Conundrum o'the day
In these modern days when purveyors of foods are reducing the size of their packaging in order to not increase prices, coffee for example one pound cans are now 13 ounces and the two pound cans are 30.8 ounces...why are sugar and flour still sold in five pound bags? just curious....

That is a very good question. However, the last time I bought sugar (about a month ago), it was in a 4 lb bag! I remember remarking on it at the time. Grrr!

Our local store brand coffee now comes in 27.8 oz can. When I'm in NYC, I stop at a coffee store where you can buy by the (real) pound. It doesn't seem so expensive any more.

presumably either the cost to manufacture has not gone up like some products and/or people are willing to pay whatever increase in price the sugar bears. what would they do without it?

Costco still sells coffee in 3 lb cans!

I've noticed the 4 lb. bags of sugar in the past 2 yrs., only because I buy a lot of sugar for the hummingbirds, but flour I only noticed 4 lb. bags last December buying for Christmas baking. Not surprised at what the manufacturers come up with, cookies that used to have 20 per pack, suddenly have fillers and 10 cookies. It's just the way it is in the western world.........
