Saturday, January 12 roll call
Just starting us off.

Unusually cold for here. So cold our heat pump switched over to the propane heater. Thank heavens it finally got cold enough so we could see that worked!

Nothing much planned for the day, but we have a dinner party to go to.

Have a good one, and hoping the rest of the purchase goes more smoothly, Verleen, and that Bob continues to improve, Louise.

Mssarge 01-11-2013 11:24 PM

Gotta jump in here and say, "Wooooo-eeee It's cold out dere.
We're going down into the 20's here in the Southland and our mountains and deserts near zero...farenheit, that is...so, Baby, it's cold out there." The passes were closed Thursday night for 17 hours and expected to be closed again tonight...my friend in Vegas, who stays here during his work week, is down with the flu so he couldn't make it anyway as both passes between here and Vegas are closed....And I hear the midwest and central areas are getting hit just as hard, if not harder with the blizzards.

So hunker down, folks, this is a cold one...stay warm and I sure hope you all have had the flu shot...even if it's only 64 percent effective. And I hear there are three different strains out this year, no wonder it's hitting the country hard.

Stay safe folks, my prayers are with you...(and I'm so happy for the new house, I'm sure Cathy is elated...when's the housewarming? Maybe we'll show up at the front door)

Definitely BBL....have a good day.

another 1/2 hour to go on the "armour hour".
bbl with coffee.

Good morning!

Am back home again and have lots to do today - laundry, grocery shopping, cleaning, etc. - hopefully, will be able to relax with the netflix tonight. Nice, mild weather today, but it's supposed to change again to highs of 40 tomorrow. :(

Verleen, so glad to see your good news!

Doug, Hope you're feeling better very soon.

Waving to everyone else - BBL,

LoveMontana 01-12-2013 07:52 AM

Putting my foot in the door then it's off and running. Grocery shopping, cleaning and laundry. UGH!!:stars:

tatehouse 01-12-2013 07:59 AM

Yesterday was such a busy day...but today I will rest and be quiet.

I woke up with after having terrible nightmares at 3. Took an anti anxiety pill and read an hour. I have always been plagued with vivid dreams both good and bad. These were particularly bad. Hopefully tonight will be better.

Have a few Netflix BBC series that I watch and also (for Lainey) a movie called Bird of the Air. And of course my kindle...I have so many choices to fill relaxing time!

Sending hugs to Anne

Poor Rich didn't sleep well. He was all excited about the house. Mary I am planning on a house warming for Cathy. Rich will hide in the basement of course. First the mortgage co has to send in their appraisers to see if we get the mortgage. Then we have to hire an atty and a house inspector. Once those hurdles are passed, then we can set a closing date. After the closing we can start with the contractor work (fence, stair lifts and modifications to make Cathy's suite). Then we can move in, unpack, etc. That last bit will take a couple months, I suspect. Then we can plan and have the house warming. Cathy wants it to be just a celebration, not a gift-giving event. And y'all are invited! We have over an acre in yard space, so plenty of room to park some RVs. It should be summer by then, so no snow to worry about.

Cathy is off this weekend, so we'll get together and plan what we are doing next. We are leaving most of these arrangements in the hands of the realtor.

I am trying to make some oatmeal and keep boiling my water away. Today I will work on going through my office paper work some more. This is a job like Lainey's never-ending yard weeds. I tended to keep all papers for at least 7 yrs. However, many 7 yrs have come and gone without sorting out the papers.:stars: So I have 50+ yrs of paper work.

Anne, sorry about those nightmares that kept you awake. Maybe the moon was in the right placement for dreaming. I had vivd dreams too, but not nightmares.

Doug, I sure hope today you are feeling much better. A two week flu was bound to knock you off your feet for awhile. Best take it real easy.

Louise, how is Bob today?

Off to finish the oatmeal.:yummy:

mykneesareback 01-12-2013 10:07 AM

Hello, everyone, just checking in, it's 8 degrees and we are glad we have a heater on in the garage, to help keep the water going, from the well.

Woodstove is cleaned up and working well, thank goodness, and what a nice, young, clean cut chimney sweep we have, lol. ;);)

Off to eat and finish another hour on the bike, then get the day going. dh is grilling tri tip, so only have to fix a salad of some sort.

Wishing you guys well today!! All of you, and thanks, Verleen for reminding me of what we have to do when we buy another house! :high5:

ocali 01-12-2013 11:45 AM

Ditto to what everyone above said!!
Verleen, we'll be expecting engraved invitations, ya know. Get rid of all that paperwork. It used to be 7 years, but for some time now, it's been 3 years of back papers.
I think today is the 4th day we've been up in the 80's. (sorry). Been outside almost the whole day after going to breakfast at clubhouse. It's once a month and mobbed.

Mssarge 01-12-2013 12:16 PM

Hi guys & gals, just checking in...sunny and cold. I haven't checked my lemon tree and I sure hope the frost didn't "bite" it. The fruit is just starting to ripen and I've had only a few from it....what a strange year.

Stay warm y'all and I hope you have a great day.

Loretta V 01-12-2013 12:31 PM

Checking in also. We have flash flood warnings out for tonight and freezing rain for tomorrow. Makes me shutter. Guess I will try to use some common sense.

Been busy with a new Sweetheart. How wonderful this is.

Liblady 01-12-2013 12:54 PM

How wonderful Loretta. Enjoy every moment.:heart:

Went out for a bit this morning with a friend over to Bealls, didn't buy anything, just looked. Ended up at Walmart and bought a new Lesley Sansone exercise tape. I've been feeling the need. ;) Took the wrap off of it but haven't done more than that.

Really warm today, it's been sunny but now we have a few clouds.

Washing clothes at the moment, should be a quiet rest of the day and evening.

Begete, have fun at the dinner party.

Mary, hope you get some lemons, what do you do with them, lemondade?

Doug, get better and get a flu shot next year, right?:)

mykneesareback 01-12-2013 01:31 PM

That is sure some happy news, Loretta!
Stay safe if you are out and about in that freezing stuff, doggone it!

Julie, how nice to go out and enjoy breakfast with pleasant people, lol. And now you get to feel the warmth of the sun, hard to imagine it, just looking out the window at the sea of white snow, makes me cold.

Ginny, isn't it funny, no matter where we are, there always seems to be laundry or washing dishes or something to do like that......at least you go to go shopping around. Enjoy your peaches!

Finished the bike time, so off to do kitchen stuff.

Michele, are you glad to be home again, for awhile? When do you have to go again?

Mssarge 01-12-2013 03:18 PM

Hola!! I'm back...got my emergency equipment last night and got it hooked up and tested this afternoon. I really don't know how I feel about having it, yet, but I think I'll be relieved. I've just got to get used to carrying when I leave the house. It even has a waterproof wrist band and pendant devices to wear in the shower, fer goodness sake! I have a 30-day money back trial period so I see how I feel after a few days of having it around. A few of the friends and family I've mentioned it to seem to think it's a good idea.

Ginny, I have always loved lemons...even as a kid I ate them like oranges which probably wasn't good for the teeth, but oh well. I freeze the juice so I'll have it throughout the year....and, of course, add a slice to my water. My g'mother used to drink the juice of one first thing every morning. I have lots of recipes for 'em, lemon meringue, a turkish pickled lemons (salted in the juice), lemon curd, and cookies. One I was rather proud of...a friend once asked if I had a recipe for a double-crust lemon pie like he'd eaten once in Texas. I searched until I found one and used to make them every year for a bake sale (and an extra one for him). Oh! and give them away to anyone who even looks like they need lemons...my my Greek friend.

Verleen, funny I had a dream this morning that I was helping you move into the new house...Gee, you sure look nice!

It's 50 degrees outside right now and again we're going down to the 20's tonight. I can't tell anythng about the lemon tree...it doesn't look bitten, but who knows til this cold snap is over.

Hope this was a good day for you and all are on the mend...

Shalbrihil 01-12-2013 04:55 PM

 Loretta I'm so happy for you

Mary I love lemons too and like to freeze them in ice cube trays for putting in recipes or just a glass of water. We have an orange tree but no lemon as yet. I'm thinking maybe getting a dwarf and planting it in a half whisky barrel. Would that work you think? I'll have to find out. It would be really nice on our patio if the roots wouldn't get too cramped.

Verleen after Julie let us know about the file keeping I'm going to get rid of half the stuff I've saved over the years. Saving 3 years and no more from now on. :)

I made a meatloaf for our dinner tonight. First time without using breadcrumbs hope it tastes good and stays together with the mushrooms and eggs only. This will be a test. Meatloaf is one thing I've really missed. If this works I'll be making it more.

We had flax meal waffles for lunch and they were so good. So filling and satisfying without flour just the flax meal.

See you later. :)

weezie 01-12-2013 05:03 PM

Hi all-

They still have not identified the culprit in Bob's illness. He had fever last night and today, so they've switched to yet another antibiotic. As I was leaving the doctor came in and said they're doing another culture and will give him another CT scan to try and find out more. He is still having problems swallowing.

This is scary and discouraging but I am trying to stay positive.

P.S. Loretta, so happy for you! Hope things work out happily.

Doug_H 01-12-2013 05:06 PM

Sharon, Jo made meatloaf 2 days ago and chicken soup today.

She took soup over to the 80+ yo neighbors who are also suffering from the flu.

modon69478 01-12-2013 05:07 PM

Here's a recipe that I use for meatloaf that I enjoy, if you're not happy with the way yours came out -

Low Carb Meatloaf
Ingredients: 1.5 lbs chopped meat (beef, pork, veal)= 0 carbs
1 packet beefy onion soup= 5 carbs
cup flax meal = 0 carb
3/4 cup shaved parmesan cheese= 0 carb
1 large egg= 0 carb
1/4 cup heavy cream= 0 carbs
1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce= 1 carb
2 Tablespoons tomato paste= 5 carbs
2 Tablespoons tomato sauce= 1 carb
3 strips of crumbled bacon= 0 carb
salt & pepper to taste
12 carb total / 4 servings = 3 carbs per serving
How To Prepare: Mix all ingredients together - if too moist, add a little more cheese. Shape into a loaf and place in a pan; take a pastry brush and coat the top with a little tomato sauce (if you like it that way)
Bake at 350 degrees for 50 min.

Shalbrihil 01-12-2013 05:16 PM

Thank you Michele. I'll let you know how this one is. Dh just put it in the oven :).

Louise thinking positive thoughts for you and Bob today.

mykneesareback 01-12-2013 06:17 PM

Louise, I do hope they find out which virus it is, or whatever it is, so frustrating for Bob and you :console: So sorry this is happening to you guys................

SuSUN 01-12-2013 07:09 PM

Putting my toe in at the end of a busy day. I have work tomorrow so I need to get some sleep tonight. I plan to wind down now and relax with some tv.

Hope to BBT...

Mssarge 01-12-2013 08:09 PM

Sharon, I'm sure that a dwarf lemon tree would work in a half barrel...citrus has very shallow roots and would probably do well for a few years. Of course, it would take a while to bear fruit, tho'. Check with your nursery guy or gal; I'm sure they'd know. I still regret not getting a bay tree a number of years ago and life's too short for regrets...

Shalbrihil 01-13-2013 10:22 AM

That's what I thought also. I'll do some checking the next time we're at the nursery. :)

All times are GMT -7. The time now is 03:48 PM.
