Good morning ladies.

Lainey I am sorry for you problems with the jeep. Will keep you in prayer. Cars are no fun. But a necessary evil. Especially the gas lately. Ours has gone up 30 cents a gal in the last week. My bro works for one of the companies and says no sense in it, cause oil prices going down. But what do we do about it? Most of us no longer live in towns.

Today is my only granddaughters 11th birthday. She weighed 3 lb 11 oz. She was born 1 year and 2 days after her sister was presented doa. She had a hard start but only in hospital a week and when she took hold to this world, she took off. She is very smart and very pretty and I am very proud of her. She will be in the circus presentation at the community college next month. A county wide review put on by the kids.

I actually got to sleep a couple hours on the couch last night before knee woke up screaming. Then back to the recliner. But I am a lot better.

Have a good day and blessings on one and all.. evon

First day on this board since I restarted low carb 8 days ago. My 57th b-day is Monday. So far I barely lost one pound--but it is not so much for the weight this time around--but to change my lifestyle and this will be a gradual process. I have not had one iota of sugar or wheat. Usually love to indulge on my birthday but this year truly believe I will be able to avoid that. \
OH BOY I am craving for a slice of toast, however....and never know what to have for lunch. In fact I have bkft. and dinner but seem to pick in between. I cannot deal with salads for lunch all the time.W/o bread.starches not sure what to do. I am thinking to add some small amounts of wheat free/gluten free grains but that defeats the purpose of low carb?
I would write more to your posts but being new to this not sure what to say...other than my 22 y/o daughter was extremely premature and she is doing fantastically --a biochem--major now!
Have a wonderful day!

bobelink... I have the same problem. I turned 58 last Dec and I could not loose anything...Da$% this menapause! :stars:
I LOVE  carbs. Netrition has some lo-carb flour that you can use. It's not the best but it will do to make things. good luck to you.

Just a quick check in. :welcome: newbies. nice to see new faces. Try to be back later.

Lori_:) 02-21-2013 08:15 AM

Happy Thursday all!

Its Friday for me as I'm taking tomorrow off work. Heading to my sister's for a nice long weekend of sister bonding. It'll be about a 2 hr drive for me after work today..not bad.

I'm going to try to be mindful of my carbs this weekend, but at the same time, enjoy a low carb beer or 3. :D

I'll be back in the swing of things here on Monday.

Had a good workout at boot camp this morning. Abs & arms...OY! What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right? ;)

Have a great weekend!!

Lori

mykneesareback 02-21-2013 08:38 AM

Lainey, I too pray for your car to be fixed well and not cost too much. Can you consider selling your house and moving to something cheaper, senior housing, put your name on a list there, HUD has such housing.

Wow, all the newbies, I thought I was on the wrong thread, lol. Welcome, and don't try to do completely without so called carbs or starches, it ain't gonna happen. And it takes time to get yourself down to smaller portions, and to exercise regularly, but you can do it. See a dietitian if you can, it makes a big difference to see the chronic weight issue as a health thing, not a beauty thing. No magic, no point in trying to buy it in packages and bottles, that has been done over and over, to no avail. Just telling it like it is.........

The flight has been delayed of the relatives from Texas, so we are stuck here for awhile before we head to the airport.

Take care, folks.

ocali 02-21-2013 08:58 AM

Doris, where is "here"?

Mssarge 02-21-2013 09:00 AM

Good morning all...I guess our weather front has moved into the midwest and is making snow there. (I'm going to Kansas City, Kansas City here I come:sing:) Kinda wish I was going to Kansas City, or Big D, or New Orleans, somewhere, or anywhere....my feet are itching and want to see what's down the road a piece. But that's not to be...stuck here between these four walls....sigh!

Our gas went up 67 cents in the last month...I paid $3.47 last month when I filled up, and $4.14 yesterday...I wonder what it'll be this summer when big oil decides to raise the prices? They seem to do it because they can.

Nuttin' planned for the day and since it's a down day, can't eat my way through the fridge. Maybe I'll run to the poker table just to get me outta the house.

The tail-waggers haven't eaten the puppy, yet, but I'm not sure if they've accepted him into the pack. Last night I had to really exert my control as he was actively humping the doxie and would stop....I forgot about that problem with male puppies. I'm falling for him, so he'll probably stay as this makes a week he's been in the house...sigh! What am I doing taking a five-month old puppy into my heart?

Good vibes going out to all our friends who are having problems and who are on the roads. Stay warm all and welcome to our new friends.

mykneesareback 02-21-2013 09:01 AM

Visalia, Ca. Julie :)

Gas up where we live in the mountains was $4.25, and on yesterday's trip down we paid $3.99 at the cheaper truck stops. Chevron was already up to $4.19 but we don't go there..............

This happens every spring, the Oil company executives need more money to keep their extra women and families going friends, and that is the jist of that story.

tatehouse 02-21-2013 09:13 AM

Hey all,

Feel better today! I am taking all sorts of stuff that the doctor recommended ... all over the counter...I felt well enough to run some errands today. Rained yesterday and washed some of the pollen away. Mid Feb and green everywhere. What will we have in April?? Strange weather.

Hope all is well with you all...welcome to the newbies...stick around...this group rocks.

Anne

Oh Lainey, hopefully the bill for the Jeep repair won't be too high. :console: Damned cars anyway. They are a necessary evil.

Hi and Welcome to the new people. Hang in there. Once you break the carbohydrate addiction, it gets much easier.
Check out our daily menu thread for meal ideas.

Doris, sorry about the delay at the airport. That was one nasty storm front. Hope you all have a great time with little Silas celebrating your mom's 100th birthday.

SuSUN 02-21-2013 01:59 PM

Hi All,

I was up and out this morning for some training at the Hospice. I will be volunteering here and there as I am still working very part time. I am not sure how this all will work out but I will do what I can.

DS is enjoying Florida already, he said he woke up to 77 degrees and he is loving it.

What a Wonderful birthday to celebrate with your Mom Doris. Hope all is enjoyable.

Waving to All.

Msevon2 02-21-2013 02:47 PM

BoBoelink, there is a recipe for some oopsie rolls in the recipe room. I saw the recipe and thought to myself, I dont think they would be good. But when I finally tried them, they were pretty good. I used them for hamburgers and ham sandwiches. You could also eat a piece of whole wheat bread once in a while if you have controll. I dont. So I do low carb til I am sick of protein, then I change up and do the up day down day diet for a while. But there is always chicken salad, tuna salad, hot wings, roast beef from the deli and horseradish. Just have to look around. You can even have what you have for breakfast or dinner. It can be done. You can make it.

Msevon2 02-21-2013 02:53 PM

kat cairo, do you like the low carb flour? Does it work well? I bought some kind of stuff once and it was not good, so never bought that again. The first time I bought a shake, I got a canned one. It was awful. I did not used them for years, and when I joined the gym 3 years ago, they suggested protein shake. I said that stuff is nasty. She reccomended one and it was pretty good. Then I tried one at walmart that was even better. I dont know the name of it, but it is cookie and cream flavor and I even use it in my coffee. Let me know your feelings on the flour. Thanks

Msevon2 02-21-2013 02:57 PM

Lainey, another treat of bad weather on the way for us. How about you? I am in NC. Did you hear from the jeep yet? I was going to tell you something that might interest you. My son in law went over to his moms on Sunday on the way to my house for dinner, and when he went in he smelled smoke. And then he found a pack of smokes beside her computer. She will be 71 in September and started back smoking. I have never seen her smoke a cigarette and known her since 1993. I hope I dont have the urge when I turn 70. I have been smoke free since 1995. She used to get on me when she came to visit.

Mssarge 02-21-2013 04:03 PM

Hey Evonne, we stopped smoking the same year...me in November '95 after 36 years of the habit. So glad I stopped and I have been tempted a few times, but never succumbed....and I'm over 70...teehee.

Over on the JUDDD links is one for Fantastic Flour mix Weezie came up with...I've found the coconut flour is drier than the almond most folks use in the OMM. I've never tried the OOOPsies but keep thinking I'm gonna make em up one of these days. I've found a low carb tortilla that works pretty good and I bought a case of the Magic Pops...they're only 20 calories for a large one and go really good with the Laughing Cow cheeses...I use Carbquick for pancakes and biscuit-like breads...

I recently bought a very good LoCarb book...I got it while it was free, but it's still only a couple of bucks now...That's Low Carb? by Sharon Wertz. She says she's on LCF and was wondering if anyone here knew her, or remember her. She has some really good recipes including KevinPa's bread.

Did make the casino run and did pretty good...hated to leave as I was holding good cards, but I'm restricting myself to driving during the daylight hours....one of these days I'll get brave, but for now, discretion is the better part of valor.

Hope everyone had a good day and great things came your way....stay warm folks, winter is still knocking on the door.

Msevon2 02-21-2013 04:50 PM

Mary, I bet if we were closer, we could do some damage. Maybe that is why we are not closer. My friend Elizabeth has a lot of the low carb books too. I am not for most of the books. All the ones she has, has all this stuff I have not heard of in it and not really my style. I mostly eat close to natural. I have can goods just in case one day I might need a quick meal for someone who drops in, but I like to start with the fresh stuff when I can. Today was an up day. I had bacon and eggs for breakfast with a cup of coffee with protein powder in it. Then had a couple baked potatoes with some fat free sour cream for lunch and a homemade veggie soup with okra, cabbage, potatoes, onions and tomatoes in it for dinner with some crackers. I do allow myself the sugar free hawaiian punch to drink and now til bed time will be water. Tomorrow is a down day and I only have liquids. Then Saturday we got to celebrate my son in laws birthday that was Tuesday and he wants seafood. Looking forward to that. After the weekend, I will decide if I will go back to atkins or stay on juddd. I love the juddd idea and it did work great for me when I started it, but then it quit working. We have a pharmacist who comes and does our blood work and brings our drugs to work and all. The 1st time he came, I can imagine what he was thinking when he saw me. But I sure impressed him with my numbers. He said I had the best numbers on bp and cholesterol and trigs and bs that he had seen all day. Just that other number that was the problem. But one day, I will over come again.

Mssarge 02-21-2013 05:20 PM

I know what you mean...I was low carb since the 80's but got tired of losing and regaining the same 10 pounds since I retired 16 years ago from the Army...I allowed myself to put on weight when I quit smoking and am sorry I did, but it helped me overcome the habit. Discovered JUDDD in June and have lost 40 pounds, but most of that was before November. Can't seem to lose since the eye operation...stress and I'm not really sticking to the plan, the same problem I had with Atkins. My down days aren't as low as they should be and my up ones are usually not high enough...so I guess you can say that I'm just reducing calories and maintaining. In a way, that's good as my body is adjusting to the new weight in a much better way (I'm so afraid of developing an "apron" as happens so frequently for folks who lose a lot of weight.) I'll get back to losing when I'm able and in the meantime, I'm not sweating it.

That soup sounds so good, but mine was so tasty that it was satisfying...who knows, my itchy feet may bring me "east of the Mississippi" as I have friends in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Florida that I may decide to visit. If so, I'll let ya know...in the meantime, we've got our friends here and the buddds on the other forum to see us through.

Msevon2 02-21-2013 06:11 PM

Mary, if you find you self headed this way, stop by, be glad to meet you. I have lots of friends, but always room for one more. Some of my friends are married, and some have grandchildren to tend and some have older people to tend, so I still have free time where I find nothing to do. Right now, I am at work. Just had this 83 y o man from maine call and he was so entertaining. He was trying to flirt with me. Told me his son made beer so I went and looked it up. It is called smuttynose brewery. They have some nice looking glasses and stuff. He was so funny, said the beer that he brought him last time taste worse than diesel fuel. I was about to die, he was so funny. I have an ex fiance in Orlando. I also have one in Pa. Just not found the right one yet. But it could happen. I will have been a widow for 7 years on March 15. Sometimes it seems like just yesterday. No hurry.

Hey Msevon,
I have tried the flour. it's good. I don't cook very well, and the biscuits that i made were as good as the biscuits I made before. Not that that would help. I use a protein shake regularly. I get the ones from Publix. You mix the dry with your wet. I usually use kool-aid made with stevia. and only use whole berries. the can ones are good if you are in a hurry. of course I am a chocoholic, so I like the "milk chocolate" ones the best. the first time i tried one i thought I would gag. they grow on you. ;)

Corvettebuff 02-23-2013 11:50 AM

People don't give up on the oopsie rolls. I made them and hated the eggy taste I ate one right out of the oven almost made me gag. Well I put them in fridge and about five days later I made a bacon sandwhich with them they were wonderful no egg taste. so give them another try. I was so excited to find this out. Susan

Corvettebuff 02-23-2013 11:52 AM

If you are looking for LC flour go to the fantastic flour thread I think they renamed it BTF (Better Than Flour) it is a mix of some different things but they are having amazing results with them. Susan
