Monday, July 9

I thought I would start this from the west coast Sunday night.

I am worried about Lainey so stopped in to see if she had posted. I do have her phone number so if she hasn't posted by morning I will call her unless someone else on the east coast will call, first. I was just about to dial until I realized the time difference tonight.

People - there is some terrible computer virus that if it is lurking in your computer, is supposed to kick in today.

I strongly advise everyone to run the most thorough anitvirus/malware scan you can first thing.

Have a good day. We are expecting a big mulch delivery first thing in the morning.

Thanks for starting, Begete!

I checked the site the news said to check, and it didn't show that there was any virus on here, but whatever it is, it's supposed to kick in at midnight.......hopefully, none of us have it!!

I'm hitting the hay!!

Good Morning Babette and Doris,

Thank you for our kick off Babette, plus the reminder about that virus.
What a nuisance these guys are. I have MS security essentials is that enough protection or do I need a specific anti virus program? Would anyone know.
WE need our dear Jane to bring us up to speed on all these things.

Yes, keep us updated on our dear Lainey.
I hope someone has her ph #.

Talk later...

Good morning all.

I decided to take my toe to the Urgent Care place close to the house. They xrayed it and found the pin to be in perfect order. Such a relief. They did a blood test to confirm their suspicions that it was Gout. Holy Moly. I told him I really didn't eat that good. But in the research I did last night I found that it probably is gout. I need to drink more water. Looks like I do ok on the food lists. New research says food plays less of a part in an attack than other factors. There was a picture of a small monster biting the side of a foot on Wikipedia when you pulled up gout that said in that picture is worth a thousand words kind of way exactly what it felt like.

So I was so relieved that I didn't have to face surgery that I slept like a rock. I can deal with this.

A start of another week. Did anyone hear from friend Lainey?

BBL
Anne

Oh, Begete, I forgot to tell you about our bread baking day. The three of us get together about every six months and make quick breads to bring home to our freezers. There is always something to take to a sick friend or break out for dessert or coffee. We made about 60 loaves of bread and each took a third of them. One of the husbands likes an apple spice bread especially so we quadrupled the recipe for that. We made Peach, zucchini, banana and blueberry along with the apple. The three of us have known each other since we are 4 so we are like sisters in the kitchen.
We do it about 2x a year. Its fun...we do more talking than cooking really.

Anne that is a relief about the pin and the gout can be controlled by a drug called allopurinal. DH took it for years. Before that he had really had several attacks of gout. It looked terrible and painful.

Thanks Begete for the start off today. I do a weekly full scan for viruses on my pc using MS security essentials. SO far so good. I checked on that site also and my pc was free.

Several months ago my pc did catch a virus during the scan. IT removed it right away, but in the history of the scan I could see where they caught it.

Maybe that is what happened to Lainey.

Good morning everyone,

Thanks for the start off Babette. Yes I too am worried about Lainey. Hopefully she is OK.

You asked if the Avatar is our new Motor Home. It is.

As for the DNS virus, it would have shut down your INTERNET access as of midnight if your computer was infected. So not to worry if you are able to access the net today.
Web goes dark for those with DNSChanger computer virus - Technology & Science - CBC News

Susan, you can get some great free security for your computer.
I use Avast, free anti virus, I Obit, Zone Alarm on all four of the computers and have never had a problem. Just be sure to remove any old anti virus from your hard drive before installing a new one. More than one anti virus program will conflict, but you can have several Fire walls.

Anne, yes diet has little do do with gout. It's probably a genetic thing.

Hi Doris, Loretta and all who follow

I have just had that Avast stuff for years and years, my son put it on.

Did you guys read Doug's weather report?? Lordy Lordy, it would be nudy city in here for sure, and fans over blocks of ice, etc., with the A/C on for good measure

It was 46 degrees here this morning, and we are reaching for 99 this afternoon.

Hope Lainey checks in today. Maybe she went to her neighbor Anita's??

Glad you found out about the Gout and there is a med you can take, Anne.

Waving at the rest of you fine friends here!

OK -

Lainey is OK, but her central A/C died. When I called her she was in Sam's Club shopping for a small window unit. She will post later and explain what's going on.

Good morning all, again just a quick note to check in and let the world know I'm kicking and breathing. Doctor's appointment this afternoon, the cardiologist and all is well. I think he'll be happy with the weight loss. I know I am and feel sure that more loss is on the way.

Y'all have a great day .

We're doing good here, still nice temperatures, mid 80s.

As to my post about possibly going to AZ. DH's brother is there with his daughter and family. It would be a great opportunity for us to see AZ and therein lies the problem.
We like the "brother's family but would want to stay in a motel and we also realize our main goal would be to get out and "tour" around. The brother is not able to do that, he is in more than an early stage of dementia. So, anyway DH said this morning he agreed it would great to see his brother but it's just as enticing to sit under our maple tree in the shade. So..........we're not going. (Might be just as well, I'm not sure I'd get along with that Sheriff down there.)

What brought all this on are the airline tickets we bought for DH's son/DIL to come to FL. This being the son who has had the transplant and doesn't get to go much. The son became ill this winter and couldn't use the tickets so we have a voucher for $$00 just sitting here. Anyone interested? I've tried asking so many people but no takers. You have to fly Allegiant Air, and go by August 18th. Would love for someone to use them.

Anne, don't know if you remember but a couple of years ago DH went through pain in his foot. It took him more than a few days to get to the ER but when he did it took them no time to diagnose gout. He takes the allipurinol every day and hasn't had any problem. He couldn't understand why he got gout as no one in his family had it and like you, he doesn't eat rich, fatty food. he really doesn't) Glad you got it taken care of.

Hi alll!
Back for awhile - I have been up in Northern Minnesota! Had to move my fav uncle into a nursing home! He is upset with it, but keeps falling. Now we are cleaning out the house for an estate sale and the selling of the house. Have a ton to do here at home; the guys don't do any cleaning. DH did try to vacuum but doesn't move any furniture so dust under everything and a ton of laundry. Need to catch up with everyone's news.

Thanks for the update on Lainey, Babette.
Hope she gets the right unit for her odd shaped windows.

LOL Doris, yes Doug's area is HOT

Colleen, Men, they need a kick in the butt every so often. They can clean house as well as any woman, but they just don't want to. Why? They have us to do it.

Ginny, you should go and use the tickets. AZ a beautiful area. Just stay in a Motel and pay a brief visit to your BIL.
Aww, Sheriff Joe only goes after the bad guys and is trying to clean up a huge mess down there.

Good update on Bo
Bo got through his check up with flying colors. All the drains were removed. The stress is lessening but until he is healed up all the way I won't be happy. I had a little break down last night but maybe that's what I needed. I'm still shaking my head about all that's gone on...can't believe it even today. I just want that dog put away. We'll call to see what's going on maybe Wed. We sent the report and pictures over the weekend.

This is where you should've checked about that virus but then we are here so A-ok.
DCWG | DNS Changer Working Group

Babette, thanks for the update on Lainey. I always worry about her.

Anne, I am pretty sure Doug on here has Gout. I was under the impression it was wise to stay away from certain foods. Check this out.
Gout diet: What's allowed, what's not - MayoClinic.com

That bread baking is a fun idea. Unfortunately I'm not in contact with any old girlfriends. Sounds fun just to be with friends.

Ginny, when way back when it seemed like we could delete a post but only for a few minutes then it was impossible.

Well, here I am again..it hit 100 degrees before I left the house and up a few degrees since this...but as Johnny Carson used to say, "They say it's a dry heat, but so is the oven and I don't stick my head in there." I keep saying that it's Summer so what do I expect.

Doc was happy with my weight loss and didn't even mention the Medifast for which I'm grateful. He really liked the numbers and congratulated me on being in good shape. So that's done and I know he'll be really happy when I see him next year. This is the cardiologist that was my husband's doc in the hospital and he's just keeping an eye out on me...BTW, why does the office book so many appointments so close together. I got there a half hour early and was seen by the doc an hour late. DH would have been leaving the office after 45 minutes...I know the doc has to spend the time necessary with the patients, but I blame the office staff. I spent less than two minutes with him, so somebody didn't have to wait as long as I did...enough of my rant.

I also just opened the door to the devil....I stopped at the "good" store, the one that stocks my low carb stuff and al the organic produce and meats...dang, I love 'em. BUT I picked up a bag of baked green beans and OMG are they good. I've tried to do them at home but can't get them as dried out as they do...hmm, maybe I'll try putting them in the dehydrator after baking them...Of course, today is my DD on JUDDD so can't have them as they are so high in calories (well, my DD calories) but I'll certainly enjoy them tomorrow.

Glad to hear Bo is on the mend and I certainly know how you feel...my cocker spaniel was grabbed through my fence a few years ago by the neighbor's dog. He was good about it and paid all the vet bills, not nearly as much as yours but it was a few years ago....funny thing, tho', I broke my wrist going to my dog's rescue and had to wait to go to emergency...first I was having large appliances delivered to my new house and then take the dog to the vet's to be sewed up. Reported to my new job with the arm in a cast.

Enough of a ramble....hope you all are having a good day....

Great that Bo is doing so well for an old guy. Bless his heart. You have to be so relieved.

Oh Mary, so happy your check up went very well and your doc was happy.
Get used to the wait. It's only going to get worse.

Just learned that one of DH's former co workers died. Nice guy who became a Chief on the Fire Dept. Guess it's just something that goes with our age group.
