Good Saturday morning to all.

Doris, I love it when the opening is here no matter how early i get here. You are so great to do that so often for us.
Glad the big lesions are all done and DH will have some time to recover before the next round. So glad he has pain meds to help him along.
Much cooler today but tuesday will be way better than now. Sure hope that forcast last but they can change on a dime around here. There was one dry lightening/thunder strike last night that was followed but very loud popping noises close by that sounded like a transformer but the lights stayed on so I guess nothing got hit.
SuSun stole my pillow last night as it was even too warm for her to sleep on me. When I got back from a toidy visit she was streached out full length of the pillow with her tummy skyward and sound asleep. Gosh, I adore that catty.
Thinking I'll have some eggys for breaky for a change.
May pull some weeds as the ground will be so soft from the rain. First I have to wash/dry the mountain of bedding on top of the piano that was catching the ceiling drips.
Y'all all have a good day.

Good morning. I hope everyone's morning is a nice one. I was all set to go out for breakfast and then some grocery shopping (we're out of eggs) when I remembered the house power washer is coming today. It's one of those deals where I don't have a set appt. I have to just wait around all day for him to show up. You don't have to paint vinyl siding, but you do have to power wash it. My siding does a bang up job of culturing mold and algae.

So that's my day ........w.......a.......i.......t.......i........n ........g

Most days I don't go anywhere. But when I have to sit home waiting for some service man, I want to go everywhere.

Off to check the weather for next week. Just keeping an early eye on it. Cathy wants to have a picnic one day, go look at some old homes that are for sale and hit at least one historical site. Of course, we want to do this in good weather.

Does anyone have anything planned for this weekend? Have a good one.

Good morning everyone,

Just a regular Saturday here - errands in the AM (Kohl's, Tailor, Grocery Store), then the gym, then a nice rest - read/netflix.

Anne and Ginny, nice to see your posts again - we've missed you!

Hope you all enjoy your day as best you can,

Michele

Howdy to Verleen, Michele, and Lainey with all the chores. Verleen, hope you don't have to wait all the danged day, but, nothing we can do about these appts.

Michele, enjoy your day once all the "stuff" is done.

It rained and poured when we got home yesterday, had to use the heater, and still dressed warmly in the house this morning. dh didn't sleep well, at least he had the pain pills and was able to watch some tv last night. We are staying put and just doing the "normal" around here this weekend.

Wishing everyone a pleasant day, hopeful that it works out that way.

Today is the Whidbey Island Garden Tour, but it has been raining really hard since yesterday and is cold. So I think we will pass on it.

Have a good one.

Good morning all. I got a good night's sleep last night which may be because I was so tired I had to sleep well but I took the Tylenol PM just to be sure...nothing planned for the day as I rarely do on the weekend. I think I'll do some cleaning and sorting of the junk. I've moved some from the bedroom into the garage for easy tossing...

Verleen I loved your post...."Mary, I have an iPad that I use as a reader. I'm looking for a good book to read. I'm very picky and won't read just anything. I hate romance novels. I love most of the classics but I've read them all. I like James Clavell but have read them all. I couldn't stand to read a poorly written book. Recently I read a Deaver book, titled something about Beasts in the Garden or something like that. I picked it apart as I was reading it - not a literary masterpiece. For me, it was fatally flawed. It probably has something to do with my career. I was an investigative auditor; always looking for the problems; taking people to court; officials at high levels lost their jobs; etc.

In the same vein, I read somewhere that as people's brains age, they revert back to babies. Incontinence and diapers, eating soft foods, talking baby talk, etc. If you start seeing me do any baby talk, please let me know, so I can shoot myself. I want to stave off senility for as long as I can, whether it is what I read or who I hang with. I suppose that's why for the last 10-15 yrs, I chummed around with younger people. To keep myself younger. Its probably not going to work. I'm going to get old and senile just like everyone else. "

I, too have been chumming around with the younger folks trying to stave off the "old-timers" disease. And, as for being picky about the books I read, well, I love some authors and have exhausted their fare but keep trying to find new ones. In my former life I was a teacher at the broadcasting school and had to grade papers and edit their words so I am bothered extremely by poor editing. Can't understand why so many books are published poorly written.

Since you have the Ipad, I presume you have the Kindle app. Have you subscribed to Stephen Windwalker's blog, Free Kindle Books? Everyday they are adding upwards of 300 free books to the list. It's like looking through the chaff to find the wheat, but I've picked up some really good books there and found some new authors....it's like hanging out with the young'uns. Hope you find a good book soon. Oh, there is also Project Gutenberg...another source for free books, mostly classics.

Guess that'll do it for now, y'all have a great day and hugs to all ....mary

Some pictures to share:

My cucumber and green pepper plants.

My 4 tomato plants. They are quite tall and have many small toms.

One of me at Gulf Shores. I sure had a wonderful time.

Mary WTG on keeping up with techonology. I think I am about to get lost. But I can dowload audio books to my mp3 player. Something that was a little difficult to master and I still find it like a new experience every time.

Verleen no special plans for the weekend, except that Sunday afternoon we are having a Welcome Dinner at church for the new comers. Hang in there.
The sun was in my eyes.

Hope you feel better tomorrow, Gladys!

Loretta, what a great picture of you just relaxing on the sand! I have never seen such huge tomato plants, even when we lived in the San Joaquin valley, my goodness!! You should have enough tomatoes to give away at church, lol. When I worked at the nursery, they had walls of cucumber plants that I had to water all the time, it was for their personal use. Nice, green plants, wish I liked cucumbers, ha ha.

Babette, wouldn't yah know that June 23 turns out to be a "down" day, when garden touring isn't fun when it's raining. The rain sounded good on the roof though, here. We still have the heater on, do you?

Waving at'cha, Mary. No time to read here, lucky to get a magazine in now and then.

dh took the longest nap, almost 5 hours because he barely slept. Getting ready to watch the next UAFA soccer game, so will finish the bike time then...blah blah blah.......... I know no one cares about that.

Take care!

Drizzly/chilly day here in Iowa. The gal behind us who used to have the petting zoo (now defunct) is having a "Cowboy Challenge" going on today. Lots of horses/trailers/cowboys/cowgirls. They take their horses thru all sorts of challenges and the fastest one gets the prize. Too bad the weather isn't cooperating. I'm sure our Tavern will do a great business later on.

Loretta, your vegetable plants look great. Great picture of you too. The sand looks so nice and inviting.

We have flowers on our tomatoes and small peppers on our plants. We really enjoyed our beets last night. I will cut up the leftovers and put them in vinegar, and add "make believe sugar" and onion, we love them that way.
I check our blackberry bushes everyday, and they are still going strong. I've never seen so many blackberries in my life. I'm sure you'll hear me if I see one bird around them.

Just stepping in for a minute. Nothing new here.
Loretta, I'm so glad you had a good time at the beach. The only thing I don't like about going to the beach now is getting the sand all over my body...lol. I must've had more than my life's allotment when I was younger. Your Cukes, peppers and tomatoes sure look healthy.
Doris, I always laugh to myself when you use the word "dang". I never heard anyone use it except in cowboy movies, I think. Hope your DH is up to par today.
Gladys, 'they' keep saying that we're going to get that rain that's in the gulf now. It's been cloudy all day, so we'll see what happens.
Hi to the rest of you. I wonder if it's too late to take a nap.

Hi All,

Just getting here. I can see you have already been a busy bunch.
Hot and sunny again today but at least the humidity of the past few days has passed. It was delightful at the Walk n Talk group down by the river park this morning. We filled two picnic tables. One of the volunteers from the Hospice brings table cloths and two thermos' of coffee and cups, several of the ladies bring assorted sweets. I avoid them each time but I enjoy the coffee and chat. So all in all we walk for about an hour then sit for another hour. It was very enjoyable with the breeze off the river and so many sailboats were out a very pretty scene.
I came home had some lunch and walked the dog, not sure what I'll get up to as DS has gone to a BD party tonight and will be home late. So the house to myself. LOL!

Doris, I bet you are relieved now those lesions are gone. Glad to hear he is catching up on his sleep. Let the healing begin. The European games will be on for a while now I guess. My DH would have been glued to the tv too.

Sorry to hear you are not feeling too well Gladys.

Lainey, your kitty sounds adorable sleeping on her back on your pillow too.

Loretta, just love that pic of you, yes that sand does look inviting. Those plants are huge, what a green thumb you are. Do you still grow baby spinach. I never did master that.

Verleen, You are a Lady in Waiting for sure. Hope you home is spic and span after the cleaning. Enjoy that planning with Cathy.

Hope to check back later...

Ginny, do you grow the "bell" peppers or the long ones? "Someday", we want to grow peppers, down in the heat where things actually grow. Love peppers, and they get expensive. We had berries, but something got into them, over by the fence, where no one goes. That didn't happen back when we had dogs outside all the time.

Susan, sounds like a wonderful day for you and your friends, chatting and enjoying the scenery.

Julie, I use "dang" because, growing up in a small farming town, we weren't allowed to use the "Grand Coulee _____" word, and if I use it on here, someone emails me that they will wash my mouth out with soap............and do bodily harm to me for cursing. Of course, people can talk about magical enemas on this web site, and no body cares, but that is the way of a "family" site. I did watch alot of black and white Westerns though, Gene Autry was my first "crush", so maybe that has something to do with it. TMI

lol Doris, I loved to distraction "Zorro" and "Sgt. Preston of the Yukon"... wasn't much for the cow pokes though except for "High Ho Silver" I am pretty sure that was "The Long (yes, I thought it was LONG) Ranger. I was plumb grown when I found it it was LONE Ranger.
Watched a really fun movie today- "Tower Heist" it was a hoot. I do enjoy back ground scenes of NYC and this one was full of really good clear ones. A good little time passer that was well acted and well cast.
Just got up to feed kitties supper so back to my book.
Gladys, hoping you are feeling a bit better and not coming down with something. My flare up is a worse and I know it is stress so I may take a pain pill as that helps with the stress as much as the pressure, pain and bleeding. The cancer chemo dr. said I could put off my gastro dr. till after my cruise in Oct.
TV is just stupid and I am glad I got into this book- I am supprised that it is not too bad for a girlie type novel.
bbl or tomorrow.
I LOVE that swim suit and want one like that for the cruise- where did you find it please?

Hi everyone,

Doris, thanks for starting us off.
Nice to hear that DH is catching up on his rest after the lesion excision.

Oh Loretta, your plants look so healthy. You are really going to enjoy a bountiful harvest. Do you make pickles?
The one time I grew cucumbers, it seemed like they grew overnight, every night for over a month. That was the end of my gardening. Too much work for me.

Oh you were so fortunate to be able to go to the beach. It looks beautiful!!

Mary, thanks for the tip on Steven Windwalker's blog for free kindle books.
No I don't hang out with younger people and hardly hang out with anyone. Working with sick, injured and mentally people for well over 30 years, turned me off on most "people"

Hi Gladys, so sorry you are not feeling well. Hope it passes soon.

Babette, bummer on the rain, but that's the north west for ya.

Hi to Lainey, Verleen, Ginny, Michelle, and anyone I may have missed.

Gladys, I'm sorry you weren't/aren't feeling well. Are you any better tonight?

Mary, thank you for the tips on the ibooks.

Loretta, you have a great little garden. And you look so good in a bathing suit.

Ginny, it must be the year for the blackberry. Mine are loaded too.

The house washer guys showed up around 4 pm. They did a good job. Rich was happy today because I made him meat loaf with tomato gravy for dinner. And mashed potatoes to put the 'gravy' on.

Thanks for your comments. we could surely use some rain though.

LOL Doris I got in trouble a few times on vacation for saying crap around the DGKs. Their mom was not too fond of that nasty word. That word was cleaned up from the one I really like to use: *****. Hard to break these old hablits.

Verleen, glad you had a successful day Verleen and things went well.

Linda I don't "put up" any veggies anymore with just myself here. My boys do like the homegrown tomatoes though and I share with them.\

Feeling extra tired today and will head for bed shortly.

Mary, I tried both those sites for ibooks. I can't download to my iPad. It seems Amazon and other sources of ibooks have dedicated their downloads to their own machines, such as the Kindle. Even free ibooks. Grrrrrrr. This frustration is not worth any book I could read.

Doris, I would love to cook that meal for your dh.

Loretta, gone are the days when I put up food. Certain things I would can. Others I would freeze. Tomatoes, green beans, pickles and fruits would get canned. Every year I would can around 150 qts of tomatoes. I would freeze most other vegetables. My parents had a garden that was a couple acres, even when my dad was in his 70s. They would can and freeze large amounts of food for the whole family.

Gladys, I thought you kitty lovers would appreciate that one. Good one about the no toothbrush needed.
That is great the heat killed off that bug for you.

Bummer Verleen on those ibooks. I don't even know how to do any of that stuff. Glad you got the house washed today.
What do you put in your meat loaf?

Hope to bb tomorrow...

I have a Kindle now, but I used to download books to my iPhone all the time. I just checked and I can send books directly to my iPad, too. How are you trying to do it?

Kindle app for ipad

Verleen, you may not be able to download the books for Kindle but you can get the Kindle app from Amazon the site is

Kindle for iPad: Read eBooks on Your iPad - No Kindle Device Required

or if this link isn't active, go to Amazon, Kindle store and run a search for "Kindle app for ipad" and it will take you there. Once you download the application, you can then search for books and it will download into your device.

As for Project Gutenberg, once you find a book that you like, it will direct you the a page that lists formats. In addition to the Kindle format, there is HTML or EPub, I don't know which format is used on ipad, but I'm sure either one will be readable on your tablet. I have to use the android app for my tablet as that is the operating system.

Good luck, I know there's a way to download the books, we just have to find the proper format for your device.....m

You can also get the Kindle app directly from your device or iTunes. Go to the app sore and search for Kindle. You can't buy books directly from the app though. I've bought them with my Amazon app though and have them auto sent to my kindle.

Thanks for that info. I hadn't tried to buy the books directly from the app as most of my browsing is done on my pc. I do know the pc app has a option of "shop from Amazon" it's just that I don't use it.

And Jan. Hope to see you here.
