EXERCISE WEEK, Sept. 15 - Sept. 21

Let's Have Another Go At It, Friends!

Do what you can, think up something different, but walking backwards isn't cut out for me Remember back in 2007, some "expert" said to walk backwards and your weight would come off faster?

Wishing a great week for ALL of us!

Not going backwards here either Doris. Got enough problem with forward propulsion.

Nothing for today.

Hah! Doris, I wonder if we walk sidewards if that will help "spot reduce". Hah!

Walked DD's dog with the pet sitter for an hour this aft.

Walked my doggie for 20 mins on the bike path.

Susan, that's one good thing about having a doggie, need their "walkies" everyday, and they can't do it alone! Did the pet sitter enjoy the company, could you chit chat?

See you all tomorrow!

Early walk in cooler temps, 64║ this am. Lovely. Listening to a book on my mp3 player when I walk sure helps pass the time. I download to my computer from the library and then put them on my player.

Nice to have cooler temps in the morning, Loretta. One of these days, it will happen to most of us.

I haven't done a thing yet, but will in the evening. The doctor says I have an inflamed Achilles tendon, so he ordered some special cream to be made and sent to me to use 3 times a day to get the inflammation down. Then I have special foot stretching exercises to day, especially before getting out of bed. Some other exercises that I can do while just being around the house. Have to see him in 3 weeks, if this doesn't help, then it's the "boot" next. And that's that. They told me not to use the exercise bike yet, because it affects the tendon and won't let it heal.

That's that for today. We plan to stay home for a few days. No walking all over the place.

Yes, Doris, I was able to chit chat with the pet sitter on our walk. He is an older gay man. He used to be a Butler in a huge home when he was younger. Sounds an interesting life. His father just died two weeks ago and he was quite elderly. He lives with his mother and has for a number of years. I got the whole story on our walk. Hah! Makes life interesting huh?

Walked the dog on the bike path x 2 today as the weather is heavenly.

Arm and Shoulder routine with 5lb weights

Hand n wrist strengthening exercises

Waist twists

We left after 1:30 for dh's doctor appt. and that took a long time! The place was full of old people, (including us, of course), and some came in without an appt. but they came too late, no room to squeeze them in. After 3, we went to Tom Thumb, needed groceries, and dh had a prescription so thought we would try the pharmacy there, but they didn't have the med, said it would take until Friday to get.........so dh walked across the street to Walgreens, while I shopped. Walgreens was like East Berlin, needed to show ID, several health cards, they had to call the doctor's office, and on and on, and we still can only pick up the pills tomorrow. Just think if a patient was in real pain, and had to wait overnight? Also, the Dr. didn't put the mg. on the prescription, so dh had to drive back to the office to get that done. The whole time, I was walking all over that store, finding things I'd been looking for since we moved here, lol.

See you tomorrow.

Well at least you have a diagnosis Doris. You probably need to stay off that foot and put it up for a while. Hope that cream helps.

Walk for 1 hour, forgot pedometer. Did my arms but not lower exercises yet. Will get to them shortly.

Jack LaLanne chair exercises, should be safe enough.
Weight bar while sitting, and the foot exercises using the kitchen counter and wall.

Doing exercises against the bed, the wall, the kitchen counters, lol. Trying 10 lb. weight, and stepping high on a step, and hanging the heel off.....

Gently does it Doris on that heel hanging.

I too have been doing my physiotherapy exercises daily for my knee.
PT suspects medial meniscus tear.
I ice it 3x day and exercises 3x day, 60 reps each session.

I have continued walking the dog daily so a little bit of movement too.

I hope your therapy works, slow healing for something like that, from what I hear from others, Susan. Just can run around like we used to! Do you notice improvement though?

Doing the chair exercises, and 6 lb. weights today, going to try to put it up for awhile later on, see if that helps.

No great improvement yet Doris but these soft tissue injuries are very slow healing. I guess we just have to have patience.

Patience is hard to come by

Did the Jack LaLanne's and did the foot exercise right after, so I could roll on that stuff that they told me to buy yesterday. Actually seems to help.

Kitchen counter push ups, bathroom counter pushups, very low counter in there. Weight bar and that's it for today.

Susan, walking to that lighthouse must be quite the jaunt!! We have done that on rare occasion and the stairs are weird, lol.

Loretta, do you wear special clothing when you walk early in the morning, like yellow vest or something like that?

Walk in some nice cool weather this am, almost needed a sweater.

The road that I walk is seldom traveled Doris. It is a road to one our local resorts. I have started driving there because it is off of a highway. It is close to the house and only takes about 3 min to get there.

Exercise workout upper and lower body. Never did get around to doing it yesterday.

Did the back alley walk, lots of different birds out now, still don't have a book to determine what kind though. Not a soul was out or looked like they were even up, must have slept in, due to cool morning.

Doing the foot exercises faithfully, and kitchen counter ones. No weights today.

I tried to get out for a walk with the dog. I was all dressed for the rain, he declined on the front step. I guess he has gained some wisdom in his old age huh?

I have done my physio exercises and today I can actually feel the benefit. Yeah!
Finally it is on the mend. Pretty soon I will be able to say, My Knee is Back! Doris.

Plan to do my arm and shoulder routine and anything else that I can manage to slip in there.

Any results from your foot exercises yet Doris?
No stairs in the lighthouse. It is just a small one for the sailors to guide the sail boats. It is about a mile to walk up to it and then we walk back into the park.

Loretta, What resort is that near by to you where you walk? Sounds handy for you.
