Downton Abbey
Hope I spelled that correctly...All of your talk about the show and all of the awards going to it in the various award programs have piqued my interest in it. You see, we here in Los Angeles are rather at a loss...our local affiliate for PBS for decades had a change in policy last year and have dropped shows that cost them a lot of money and Downton Abbey is one. (An aside...Actually, I thought it interesting in the Anchorage, Alaska, PBS station ran ads showing their cost of the programs, what their budget was and asking viewers to schedule the programs...worked for a long time. Don't know if they still do it.)
So, we're deprived but in researching it, I found that my cable company does carry a separate PBS channel, so now that I know that I can start looking to see what I've missed. I understand this is the third season, so I don't expect a running synopsis...what's the plural of synopsis...synopsi? Anyway, I would be interested in why you watch the program. What is it about this program that is creating all the hype? Is it worth my while to catch up on the series by checking them out on Netflix? ![]() Thanks for your comments...

I think the actin is so very perfect...
the story lines are "not too many- not too few".... location, lihtin, costumes, etc. are spot on and the castin is splendid- wondered about our Shirly Mc. but she came thru even thouh her part was rather a crass American but did indeed make a amazin contrast to the refined brits. I PLAN to rent the DVDs seasons and marathon them with many, many cups of tea in the pot! I have watched from the very beinnin but it is amazin how much better any any show is with rw and fw and pause- makes me want to et blu ray! (my hearin is just a tiny bit off and the accents thouh not too heavy are there and sometimes I wish I could RW a sentence or two)
hmmm, yep! you will like Downton Abby but for sure "catch up" with the DVD's as soon as you can. I am oin to try my library. Love your military back round- very proud of my dauhter the Lt. Col. in the air force in D.C.

I think Lainey explained it very well - while it is a period piece set in England, intially, prior to WWI, the acting is superb, the writing excellent, and the twists and turns of the story lines so engaging. You will be hooked before you know it!
Hope you get to enjoy it - Michele |

I like it so much that I'm buying the seasons as they come out. This is the type of thing you want to keep going back over and over again. I just love Maggie Smith. She is such a wonderful actress. Her little quips just make the show.

Just got caught up on last week's episode - Now, I can't wait for tomorrow night. That Ms. O'Brien - she's such a manipulator!
Enjoy everyone, Michele |

I would definitely try to catch up from the beginning...You find out why the family is set up the way it is...starting with a major incident in 1912 that changes the path of the whole family and the estate

Marie, I did that - I had only missed the one episode, so now I'm all caught up. I agree with you, I don't think this show would be so good without having seen all the previous episodes.
Glad you're a fan, too. Michele |

I have been watching the series from the very beginning. Thanks to my family in England informing me of the show.
Everyone that I have told about it now loves it and have caught up by buying the series or loaning them from the library. The family in England called me way before we got the series here. So I was on the look out for the show. Yes, Mary Maggie Smith is a gem! Shirley McLaine was unfortunately just a cameo performance, which is too bad as there could have been more banter between the two Matriarchs. Michele, Yes O'Brien is quite a character, the scheming, conniving woman. I also wonder where the story is going with James... I guess we shall see as the story unfolds. Bates and Anna will have their own story too. I believe it is a 2-hour special tonight so set your recorder longer. Have Fun All watching it...TTYL...

So hard to believe the finale is on in just a few minutes! It seems as if the season had just started - so long to wait. I think I read Season 4 doesn't start here in the US until January 2014. - too long to wait....
Enjoy the episode tonight, fellow-fans, Michele |

Even though I heard Matthew was leaving this season I still wasn't prepared for the ending. It was left in quite a cliff hanger. NOW THE WAIT BEGINS! HA! |

Just finished watching the first three episodes and must say that I can appreciate everything you've said. It is truly an outstanding production and I'm looking forward to watching the rest of them. Great show and the acting is superb and I can see why it is getting the accolades.

Well, marathon weekend of the second season and so grateful to y'all for getting me hooked...it is everything everyone has said. I thought I'd have to buy the second and third seasons as Netflix has only the first season on streaming, but Amazon Prime has season one and two so really enjoyed it. Now, I'm dropping Netflix, again. I have ordered season three on DVD so will get that this week. The season that finished this winter is season four, right? So will be looking for a source for that as well.
Thanks again, I'm really enjoying it. |
