Good morning, Loretta. And, those to come. Just got up. Handy man never showed up nor called yesterday. Maybe today?
My friend called me almost 9 p.m. last night. I didn't say anything about the time because maybe she didn't realize it was so late. I was lying in bed playing with the tablet with HGTV on the t.v. She wanted to remind me about a lunch today...which I was not planning on going to. It's free for all those over 85 and others can come and pay $5. She's "of age" and I, of course, would have to pay. I'll probably be sorry I didn't go but I'm going out tomorrow night with our street so enough is enough at the moment. Today is bed changing day, so off I go!

Jan, I just loaded the Word game you mentioned. I see it's like scrabble BUT I can't figure out exactly how to play the game on the tablet. Also, don't know how to add someone's name to play with. Call me STUPID!

Good morning Doris and thanks for fun start to the day.

Just read your post from yesterday night SuSun. The smoke quit has been nothing like the first quit 12 years ago. Of course that was after a 20+ year habit and this is only for the months of October, November & December with one last ciggy on the morning of Jan.1 2013. "MY BURNING SHOUT IN MY HEAD"? Just do not buy them and for Gawd's Sake- no bumming!!! At Sam's yesterday (the place was a Zoo- with crowds blocking aisles... reminded me of what Zombies would be like in real life. The "cage" where the ciggys are locked up had a big crowd waiting to get their butts and I felt relief that it wasn't me with them and yet envy at the same time. Thanks for the support here as it sure does help to be cheered on.
I will watch "Country Strong" today and then just more house puttering and pulling down all the decorations till Christmas 2013.
Doris, that cartoon is great! Has anyone tried the PREPRATION Hyet?
Begete? what was that second movie you recommended after The Southern Beast one? I have that one on a long wait list at BB but for the life of me could not remember the title of the second one you liked.
Kitties are loving their poached chicken this morning and loved their steamed raw easy peels last night (they only like the Sam's shrimp so I stocked up on that for them.
Coffee is bout gone and so am I.

Sure is cold here this morning - 35 degrees - but it is supposed to warm up later in the day.

Got the laundry going and need to go the office supply store when they open to pick up 'New Year' stuff. The rest of the day will be spent doing work stuff and then I will reward myself with the new Downton episode.

Keep up the good work, Lainey; I know it's a hard fight, but if anyone can do it, you can!

Enjoy the day everyone,
Michele

Morning all.

Nothing going on here. I used to play Canasta, too. At least we will have a few things to do when we all have our Golden's reunion! Eat and play!

Lainey, I have 2 movies here that I will watch today, I hope. The Godfather...I have a list of Movies I alway thought I'd seen but really haven't and that was on it. Breakfast at Tiffany's is on that list, too. Also Decoy Bride which I hear is cute and has great scenery. Hope to get them both watched today. The Kindle seems to win out when there are movies about.

Have a great weekend all...what is left of it.

Thanks for the opening, Loretta. If you read women's magazines, the beauty business is billion dollar, same as weight loss, and there is always a fool born every minute..............too bad we didn't buy stocks though

Sun is out, it's 19 degrees, and lots of birds out there, woodpeckers of 3 different types.

Ginny, I think Don Williams came out of retirement, has a new album to support, and your area there in Florida is laden with seniors who are not destitute, so they can charge alot for those tickets. He is coming to California, but unfortunately will be in downtown theatres, where we would not go at night.........those tickets are in the $60 range. Have you seen Merle lately?

Wondering if Verleen and Cathy will hear something by tomorrow?

Michele, I haven't spoken with our son yet, but that is danged cold for you guys!

Hi Lainey, keep it going, and it seems every store is a zoo, when we were down in Roseville, the Wal Mart was fuller than when we went before Christmas.........of course, we were part of the "zoo", too.

Anne, I still have the cards and tray to play Canasta with, used to play with the folks and relatives. It was fun, but I don't know a single soul who plays now.

Julie, better to stay put today, so your energy can stand tomorrow, at least you have things planned to do and look forward too, that is great!

Back to the bike, and going out later to fool around in the snow, lol.
Have a good day, "Posters to come".

Doris, that there are so many activities in places like Ginny and I live in, is why we bought here. Originally, we had bought a brand new condo in this city but there was nothing to do other than go to the pool. DH would go to town facility to play shuffleboard. But, here we have everything contained. Doris, if/when you move, this type of a place would be a great type of living for you. It's very easy to make friends, get out, and do whatever interests you. We both kept busy all day and some evenings.
The handyman did come today at 11 a.m. and he is still working. Gosh, it's going to add up to big bucks! Next on my list is to get the house washed; it needs it. And to either get back my 'original' cleaning lady or a new one that someone recommended highly. Oh, decisions, decisions, decisions!

I agree about these "retirement" places, they are really fun and have much to offer "seniors." We had friends over last night and tonight we're going over to another group of friends home. Very much fun! So different from our life in our little Iowa town.

Doris, we haven't seen or heard a thing about Merle. We do miss RFD TV tho, we don't get it here.

We're leaving in a bit to go to the fabric store, DH is going to fix something on a friends golf cart.

Looking forward to Downton Abbey tonight, we will also DVR The Good Wife. Gee, Sunday nights are great here at this house.

Good morning all...the low front moved through and, so far, we haven't received any rain. Scattered showers still in the forecast but it doesn't look as tho' we'll get anything. Oh well, such is life.

Keep up the good work, Lainey, just like losing the weight stopping smoking takes time. Stay busy and keep the faith...you can do it.

I've a couple of movies, Woman in Black and The Contract, to watch before cancelling my contract with Netflix as I've mentioned. I, too, hear the Kindle calling over movies, so don't want the trouble.

Hope you all have a good day...

Downton Abbey tonight! Yeah!! I will watch my Netflix movie this afternoon. It's an old one...Indochine (1992), "A wealthy plantation owner and her adopted daughter are living in French Indochina when civil war erupts. But when both women fall for the same French naval officer, their relationship becomes tumultuous."
I periodically put old or foreign movies (which I love) on my list. My deal is one at a time with no limit per month for $7.

Good Sunday Afternoon All,

Thank you Loretta for the chuckle. Yes, that is about the size of it these days for Rx and such a shopping cart. LOL!

Ginny and Julie, I whole heartedly agree that those Florida homes with a clubhouse have a real sense of community. I will rent for the Winter months for a while until I find just the right one. I am very blessed that I do find it easy to make friends. People are people no matter where you are with all the same needs.

I have the tree partially undressed so I am going at it today. It is the feast of the Epiphany so I am on the look out for those 3 Kings especially the one bringing Gold. LOL!

Yes, Downton Abbey is on tonight it is a 2hr show 9pm to 11pm here and at 8pm is the actual castle where the shows are made. So for some an interesting 3 hours. I am recording it. Yes Sunday nights are great on tv Ginny. I record so much and watch when we are ready.

Lainey, YOU Are doing it!
Taking care of your Health is the best New Years Resolution in my humble opinion.
It is good that you noticed the benefits of not smoking. Not having to hang around the smoking cabinet. You are 'Free' of that monkey on your back. Keep noticing the benefits and right them down to encourage You On!

Thank You to All that are mentioning Movies and their reviews.

Hope to check back later...

Good morning. Our weekend guests just left, so I have tons of laundry to look forward to today plus remaking beds. I seem to have picked up a stomach bug as every time I eat I feel nauseated. Maybe that will work better than diet?

Lainey, can't remember which films I recommended in which order. I think the second one we saw Beasts of the Southern Wild, was Lincoln, which was excellent. We also saw and liked Zero Dark Thirty, Cloud Atlas, Argo, Skyfall, Les Miserables.

Hope everyone is having a pleasant Sunday. It's cold, windy and dreary here.
Met a friend for lunch, now I'm headed over to my dad's to put out his pills for the week. Then back home to finish packing up the Christmas tree. Back to work tomorrow after being off for 2 weeks.
Closing on a house can take awhile. Inspections, appraisals, financing, etc. Verleen, be prepared for the inspector to come back with a million things wrong with the house. Most of it will be unimportant, but it's their job to point out everything. It's frustrating though, because you have to sift through it all to find out if there's anything seriously amiss.
Congratulations on quitting smoking, Lainey. It's not easy to do.
Really hoping for some sunshine soon! I don't mind the cold so much, but I have trouble getting motivated when it's dark and grey outside.

Thanks Begete, I think it was the Zero Dark 30 one. I'll list it anyway.
Over cast here and I too am without motivation on dreary days.
YiPIIIII on TV tonight. I am thinking of going all PBS with "Call The MidWife" then straight into "Downton Abby". I love "Once Upon A Time" but HATE the commericials that increase so much as the show progresses that towards the end there are more commercials that actual show being played.
I am one of those that loves the "Bowl" game commercials and always take a pile of my newspaper puzzle daily sheets and play while the actual game is on. My all time fav. commercial- The CAT Round up! They said the cats loved being in that round up. Those cowboys riding those horses with a cat in their arms was price less.
Welp, back to nothing.

Gray and cloudy here, too...guess we might get some showers. I, too, am afflicted with SAD, seasonal Affective Disorder, and the dark winter months are difficult to get through. Alaska was particularly bad for me but I survived it with help from my friends. Just think, Spring is really just around the corner and weather will be warming before you know it.

Took N to the market for her initial shopping. I am totally amazed at the grocery store prices these days and don't know how some of the folks are getting by. She's a good shopper and was stocking up on meat today as the stores had reduced prices on what she bought; chicken breast at 99 cents a pound for example...and she really stocked up on those. Two teens go through a lot quickly...my my

Now time to settle down on the films..hmm, a reason to connect the DVD player to my new system...

Greetings to all-

Epiphany (today) is my younger sister's birthday. We're far enough apart in age (almost 11 years) that I remember bringing her home from the hospital.

This has been a crazy few days. I was laid off on Friday. I will get unemployment, but that's not going to be enough to sustain us, so I have to scramble to find something else. On top of that, dh came down with the flu on Friday and is having a serious bout of it. At least I am mostly recovered from my bronchitis and can walk the dogs, do chores, etc., while looking after him. His temperature has dropped to low-grade fever, so now it's just a matter of getting enough liquid and nourishment into him.

Oy vey!

Love the cartoon, Loretta. A couple of women I used to work with had botox done and it looks just awful - a smooth forehead, but a look of perpetual surprise. No thanks.

I will doubtless be checking in more often, now that I'm a lady of leisure. And I might even get the house cleaned up.

Best to all and please hold the good thought for a new job for me! I need to have fibroid surgery (22 weeks pregnancy-size with all of them) and am thinking I may as well do it now just to get it over with. They're painful or I'd just ignore them.

Life throws some curve balls, but I'm feeling mentally strong, which is a plus.

I think I'm treating myself to a glass of wine tonight, since I don't have to be up at 6 am tomorrow.

Have a good one.

-Louise

Louise, sorry and will keep you in my T&P's.
Mary,I feel very lucky that I can throw what every I want in my basket and often think of people that really can't afford to get all they need.
Yes those retirement places sound nice,I wonder how I would fair.I don't think we have any locally.Of course I would not leave my farm unless or until I have to.I'm not much of a joiner so may not be that active.Within a week C. would know everyone and everything about them.lol
