Don'tcha love Costco, Mary? I'm so glad we can still go there, the yearly membership keeps going up, but their meats are so wonderful compared to what we have available up here, no match at all to Costco's stuff. There produce is great, too. Love those containers of grape tomatoes, makes my mouth water just to think about them, need to go there again.
See yah tomorrow! |

Doris, I'm wondering if you've ever tried this -
Since I can't seem to find the SF creamcicles anymore and the NSA ice cream bars still have a lot of carbs in them, I took an Atkins 'Creamy Chocolate Shake' and poured it into an the old fashioned ice cube tray. Do you think it will taste good frozen? Michele |

We don't have a Costco here either, but we do have a reduced Sam's club membership through my Dad's old business that my brother took over.
Brunch today was Grilled chicken thighs, steamed broccoli/cauliflower, side salad at the Skylark. Dinner was Pork Spiedies, green beans and cantaloupe cubes. Chardonnay tonight. |

No, Michele, I don't think it will taste even good to someone who hasn't had anything like that in six months, lol. Even those 45 cal. sugar free fudgesicles make me sick to even look at. I bought some 45 cal. yogurt torpedo bars on a stick, by the same Popsicle company, they are not great, I'm having them, but won't buy again. I do buy the 100 cal. Creamsicles from time to time though, but I count calories, not carbs and leave room for them. That Popsicle company, I've emailed them several times to produce a whole BOX of the 20 cal. Creamsicles, instead of sticking them in with the sugar free popsicles and fudgesicles, but they are enticing children mostly, and don't seem to understand there is a market for the sugar free frozen treats for Adults! I do like the Blue Bunny "Sweet Freedom" swirl bars, raspberry-vanilla or caramel-vanilla, 70 calories, not so large, those I've only tried 2 times, hadn't seen them before. I need a frozen treat every night to look forward to, just like a kid, I know, I know.
I've tried to freeze the chocolate protein mix stuff with water, but that sucks, also, don't waste time doing that one. Some people have luck with freezing the Suisse Mocha stuff, you know, that powdered coffee-chocolate drink powder, there are some recipes out there for that, but I've never done them because I'm the only one who would eat that, my dh won't touch it. They used to have sugar free pudding pops, they used to taste great and were only 60 calories, but haven't seen them for years, either. |

Michelle, get yourself an ice cream maker at wal mart. They are not at all expensive, and make your own SF ice cream. Use heavy cream, eggs, liquid splenda and any flavor you like. Bring to almost a boil to kill any salmonella bacteria in the eggs, cool and put in the machine, let it churn and then freeze.

Doris, I found a recipe for 'Mocha Ice Pops'. It doesn't sound hard, but it will have to wait until next weekend. I'll have to pick up some freezer pop molds. If it turns out well, I'll send you the recipe.
No more experiments for now! Good night, Michele |

Sunday's food
B. 2 slice bacon, OMM made with almond and Flax seed flour, one egg, grapefruit juice. (didn't take meds until much later. I've switched to decaf coffee in March. S. about two oz salmon and three hot wings from last night. Iced Tea also had 11 almonds, some sunflower and pumpkin seeds and about 20 raw peanuts D. Costco Salad (don't know what else to call it), 1 cup lettuce, 1 cup red cabbage, 1/2 cup broccoli florets, 1/4 cup parsley, chopped almonds. marinated artichoke, and sesame dressing....added a chicken thigh and leg and Craisans...yeh, I know, they're sugared but they tasted so good in the mix. Can't figure out where I'm going wrong in the diet...I have added some dairy and nuts during the last week or so....cream in the coffee and almonds as a snack....I've been eating a lot of the Costco Salad, I've had it four of the last five nights. I'm drinking lots of water, but I've not been sleeping well, maybe five or six hours a night for the last week...that may have something to do with. Had a great sleep last night of over eight hours and even took a two hour nap this afternoon which is unusual for me as I rarely if ever nap and then only for 45 minutes to an hour. I haven't had a glass of wine for about six days....when I open a bottle, I'll have a glass a night (I have a device which pulls the air out of the bottle so it stays fresh....BTW, that's always red wine. I've been exercising more and thought I had lost some inches if I had found the pounds I lost, but checked this morning and there is no change. I've checked back through the food log and my calories are running under 1300, fat is over 50%, carbs are running about 40 gms which is the same as the first couple of weeks with fiber running just at 20 gms....I had checked and I was running low on calcium (except for the supplement) so that's why I started putting a little dairy back in the diet....most an ounce or so of cheese, a quarter cup of cottage cheese, a glass of 2% milk whereas before I was doing Hood's...still have some of that left. Strawberries added this week, but still only a half a cup or so two or three times. Any suggestions? Mary |

Hi Mary, if you are doing Atkins, please lose the Grapefruit juice. It's far too carby.
Breakfast, I would suggest be bacon or another meat, two eggs and coffee. Drop the other stuff and if you need fiber, use sugar free Metamucil. Lose the Craisans, milk and switch to either half and half, light or heavy cream diluted with water, if you want a glass of "milk", and add in some broccoli, replace the salad with Romaine. Is that red wine a very dry wine? IMHO. I'm sure others will jump in with suggestions. |

Mary, I agree with Linda's suggestions. Does your log calculate the number of carbs? For me, I've found that if keep my daily carb count to 20-30 range, I'll lose weight. 40-50 range, I'll maintain. The trick will be to find what works for you.
The best thing that I can see from what you've written is that you have begun to make very healthy choices. So, even if you haven't started seeing it on the scale, your body still thanks you. Keep working at it! Michele |

Mary, what is OMM? I don't know what that is at all. What happened to that book you said was the best book in the world??
Let's see, since you asked, I'd too would lose the juice, any juice and the wine, too. I'd add real vegetables and not all that salad stuff, too many salad leaves. Do you count all the fat in all of those nuts and seeds? Sometimes it is too much fat, for your particular body. Too much water is a factor at our age also. Not enough protein. Have you tried just vegetables and protein, very simple and easy to do each meal, all those different measures and weights will drive you nuts, when you factor in that you have to do it for the rest of your natural life. Make it easier on yourself. What's the big rush now? Think healthy and lifetime, and not so many supplements. It's all easier said than done, and reading about it is easier than actually doing it, of course. Give yourself some slack. And your meds can also play a number on you. Take it easy................ |

Maybe you know the OMM (One Minute Muffin) as MIM (Muffin in A Minute) or the Atkins muffin...it's called a lot of things...was going to post a link but it's simply, in this case, almond and flax seed flour mixed with an egg, some flavoring and nuked for about a minute. Comes out like a muffin....yesterday I just wanted something a little different, so the muffin.
Thanx to all for your suggestions and they are all valid....the grapefruit juice was a one-time-only thing as I wanted something different. I've been using Crystal Light Morning as my juice, or an occasional glass of V8...those are six ounce glasses BTW. Sure miss the SF Tang, Big Food stopped making that. I use ****** as my food log and it can report all the nutrients (macro and micro) and you can even add your own special foods....I'm doing Atkins, with a nod to the future for South Beach. I love George Stella of Stella Style's recipes; I have all of his cookbooks and have even made a spreadsheet so I can locate a particular recipe in a hurry....not really using them, now, as I'm just "wingin' it." I've emptied cupboards of all carby things...fortunately I had a family to whom I give all that stuff. Breakfast today - 2 strips bacon, scrambled eggs, and zucchini blini...(shredded zucchini, egg beater, parmesian cheese, with a little Carbquick to hold it together...kinda like a hash browned patty) Got some zuke's I've got to use up. The book I was recommending, The No-Carb Revolution by John McLean is great, still perusing it as I transcribe my notes, but he also referred me to another, Wheat Belly by William Davis, MD, which is also really eye-opening...more on those later in the "reading" forum. Again, thanks for all your suggestions...I've gotta lose it this time...for me, as I really want to do this but the doc is offering Medifast to me if I don't show up the end of next month with some weight loss....I don't really want to do that so am making the effort to show him that I can lose it without going that route.... Together we can do it...mary |

Oh, lol, never made any of those "minute" thingees, I used to make dh healthy muffins, but he could only have one a day anyway, healthy or not, so I quit doing it, he never asks for them anymore, either. Perhaps Medifast would be easier for you, not so complicated with looking here and there for info, etc. I've never met anyone on any board I hang with, who eats "perfectly", day in and day out, and I don't think it's possible unless you live in a room somewhere with someone bringing in your food for you
Even Oprah can't do it, and she could afford to hire the people to hand feed her. It's too much stress to eat perfectly. And boring, which is the problem my husband has, I don't mind eating the same types of food over and over, but finding stuff to keep him happy keeps me on my toes every danged day! We take 4 days off a month. Those days are when we drive down to a city for blood tests and for doctor appts. and his shots that help to keep him alive. Don't let any of those books you read tell you that it's "easy", they are lying. Unless you can force yourself into being Obsessive/Compulsive that is. ![]() I gotta go back on the bike now ![]() |

Finally getting on LCF's to post. Been gone all day.
Mary, my husband is living by the recommendations in Wheat Belly and does think it is helping him Since we maintain, we would occasionally have a slice of low carb, sprouted flax toast, but he gave it up and said he isn't nearly as hungry as he was before. Anyway, since I have pneumonia, I didn't do too much walking today. Brunch was plain yogurt ( because of the antibiotic ) chicken thigh and some broccoli salad. Coffee No snack except coffee and diet tonic. Made a scampi over miracle noodles, green beans and coffee. Chardonnay tonight.
