Some thoughts on aging:

You miss the days when everything worked with just an "ON" and "OFF" switch.

Now you have to program about everything, even your coffee pot.

Have a good week folks.

modon69478 10-27-2013 07:55 AM

Loretta - thanks for starting another week's thread - I sure enjoy you!

Sunday's plan:

B: 1/2 apple w/tahini & Super Fake honey, coffee
snack: cheddar stick
L: (Out) ??
D: Parmesan fried eggplant, wilted spinach, diet tonic
snack: SF jello w/squirt wh crm

LoveMontana 10-27-2013 08:46 AM

LOL Loretta, that is so true. Fortunately some of us have saved our old coffee pots and other things that don't need programing.

Been MIA for several weeks but am still walking about two hours daily and doing either wall push ups or hand weights.

On my way today to the Glen to walk.

mykneesareback 10-27-2013 09:32 AM

Linda, if I ever visited you, the first place I'd want to go is your Glen!!!

Michele, you are right, it's the malitol stuff that bothers dh!!

Loretta, I wondered if you were moving, when you mentioned putting your dining set into co-signment. I hope you get some good money for it.

Yes, I still have our old Penney's brand electric percolator, it still works, whenever the Mr. Coffee breaks or we break the pot that comes with it.

Shalbrihil 10-27-2013 10:54 AM

Loretta thanks for starting us going.
Looks like a lake park walk is happening for today if I can get my hind end out of this chair. Overcast makes for a nice workout.

Plan on making some type of soup for a light lunch and dinner will be salmon with kale and salad.

Loretta moving? I hope you have help in moving the heavy stuff. ;)

LoveMontana 10-27-2013 05:19 PM

Come visit anytime, Doris. I'll take you there. It is spectacularly beautiful all year.

Anyway, got some egg salad at Tops and had that with cantaloupe cubes and coffee in the parking lot of the Glen.:hyst:

Dinner was left over meat balls and sausage with steamed broccoli. Coffee.

Made some SF chocolate mousse for later.

PM Chardonnay tonight.

mykneesareback 10-27-2013 07:25 PM

Sounds like a picnic in October to me, Linda, lol. Where do your cantaloupes come from, Mexico?? I suddenly haven't seen any here, was looking for some for dh.

This is the one we used to make quite often.

•1 cup flax seed meal
•1/3 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
•1 and 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
•1/2 teaspoon salt
•1/2 cup water

Heat oven to 400 F.

1) Mix all ingredients together.

2) Spoon onto sheet pan which is covered with a silicone mat or greased parchment paper.

3) Cover the mixture with a piece of parchment or waxed paper. Even out the mixture to about 1/8 inch. I find a straight edge, like a ruler, works well, though you can use a rolling pin or wine bottle too. The important thing is not to let it be too thin around the edges or that part will overcook before the center firms up. So after you spread it out, remove the paper and go around the edges with your finger and push the thin part inwards to even it up.

4) Bake until the center is no longer soft, about 15-18 minutes. If it starts to get more than a little brown around the edges, remove from oven. Let cool completely - it will continue to crisp up.

5) Break into pieces.

The whole recipe is 6 grams of effective carbohydrate plus 35 grams of fiber.

Grammy G 10-27-2013 10:36 PM

Yum! I can't have dairy but I have some 'fake' cheese I could use instead. Thank you so much for sharing! I'll be trying these soon!

Do you know how said the quote that you have listed on your signature? I believe it was Jim Elliot?

Loretta V 10-28-2013 08:40 AM

My friend John has a drip-o-later that you put on the gas stove and pour the water through the grounds. It really makes good coffee. It just takes a while to get the water boiling in the kettle.

Sunday: coffee
Brunch: egg, 1 slice bacon, skinny round
banana w pb
Pizza, wine
Snack: peanut butter rice krispie square, CF diet soda

Monday: coffee
Brunch: lc pumpkin bar
6:00: not sure, left overs most likely and salad, wine
Snack: peanuts, CF diet soda

Yes, moving to be with my friend John. Neither one of us wants another marriage so we will go it this way. Putting most of my things in storage for now.

mykneesareback 10-28-2013 10:03 AM

Good for you, Loretta, glad you are happy!

We have a Melitta coffee "thing" that you put grounds in, and boil water, pour on top of the filter "thing" you set over the pot, my mother used to do that on the weekends when we had time to sit and wait awhile for coffee. I don't know why I don't use it, nothing wrong with it :dunno:

Monday's foods

B: cut up yellow squash, garlic, mushrooms, cauliflower, sautéed. 1/2 cup egg subs. hot salt, flaxmeal. several black coffees

L: H/B eggs, grape tomatoes, and black olives

Snack: iced coffee

D: going out with the kids to Cotton Patch, $6.99 dinner special on Monday's.

Evening snack: cutup strawberries and Italian ice, lemon flavor, iced coffee

mykneesareback 10-28-2013 07:25 PM

I had grilled tilapia at the Café, and iced tea, broccoli and cheese rice mix, and green salad served in little bowls, lol. It was fun, had a lot of laughs because of Silas at the table.

Mssarge 10-28-2013 07:26 PM

Monday's Eats DD
I also have a Melitta which I no longer use. Mine is a small one for a one cupper; I used to keep one at my brother's place as they drank only instant which I hate. I only drank instant when I was in the Army, and we were "downrange."

Thanks for posting the flax cracker recipe. I'm too lazy for that and get Mary's Gone Crackers at my local nutrition center.

coffee, coffee, coffee...until 3 p.m when I tried a new recipe from the book 5:2 Diet Microwave Cookbook by Bridges and Sharp...Feel Full Oatmeal cookie. I'll post the recipe if anyone's interested in a quick oatmeal patty....really good for

140 kcals and very filling. Uses 1/4 cup oats and only 2 teaspoons flour (I used almond flour)

S. small salad and a bowl of gumbo which went well on this cloudy, cool day.

total 500 kcals

mykneesareback 10-28-2013 07:31 PM

Isn't that funny, Mary, how we have these "things" but don't use them?? We loved the strong coffee when my mother used the Melitta, have the special filters and stuff, but I don't use it, keep it in a cabinet in the china buffet. Also have a coffee pot and parts all made out of glass, you basically cook the water and it drips upwards and then down, fun to watch, we don't use that, either, but it made it all the way to Texas, lol. Bet you took a lot of different things with you when you travelled and moved all over while in the service!!! ;)

Shalbrihil 10-28-2013 07:34 PM

Breakfast was flax chia hot cereal with coffee and sprinkle of dried cranberries.

Lunch was left over broccoli soup that I made yesterday and hard boiled egg

Snack was strawberries and some coconut butter

Dinner was pancakes. Needed some carbs I guess. :)

LoveMontana 10-28-2013 07:44 PM

Grammy, you are very welcome. Hope you can adapt them to non dairy.

The Quote " one has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws" was ML King. Letter from Birmingham Jail - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Brunch: Cheese egg, lental soup and coffee

Dinner: turkey leg, Brussel sprouts with butter, coffee.

Chardonnay tonight.

Grammy G 10-28-2013 10:03 PM

The quote,"WHEREVER YOU ARE - BE ALL THERE! " is the one I was thinking of. :-) I think Jim Elliot was known for that quote.

LoveMontana 10-28-2013 10:09 PM

Oh I see. That was a quote that one of our deceased members,Barb, shared with us.

Mssarge 10-28-2013 10:47 PM

It was amazing, Doris, the stuff we hauled around. When we went in, we traveled to Colorado with all our wordly belongings in the trunk of the car and a car-top carrier...when we got out, we had two moving vans loaded...mine from Fort Irwin, his from L.A. When we got it all in one place, we had double everything and a house and garage packed to the gills. And yep, I even had the pyrex coffee pot, the Melitta, and by that time, we were using the Mr. Coffee.

Still dripping outside, had a magic pop, laughing cow cheese (cinnamon) and a cup of lite Swiss Miss....the Keurig is good for that, too. for another 75 kcals.

Come to think of it, I now have two Mr. Coffees (one in the RV and one in the garage), the Melitta, and two Keurig's (one in the kitchen and one for the RV) Sigh!

mykneesareback 10-29-2013 11:23 AM

Oh yeah, Mary, I can imagine it, lol. I'm digging out the Melitta set, if mother in law visits, she drinks coffee morning, noon, and night, same as we do. Our kids and their wives don't drink coffee, so that probably explains why I don't use those things, back in the early days, all the relatives came to our house in San Jose, and it was all of them that drank all the coffee. Still have one of those 40 cup percolators, where you twist a lever to pour your own cup, from those days long ago.
