Good Sunday morning everyone.

Awww, all those people loving their doggies.
Well, I figure today is about day 7 of the worst cold I remember having ever. Course this is the first cold I have had at 70 yrs old as well. Much better today but still going to lay low.
Hoping for the best for all else having health problems.

A stormy night. Lots of rain and thunder. The pets stayed upset all night. So not much sleep here. DD is coming to lend a hand at trying to fix the wall oven. Sure hope I can get a year or so out of it and not have to buy one right now. whew.

Everyone feel better and have a good Sunday.

Good morning all-

Have been lurking but not posting. Surgical recovery is going nicely. I am more mobile than I expected and only needing the prescription pain meds at night, but I do fatigue easily. Am walking in the house and a wee bit outside. Tomorrow I'll see the surgeon and get my staples (all 40 of them) out.

I gained 9 lbs post op (water weight, I guess) and have since lost 19 lbs, so am 10 lbs below pre-op weight. Trying to eat healthy for healing and to keep the digestive system running smoothly. So far, so good.

Verleen, what a godsend that meal delivery will be! Thanks to whoever found it - sorry I'm too lazy to go back and look - but am very grateful to you! I'm thinking of trying it as there will be a point in future when both Bob and I are receiving chemo at the same time and I very much doubt either of us will be up to cooking.

Bob has been a trooper, by the way. He had his second chemo treatment last week and is feeling pretty good over all. He has been so helpful and kind during my recovery. I am blessed.

Doing some knitting and reading. May do some sewing later if my energy holds up.

Have a lovely Sunday (or Palm Sunday to those who observe it).

xo,

-Louise

Louise, its good to hear from you. It was Michele who was so kind to find the meal delivery place for us. They make them healthy as they can. No salt, MSG, other preservatives, etc. They season with herbs and spices. I figure I can always add salt. The meals on their web site look so good.

I've been chronically low on sodium and the dr wants me to use more salt on my food. I've always used so little salt. One dr says 'no salt' and another says 'salt it!' They got on the phone with each other and had a fight. It seems my cardiologist has been on the phone fighting with a number of my doctors. My gp told him, 'what good is your no salt advice when it puts her into ICU?' My gp told him to use some common sense. My infectious disease dr hung up on him. My cardiologist can't accept my prognosis from the other drs. I saw him the other day and had to kindly rope him in. I've never had a dr like him before. He calls me every couple of days to see how I'm feeling.

Howdy to everyone. Its a Sunday paper day. I'm getting a cup of tea and read the paper. Have a good one.

Good morning. So good to hear from both Louise and Verleen. Glad you both and Louise's Bob are are feeling a bit better.

Lainey - you hit the nail on the head. This was the worst cold/flu/cough I ever had (even worse than the pneumonia I had last year) and I am 65. I also have been wondering if the viruses/bacteria that caused this one are more virulent than the usual or whether our age makes them hit us harder. During the first week of this one, I was sleeping 20 out of every 24 hours I was so weak.

Thanx for starting us off Michele. I keep meaning to ask what kind of dog you have - your avatar? it is beautiful.

Anne - I hope your daughter is able to help with the oven.

Today is restart day so I have edited my progfile accordingly. The only prep I have done was to make deviled eggs yesterday and shop. Since we will be having a few days without rain, am hoping to get some gardening done today.

Have a good one.

Thanks for the start off with that great picture of the doggie walk, Michelle. What fun that must have been.

Oh Louise, so happy to hear your healing is progressing well. Once those staples are out you will feel much better.
Happy to hear Bob is doing well too and is a help to you.

Anne, Hopefully your DD can get that oven working for you. Try to catch a nap later.

Wow Lainey, it's totally amazing that you have never had a cold before this one. Count your blessings. It will be over in about another week.

Verleen, my sodium is low too and my doctor said eat more salt. It just doesn't "sit" well with the low sodium brain washed doctors. That cardiologist sounds like a winner. You are fortunate.

Doing nothing again today and will go in for the Orbital floor implant under a local anesthetic with no sedation tomorrow. Hopefully I won't have to fight with hospital staff about that. I'm not really in the mood.
Off to try to get the rest of the blood out of my hair.

Good morning all...glad to hear that most are starting to feel better and are healing well. And good to hear from our lurkers, hope it continues to go well for you. Anne, keeping you in my heart, too, for your surgery, good luck, and my hat's off for the no anesthesia.

Many, many years ago my DH passed out while driving his car and was taken to the hospital. At that time, four doctors had to agree on a diagnosis before surgery could be performed. Three doc's said it was appendicitis, one disagreed and said it was a sodium deficiency so they put me on a saline drip overnight and released him in the morning...telling him to add more salt at the table and that he was to watch it. He took that to heart and also heavily salted his food. Then, when he developed kidney problems, it was go into the low salt mode....of course, no one had been checking his kidney function for all those years. Bottom line is to just make sure the kidney function tests are being run if you add more salt into your diet.

There is just so much salt in prepared foods, canned and boxed, but if you're eating "clean" with all the fresh fruits and veggies, you may have to add salt...good luck., it's hard to be in the middle of doctors disagreeing..just stick to your guns.

Time to feed the fur kids and do the crossword puzzle...have a great day everyone and do something good for yourself today.

Oh Linda, I have had colds & flu before but not at the age of 70 years old. They were always seldom skipping two or three years at a time.... BUT this one was very much like the "Hong Kong Flu" of the fifties- I think I was 13 or 14 yrs old and near bout died!
Linda, good luck tomorrow- I'll be thinking of you.

Wow, just saw the snow blowing in the midwest...Kansas City, to be exact...a foot this late in the year...hope you in the path of it are taking care. extra good vibes going out to them.

Lainey, I've heard this bug going around this year has been a doozey...I always figure at least nine days with cold...three days coming (scratchy throat, general malaise), three days having (staying in bed and just not able to do anything), and three days going (stuffy nose, sneezing, coughing). And with a really bad one, the cough lingers

Hello everyone,
It's been a while since I popped in. I have a hard time going to a new thread everyday. I forget because there are no reminders.

DH had to have a catscan and was knocked out while they went into his stomach. I can't remember what it is called. But they said the pylori he had last year is gone. But the cyst on his pancreas is slightly different and they couldn't do a biopsy since it was on the far edge of the pancreas. They are going to remove it. Next he has to see the surgeon then schedule the surgery. Hopefully, it is just a cyst and nothing more.

I am also seeing a surgeon this Friday to schedule my neck and face lift. It is the neck that bothers me the most after losing so much weight, it didn't bounce back like a 20 something. I have been saving for 7 years to have this and the arms/breast next fall or spring '14. I hope to get it done in the next few weeks. So we might both be on the mend at the same time but getting it done in two different hospitals.

My son and his wife found a house they want to buy. The rental they were in turns out to have had asbestos in the linoleum in the kitchen. So they are breaking the lease and asking for the last month's rent and security deposit back. If they don't get it, they will take the landlord to small claims court since the guy knew there was asbestos in the kitchen and didn't disclose it. He could have had it repaired first before they moved in.

DD is surviving college, her first semester at age 34.

My food plan is okay and the weight is still coming off a pound at a time. I think I am almost at goal since it is the upper end of the healthy weight range. How do you know you're there? Is it you just stop losing? Or accept the point you're at give ir take a few pounds? I am shooting for 150-155. We'll see where God wants me to be.

Wishing everyone health and happiness in this new year. Sorry to hear about the colds and surgeries. I hope it is not serious for any of you. Take care.

Hey Double M, good to see you drop by and that goal is in sight. I, of course, have never been there so no recommendations. I would think you just continue what you're doing and the weight will balance itself. Good to see that someone is progressing so well.

Quiet day here in the Southland..hope you all had a great day and good things came your way.

Good evening all. Hope you had a good day. My grandson came and spent the might with me last night, but he did not give me any trouble. We went to bed early and got up at 7:00. He got on computer while I cooked breakfast. Just like having a man in the house again. He ate the eggs and left the bacon. When I told his mom, she said he always told her he did not like eggs. Kids are strange. We went to church with my daughter and her inlaws. Her husband works every other Sunday. He works at the prison. Had a nice day. Came back and watched the "life of Pi" video. I did not think it would be any good but the more I watched it, the more I liked it.

Good to see Verleen and Louise back again. Hope you continue to enjoy good health going forward. Blessings on you and your doctors for your procedure tomorrow Linda. I would not have thought it would be under local anestesia. But I have had a couple of root canals and no problem with them. Everybody scared me so much but it was nothing for me and I am a scardey cat. I dont like doctors one bit but have to rely on them for some things. Have to go to ob-gyn every 3 months.

We are cold and raining today also. Atleast it is not snow, and low only in upper 30's but high was only in low 40's. Where is this spring of which we have heard?

Michelle, are you anywhere near Bruceville Tx? I have an aunt there.

Mary, do you go to the casinos much. I want to go to one one day. The only one I have been to was in the carribean and that was back in 2003. I went to the one with the big aquarium under it. We were going to the aquarium but never found it so we just stopped and played the machines a little while. I won a cruise from a Miami hotel when i worked with a major Hotel company.

Lainey, hope you feel better soon. When I quit smoking, I got pneumonia for the 1st time in my life. But then I got better and was not bothered with even a cold for years. Now I have passed 60 and I seem to get more maladies but most of them dont last very long.

Begete what style eating will you be restarting? I am doing Atkins at the moment. I think after Tuesday weigh in, I might change my diet to another one. My doctor says low fat, my guy at work likes Atkins. So maybe I can just switch back and forth. But I think for my age, the Atkins really works better for the dry skin problem. But I miss milk. And have to take calcium since I have osteoporosis.

Anne did your daughter fix the oven? My daughter and my friends daughter are both good at things like that.

Guess I better go get something to drink and maybe take my sleeping pill. Then I can get up and get a start on the new week. Easter is only a week away and my family will gather at my daughters. I look forward to it. Have a good night.

Hello, just checking in.

Was so cold today, they had snow in Amarillo, fierce, nasty wind, the whole way to Tucumcari. It's going to be 14 degrees by morning.

Glad to see Louise posting again. Wishing Linda well for tomorrow's challenges. Hang tough, Lainey.

We will most likely keep the land line, at least until we are settled in for awhile, son says we need it for our system unless we suddenly change it.

Verleen, my mother had to go to the ER countless times until the doctor's figured out she needed more sodium, at the senior places she has lived in for years, they don't salt the foods, so she is required to salt hers. Hope you get good care from the doctor that says to salt some foods.

Good Night, friends.
