Hi Doris and thanks for the start off again. Hope you had an enjoyable birthday.

Just saving my spot for Friday.

ocali 11-21-2013 08:27 PM

I'm taking this spot.
Susan, I had the same surgery as you have planned many years ago. All went well and I have the scar to prove it.
Verleen, yes, I too want to see pics of your home. It sounds lovely. Doris, waiting for yours, also.
Sorry if I'm repeating myself---this week I went to a singles club dinner at one of our clubhouses. The food was goOd but, unfortunately, didn't agree with my IBS system. The next night went out with one of the groups to a yummy Japanese restaurant. Love the "show" they put on cooking the food. Brought home enough for two more meals.
Had my hair cut really short this week, too. And, am planning to get my eyebrows waxed for the first time ever. I wonder if anyone will notice.
G'nite all. :stars:

Mssarge 11-21-2013 11:13 PM

Saving my spot, too. Julie, I got my eyebrows waxed for the first time last year and no one noticed. I also got my mustache waxed and I certainly noticed that. My SIL used to have a fuzzy caterpillar on her lip and it bugged the heck out of me...so when the hairdresser asked if I wanted my lip waxed, I didn't hesitate. But now I see more hair there than ever before...once started gotta continue. I feel better about both and that's what counts. I hope you enjoy your waxing.

Good Friday Morning. Thanks Doris.

Shrimp are steaming for SuSun- Aaunt loves to drink the juice so I add a little water and use a lid so she has a goodly amount.
Coffee is good but a little stronger than I usually have. Got to buy the Stevia- so odd after so many years of doing it the same way how everything runs out at different times and the coffee taste a little different each day even though I always make it the very same way.
Got to check the shrimps.

Good morning all. Still cloudy and we're expecting even more rain today and our mountains may get over 10 inches of snow and with temps in the 'teens there, they are expecting to be able to open the ski runs this weekend and high winds through the the weekend. This low is slipping south and will be sitting over San Diego today, so we're getting the backside of it with all that brings. How wonderful! Of course those folks that got stuck in the puddles or mud slides yesterday don't feel that way.

Another trip to the family history center again, got a couple more questions to ask of the guru, but I'm getting there. Both my and my DH's line is back at least four generations and now I'm looking for the holes to fill in. I've also learned that when the LDS combined five different programs, no one checked for duplicates, expecting the individual researchers to go into the files and merge the files, so I'm finding lots duplicates The librarian told me my files wasn't too back as I was running across only three or four duplicates for several names...then I cam across one that had 13 duplicates.

Anyway, that's my day and when I come back, it's pick up and clean the front part of the house. I sure miss Nadine coming over weekly. Since her move, she's not able to come over as often. But, the house is not as messy 'cause puppy's gone...I sure miss my fur kids, and so does MeMe, but we're muddlin' through.

Have you put your turkey in the fridge to start thawing? Yesterday was "thaw your bird" day...one day for each four pounds. Of course, I'm no longer cooking the big meals so don't have to do all the stuff associated with it. Thanksgiving will be a DD for me, so I'm pulling my cave in around me but I've had several invitations. Just not up to mixing with anyone this year. Thanksgiving was always family day for me and mine,

Hey, have a great day folks, find something interesting to do today.

p.s. Question for the day...is anyone using Facebook or tweeting? If so, what are the advantages as you see them? I've purposefully stayed away from them, but now that I'm becoming more social, I'm thinking about going on 'em. I know about some of the problems but never thought about the good things, what are they?

Mssarge 11-22-2013 09:18 AM

Meant to ask this question, too. On the anniversary of this moment in time, everyone is asking, "Where were you on 11/22/63?" This is one of those dates that live in your memory. DH and I was playing hookey from work and were still in bed, we learned of this tragedy when I called work. Then we spent the day in front of the TV, totally in shock.

Where were you?

ocali 11-22-2013 09:33 AM

Got my eyebrows waxed! I think they look really good. Now to see if anyone else notices and says something. I'm stocking up for the bunch that will be here next week.

Begete 11-22-2013 09:41 AM

Off to do some grocery shopping. My pumpkin soup turned out way too spicy so I need to add more pumpkin.

I was in last period in high school, French class, when the announcement came on loud speaker. Our Junior prom was supposed to be the next night, but of course was cancelled.

Verleen 11-22-2013 09:44 AM

Mary, it is a day I remember sadly. I was in Civics class when the school announced the shooting over the intercom system. We all got quiet. Then we heard all the church bells tolling.

The whole world grieved.

mykneesareback 11-22-2013 09:45 AM

I was a Junior in high school, history class, suddenly, the intercom came on with Walter Cronkite from the radio and tv, broadcasting that the President was shot, and then later that he died......it was shocking, girls were crying inside and outside, they let school out. I still have the tv guide with all the tv details, such as they were back then, with only 4 tv channels.

On the Facebook thing, the only way to know if you would like Facebook is to go on there and try it out, can't go by other people, you will use it to your own satisfaction. I love it for saying hello to most of the people I know or knew, even back to Kindergarten, and you get quick news and weather from wherever you want it. The bad thing, it's a BIG Time Suck! I don't have the time to sit and check out all the info, too much info is available. I used to think it was invented for elementary school kids or people stuck in a hospital or some such thing. But go on it, test it out, if you don't like it, just close your account, no big deal, you don't have to pay for it, lol.

Off to get chores worked on.

I won't ever Twitt, know point in telling everyone that I just blew my nose or something useless, ;).

Norfolk Mermaid 11-22-2013 10:25 AM

Kennedy death!

Medical Secretary (only one for 35 interns and residents) in the med. records library at Norf. general Hospital- Our boss wheeled in one of the "hospice TVs" that get rented to the patients rooms and we watched till we closed at 5: pm. There was nothing but dirge music on all radio and most tv channels- some tv did a few news cast. This went on for days and days- very, very depressing after a little while and the alcohol stores had massive lines (Va. a dry state then)
Gotta go to the store for that final TURKEY ticket for the free turkey- haft to spend 40.00 bucks each time which I can do in a heart beat.

Doug_H 11-22-2013 10:58 AM

I was in the navy stationed aboard the "USS Joseph P. Kennedy JR" in Newport, RI.
The ship was named after the president's older brother that was killed during WWII.

I was in 2nd grade at University of Chicago Lab School. We were watching a film about open heart surgery when the teacher cut it off abruptly. Very strange juxtaposition.

Loretta V 11-22-2013 12:51 PM

WTG Julie on the eyebrow waxing. I have nothing there to remove, they are just about gone except for a few strays.

I was working in surgery when the word about JFK came thru. I was pregnant at the time. My big concern was that Russia was going to attack us while we were without a leader.

Mssarge 11-22-2013 12:54 PM

Thank you for sharing your stories. There are/will be always events that are etched in our memories and it's good to hear where you were when you got this news. I'm thinking I'll watch the HBO special (which I recorded so I could watch it tonight) "Killing Kennedy" and it's companion special.

You're right, Doris, You never know if you'll like something until you try it yourself...I was wondering if anyone had experienced any major problems with Facebook, other than being a time sink. I've heard horror stories, probably from the early days. One day soon I'll probably sign on, we'll see.

How's your day going? By me was a quick trip to the family history center, learned a few things. Then, a quick stop at the marketo for milk (I hate going on my DD as I see stuff and since I'm hungry, I fall into the trap), picked up some ground beef which was half price to make some chili con carne (thought it would go well with a cool, wet weather.) It's simmering as I write, and smells so good. We're expecting another rain surge this afternoon, about the time I've got to run to the pharmacy to pick up a 'script...oh well.

LoveMontana 11-22-2013 03:22 PM

On that horrible day, I was in Calculus class at Cornell University Classes were let out so I went home to check the TV news. Back t hen my little TV was a black and white 13 inch.

As for facebook, it's OK but can take up far too much time. Been backing off lately and thinking of backing off even more...

SuSUN 11-22-2013 04:58 PM

Yes, our TV was like that too Linda,

Mary, I heard on BBC in England with my parents. Then of course they played over and over the events. A tragic day for sure and yes the world grieved as Verleen said.
I was still in highschool wondering what was happening to the world as we knew it before.

Julie, glad to hear that you got your eyebrows waxed. It is a little indulgence just for us. I find that I notice and that is the main thing.

Mary, re FB, Doris is right it is a time consumer. I go on every couple of days. I can't sit there scrolling down to read everything that everyone shares but you do see some good things on there.
Trouble is I don't know the married names of girls I went to school with back in the UK so there maiden name doesn't work. So some people don't want to be found either and give themselves a funny name. All in all, it is another fun thing to entertain us.

Waving to All and Hope to BBT...

modon69478 11-22-2013 05:43 PM

Doris, Did you have any freezing weather up there? It was in the 30s all day here, a little bit of sleet on the way home. Boy, traffic was even slower than usual tonight - it took 1.5 hours - at least I got home safely! I had to try and find the defroster in the car.... I forgot where it was! Ha, Ha!

Waving to all,
Michele

mykneesareback 11-22-2013 06:13 PM

We had sleet this evening, and son said it took 25 min. longer to drive home, he gets off work at 7 pm, and that was then the temps hit that weird point with the ice and sleet. I wondered about your area, too. We had been paying attention the the weather dudes, this sleet business bothers me more than any pending snow, at least in snow, you are usually ok if you go slow, with ice, doesn't matter what you do, and my dh said there were signs everywhere when he went to the bank this morning, warning of speeding. Heard sirens several times today, all from the one main road near us. Bummer! The doctors here warned us about the ice, we thought it was unusual for them to mention it several times, during the summer already :) .
Do they spread sand around in Austin and the outskirts, too, or that spray that doesn't let the moisture freeze?

birdlady 11-22-2013 06:30 PM

Been off with puter trouble, tried everthing we knew.DD fixed it in a split second.lol
That day DD age 1.5 and I were going to the fabric store,we also watched the whole thing. That room was never so clean,as I cleaned while watching.

Had a nice crab dinner tonight and won over a grand,C. nothing. We never win at the same time.Fixed----

Got to go back and see what you guys were up to.

C.'s brother had his surgery today, they had to remove some of his top teeth and part of his palate .Really don't know all as some gets lost in the re-tell.

BBT

mykneesareback 11-22-2013 06:36 PM

Oh my, Gladys, that surgery on your brother in law sounds very painful, I wish him well, and hopefully they give him plenty of pain relievers........

Congrats on winning again at the casino, lol, my oh my, you and your husband are the luckiest gambling people I have ever met or "sorta know", lol. And at least you have fun with your money, and don't have to drive far to do it. :)

Joplin38 11-22-2013 07:11 PM

Hi everyone.

I was in the pediatric clinic in 29 Palms, California. My husband was in the Marine corps and I wondered what would happen to the troops as a result of the assassination. What a shock as I stood at the counter checking out with my baby girl.

LoveMontana 11-22-2013 07:19 PM

:hiya: Janie. So great to see you. :hugs: How have you been and what have you been up to lately?

modon69478 11-22-2013 07:39 PM

Doris, I don't know remember what they put down for ice - it's been such a long time! :D

LoveMontana 11-22-2013 07:50 PM

Here in NY they use salt and sand on our roads after the plows go in and take care of most of it.;)
