MONDAY'S Roll Call, Oct. 21

Beginning of another week, Fall colors must be popping out almost everywhere by now, there are some maple trees here looking good in the neighborhood.

Have a good night's rest, see you Monday AM, at some point

I really miss the fall colors of New England out here, Doris. It's pretty, but there is nothing comparable to Vermont and NH and northern NY.

Never got to meet Ann Rule today. She had a medical emergency and cancelled her appearance.

Fall is still holding its breath here.

Won't be long now but there are always fall colors through Thanksgiving so they last quite a while here in Va.

We have a couple of maple trees in our back yard. Love when they turn colors.

Fall colors peaked a few days ago and it's starting to get pretty dull around here

The colors here in Ky are just starting to change. I love to see their reflections in the water. Love this time of year.

Good morning All! almost 7:30 here now-been daylight here for a bit. There is still a big old lop sided moon hanging in the morning sky.

It's a Costco shopping day for us today. Sometimes I walk the dogs over from the house but think I'll just use the cart to lean on and make the store my walking path today. Don't want to push it as I've been able to walk each day without a hitch. Knock on wood.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning all...slept in a bit so rising, and shining.

You might remember my rant recently about how I miss the fall colors here... leaves just turn brown then drop in SoCal, but I do have the French Silk tree to let me know it's Autumn....

Hope you have a great day

Those trees are just gorgeous, Mary! We had a pink one in the backyard in San Jose, lovely, but a big mess to clean up, I know the people that bought the house tore it out, right away, and they removed some apple trees, too.

One next door neighbor's crepe myrtle has lost most of it's leaves already, but the others are still hanging on.

It is grey and cooler here this AM, wind supposed to come again this afternoon, looks sort of like Fall now. But not like back in the mountains where we lived before, I'd like to see our very old Oak tree, it turned all kinds of variations of yellow, touch of gold, red, and then brown, and then the mess of leaves on the grass.

Doing laundry, putting summer clothes away and digging out socks, can't remember where I hid them when we moved in. In some drawer.

hugs to you all,

The weather here is so odd, to us. Completely grey, 70 degrees, but from the inside of the house, it looks like it could be cold, jacket weather. Then, you step outside, and it's warm, people still walk by in shorts and flip flops, lol. We must be looking odd to other people, with shoes and socks on, lol. dh just grabbed a jacket, for later on, just in case it rains, but the weather guy says he doesn't think we will get a thing out of this.

Have a pleasant evening, my mother in law is having a knee replacement tomorrow morning, she is 85, so we hope for the best, since she is slated to come out here for Christmas.

ood Afternoon all.

Mary Anne and I went to see 3D "Gravity" and loved it! The filming and special effects were amazing. Everyone should see that movie. Sandra should get the oscar for that film- what a great actress. Cloony was no slouch either. Have not been to a movie theater in over 10 years.
Funny thing- no headache while in the dark movie but the minute I hit the sunlight outside I was hurting bad... hmmm- that says migraine but the meds she Rxed me for that did nothing at all so I have not taken them. I'm still going with sinuses but sure thinking of calling for a appt. I am sick of it!
Looking forward to my little tv playlets toniht. Oh, I watched PBS Paradise last night and one show and I am hooked. Anyone else in to that one? I saw the one where the main sales lady has a birthday party. PBS is just so very good.

Hi all-

Just checking in. I made gingered pear preserves today and am steeping mint to make mint jelly. Just doing the "juice" for that tonight and plan to make the jelly tomorrow. I don't love it, but I'm thinking of giving it for Christmas gifts.

I grew up with mint jelly as a side for lamb. The crazy thing was that nobody could wreck a leg of lamb like my mother. She typed my father's papers when he was in graduate school (biochemistry) and never forgot his "parasitology" papers. Thereafter she cooked the h*ll out of any meat you can think of. And yet, in a restaurant, she would order her steak medium rare. Go figure.

All of our leaves have turned and many have fallen and we'll have our first frost on Wednesday night. I need to replenish my supply of white turtlenecks - my winter uniform under-layer. My sister lives in Seattle and she can't wear cotton in the winter - says it's too damp and cold - so she swears by fleece and wool. I love fleece tops but they can get too warm for me indoors.

Not too much else to report. I'm hoping to get down to NYC on Thursday or Friday. No special reason beyond mental stimulation. The boonies get to me after awhile and I need a break.

Have any of you with a green thumb grown herbs from cuttings? My sage plant got overrun with mint and I'd like to try starting a new one from fresh sage from the grocery since I can't find herb plants anywhere in this season. Would also like to start a rosemary plant in the same fashion. Just wondered if any of you had tried it.

Last but not least, I cannot find a decent source for houseplants around here. I need to go to Scarsdale NY to a nursery there, or else into NYC. You'd think something that straightforward would be readily available. Ah well.

Hope you all have had a pleasant day and will try to chime in tomorrow.

-Louise
