OK, here go again, the usual crew...........

I'm posting this old picture yet again, commemorating my family immigrating to America from Berlin, Germany on this day, 63 years ago. My parents were 36 and 37 years old, didn't know one word of English yet. Brothers were 9, and I was 3. My mother handmade all the clothes we wore, not knowing that we were going to live on a farm near Fresno, Ca., where it hits over 100 degrees often, lol.

Shalbrihil 01-20-2013 03:13 PM

What a nice picture of you and your family. My goodness I was 4 years old 63 years ago. Still living in LA and scared to death of school. :D

Dh and I cleaned and straightened the house today. I worked harder doing that then actually taking a walk at the lake. Boy it's nice in here now. Things are actually put in there proper place.

Love the old family family photo, Doris,

Did a lot of walking at the gun show today, but tomorrow it will be 4 or 5 hours sitting at the wheel of the car driving home.

mykneesareback 01-20-2013 05:56 PM

I hope the show and Gettysburg was a good "respite" for you and your dh, Linda.

Sharon, I envy your walking in a nice, scenic, area, good for the soul :shake:

Was able to get in 2 hrs. 35 min. today, and did the weight bar and 10 lb. weights, since dh had a morning nap today.

See yah tomorrow!

Love the family picture Doris.

Day of rest today.

Sunday - 4500 steps
I have been procrastinating the last week. It is so cold but I could go to the gym

Loretta V 01-21-2013 08:31 AM

Your parents were very courageous Doris to come to America with so many unknowns and 3 kids is tow. Does you mom still remember any of this?

Managed a 3.68 mile walk this am. Dang cold out there.
No workout.

mykneesareback 01-21-2013 10:52 AM

Yes Loretta, my mother now is amazed that they had the "guts" to do it, but Berlin at the time was bombed out, and we were lucky to have distant relatives that lived over here, who paid for our move, and then my parents paid them back. In those days, you had to pay a fee before you could immigrate, plus, people had to vouch for you, have a place for you to live and a job, before they let you over. They checked out our health, too, had to jump some hurdles. My husband's parents also immigrated here, in 1960, and it was the same thing back then.

Doing the bike and rebounder, for a change of pace today. It's still extra cold, but is supposed to "break" tomorrow!! Yippee!

Liblady 01-21-2013 01:50 PM

Loved the picture Doris.........you were a cutie. Am so glad your parents were able to come here.
Did Lesley Sansone tape all weekend, a break today.

mykneesareback 01-21-2013 03:16 PM

Thanks, Ginny, and everyone else whom I've forgotten to thank ;)

Pushed myself to get the Jack LaLanne chair exercises in this afternoon, too, dh had an extra long nap. I need to step up my program since dh seems to really want to do this "Wash D.C." trip in March. I am flabbergasted at all those steps leading up to the Capitol bldg., oh my goodness!!! We are going to need to walk our fannies off.

MaryMary 01-21-2013 07:36 PM

5500 steps

Shalbrihil 01-21-2013 08:18 PM

Strolled around Costco is all today.

Loretta V 01-22-2013 02:35 PM

Stroll around Kroger's today. Senior day.

Walk and workout.

mykneesareback 01-22-2013 03:12 PM

Wish I had markets worth strolling around in, lol.

Bike time 2 hrs. 50 min., and weights without squats today, no time for more, dh keeping me on my toes with this and that, stuff is breaking around here........

Shalbrihil 01-22-2013 03:22 PM

Had our walk and later did some bike time. (10 mins)

LoveMontana 01-22-2013 06:27 PM

Doris, my maternal grandmother came here from Germany and my grandfather came her from Ireland way back in the early 1900's. They too had to be sponsored by relatives and had to be able to find jobs quickly.

Trip was very productive. ;) I picked up a crimson trace laser grip for my carry piece at half the price of them around here.

Anyway, did a good two hour walk around Wegman's today. Nothing outside since it was only 7 degrees with a wind chill of 11 below.

MaryMary 01-22-2013 07:50 PM

3000 steps today, boohoo. I worked from home and dodn't get out in the snow.

Loretta V 01-23-2013 12:26 PM

Had a wonderful sleep last night and woke up a little late.

Walk but not as far, exercise workout upper and lower body 30 min.

mykneesareback 01-23-2013 03:39 PM

Linda, have you found your grandparents on the list from Ellis Island?

Did 2 hrs. 45 min. bike time, squat without weights, and sideways walking, dancing, trying to be quick about it...........;)

Shalbrihil 01-23-2013 03:57 PM

Woke up at 4 am this morning. Haven't a clue as to why that happened. Still going like the energizer bunny. Even took a walk around the neighborhood with both dogs after getting a little shopping done at Trader Joe's. Need I say I'm a little sore now?

Dark clouds and wind is bringing that rain by tonight. Button down your hatches Mary. :) Hope you left your eye doctor's office today with script in hand.

MaryMary 01-23-2013 06:19 PM

Doris, have you been back to visit Berlin since the wall came down?

4500 steps today

mykneesareback 01-23-2013 07:04 PM

Nope, we had to cross the checkpoint to visit my cousin and aunt. My cousin, who live in a suburb of what was East Berlin, has still never been to what was West Berlin..........he has no car, only a bicycle, and can't afford the train ride.

mykneesareback 01-24-2013 06:43 PM

Managed 2 hrs. 35 min. on the bike today, and some more snow/ice/slush removal, the propane guy was coming and the side gate had been cleared a bit, but not enough, couldn't get it open wide enough for the guy and his hoses to get in and be safe  Sure glad I bought that plastic shovel instead of the heavy metal piece of baloney.

That's all I did today. No time for more, too much wrapping up stuff from the store and yakking around.

Shalbrihil 01-24-2013 06:59 PM

Didn't get walk in today but heading for the bike in a bit. We are having our wall furnace replaced and today the guy came to start the process. Monday will be the day they put it in. Yay!!!

MaryMary 01-25-2013 03:32 AM

5000 steps

Loretta V 01-25-2013 10:53 AM

Ice on the roads early this am. Read and ride and exercise workout upper and lower body.

mykneesareback 01-25-2013 01:06 PM

3 hours exercise bike, and sideways and regular line dancing, and that's it.

mykneesareback 01-25-2013 09:03 PM

Dug some more snow out by the back gate, so the cats could get through faster, lol. :shake:

LoveMontana 01-25-2013 09:07 PM

Oops, been busy and did walk two hours and used hand weights. Just haven't been on line much.

Doris, no I have not even looked for my grandparents on the Elis Island List. Perhaps I should soon.

Loretta V 01-26-2013 10:11 AM

Walk by the lake this am. 25 degrees with no wind.
A little over 5 miles. Nice fresh air and a beautiful sunrise.

No workout yet, might do that too.

All times are GMT -7. The time now is 10:51 AM.
