, I didn't define myself by my weight when I was at my highest weight." But I seem to be doing so as I drop the pounds...I frequently mention to others that I've dropped 50 pounds and am working on the next 30. Good issue to think about, thanks for bringing it up.

Whether you define yourself by your weight, (and who made that phrase up?), society will always define us by our weight, and now men are also defined by it, used to be, they got away with it..............it's just the way it is. So don't worry you head about that. And don't read "People" magazine!!

Mary, isn't it funny how the person who begins the thread, doesn't come back, but you and I are posting for each other??

Now that you mention it, I'm doing this, too. Even tho I didn't start out talking about it, when people start noticing, then you start talking about it. And, because of certain other health topics that had already been discussed amongst family, I spent a lot of time talking about things I had read. And I used to never get on the scale and now I do and so this thing that was never a thing is now a thing.

Just recently!

I came back, girls! I think I must be more conscious of the weight since I'm doing something about it. I so get that society thing tho. I think I'll change my self definition to something different. Hmmm, what will it be? Determined!

I have been struggling to get back to a healthy weight this past year of so.
Lots of comfort eating dealing with the stresses of life in the wrong way.

I now realize that I will never be able to get back to my ideal weight so I will readjust my goal weight to a more comfortable but healthy weight range.

Still 20 lbs to go, when ever I can get started.

I'm open to any and all suggestions you may have - I think we just need to start somewhere and do something - we can always tweak our plan as we go.

Frankly, after all these years, I'm weary of looking for a new "lover" ie:eating plan.......I've lost a lot of weight time after time with different plans that I loved, for awhile, but then they get tiresome and sickening and don't satisfy. That is the reason for "repent and repeat" amongst millions of us. We are clearly not the only ones commiserating about this.

Was just thinking about that yesterday. How at a better weight I am affected less by problems that come along and how shallow I must be. In the past would try to convince myself that people and I should accept me no matter what my weight. Finally I had to accept it bothers me and try to change.
