Roll Call , Sat. April 28

Starting us off on this last Sat. in April. Hard to believe May is on the horizon.

Hope just to be able to sleep in late and zone out most of the day. Tomorrow night is another lacrosse game near here that one of my grandsons is playing in.

Great Good Saturday Morning Linda and all else.

Love that picture and he would get the fish anyhow just for cuteness. I had a fright of bears (nightmares) as a child (?) and was told by a Native American that made them my "talisman" which supprised me as I thought that had to be something you loved not feared. I adored the Cresent Moon Bear story that was in the book "Women Who Run With The Wolves" which I think should be a manditory sweet sixteen gift to every girl in the world. EVERY woman should read that book!!!!! In fact I think I will re-read it yet again now that I am in another (alas, the last) phase of my life.
WooHooo actually began some gardening yesterday and will be back out there again today. It is overcast and chilly this morning but should get very pretty later- haven't looked up the weather yet.
Hope Verleen's travels went well and was able to get help for that osteomylitis. Getting a going here.

Lainey, like I said yesterday.................we've got the sun and are going to keep it. It's another gorgeous morning.

Seriously starting to pack up, that's always hard for me. What to wear home, what to hang in the car, what to put in the suitcase We're trying to leave stuff here, but it's hard, "what if we need it in Iowa?"

I had my fried oysters last night, they were so good.

Washing up some clothes today, that's about it. It's going to be a hot one, already 78 degrees with 77% humidity.

I picked more Gardenias from a friend's house the other day, I put one in each of our rooms, they are so lovely, I love the fragrance. I'm seriously considering planting some next year.
Happy Saturday.

Phooey Ginny! my sun is there just hiding.

Love my gardenias. Have a long line of the "Miracle" ones that are so large and the smell as we all know is so "heddy". A tiny walk way with the gardenias along a fence and the other side of the walkway a line of peonies- my secret summer "place". They (gardenias) are huge shrubs now and I have to cut them back but let them go as tall as they want. Been pruning my Queen Elizabeth roses which I should have done in the late fall. The major, major job is weeding but they are all so tall they pull right up easily. Then to get my plants into the ground as soon as possible. Housework inside when the rains come if they do otherwise some housework after dark.
I can add just about constant heart burn from eating or drinking just about anything now. I am going to use Alka Seltzer from now on as the tums might be interfering with my thyroid meds. Ah, the mold years- oops the gold I mean.

Good morning and thanx for starting us off and for that site, Linda. Yes -she has that bacteria, not MRSA.

Laurie is home!! Spoke to her for quite a while today. What a positive attitude that young woman has. Walking is difficult both because of some muscle atrophy - she was in bed for a month - and it will take some time to rebuild the muscle in her right thigh where they took a chunk of thigh to regrow muscle and skin that the bacteria ate in her abdomen. I think she is most upset by her now round abdomen which previously was flat. Apparently the skin on your thigh is thicker than the skin on your abdomen so her body looks funny with this elevated round area. I told her to wait til she was 45 and then have the plastic surgery - tummy tuck and whatever else she needed when her bod would start to head south anyhow...she didn't think that was funny. I ordered them new blankets and pillows for their bed as Laurie is only permitted to sleep on her side for the time being so needs a bunch of pillows to prop herself up, and she needs her own blanket so Gabe doesn't inadvertently harm her when he steals the blankets. Wish I had known sooner; as Amazon won't deliver now til Wednesday.

Lainey and Mary - I never heard of that book...please describe

Ginny - Gardenias are lovely, but I have never been able to grow them except as a house plant.

As there has been a break in the rain - LOL in another month or so we will be praying for rain - more gardening on the agenda for today.

Hope this helps

Back up, still couldn't sleep, but at least I'm rested; maybe I'll plan on going to bed early tonight. Beautiful morning, temp pushing 70 at 8:30 and going up...still a beautiful day. The plants I re-potted last week really enjoyed what rain we got and are looking good, the peppers and cuke even have blossoms. Doing more house cleaning today and starting to plan a yard sale for later this month....gotta get rid of all my DH's tools and related paraphenalia. I'll see if I can get a neighbor to help. another long talk last night with one of my nieces; it's so difficult for a women who loses her mother this way (it was quick, expected but still hoping for more years together.

Begete: I hope you included a small pillow for the knees for Laurie. It really helps when you're forced to lay on your side...I even saw on The View when they did reviews of some of the As Seen On TV items that Whoopie (because she's a side-sleeper) was raving over a new pillow that is moldable, supposed to be great for air travel.

For those who are not familiar with the book, here's the beginning of the intro from Amazon...it was quite well received when it first came out....there's even a study guide available.
UPDATED, WITH NEW MATERIAL BY THE AUTHOR"WOMEN WHO RUN WITH THE WOLVES isn't just another book. It is a gift of profound insight, wisdom, and love. An oracle from one who knows."--Alice WalkerWithin every woman there lives a powerful force, filled with good instincts, passionate creativity, and ageless knowing. She is the Wild Woman, who represents the instinctual nature of women. But she is an endangered species. In WOMEN WHO RUN WITH THE WOLVES, Dr. Estés unfolds rich intercultural myths, fairy tales, and stories, many from her own family, in order to help women reconnect with the fierce, healthy, visionary attributes of this instinctual nature. Through the stories and commentaries in this remarkable book, we retrieve, examine, love, and understand the Wild Woman and hold her against our deep psyches as one who is both magic and medicine.

An interesting comment I heard the other day is that women really need the give and take of conversation with other women, that's one of the reasons I like this forum as I'm becoming estranged from my support group since I retired...oh, I see them occasionally, but it's not the same as seeing them daily. But back to the point, the talks with our friends is actually developed in our genes going back to the hunter/gatherer days. While the men were out on the hunt, the women hung together during and after the gathering....makes sense in a lot of ways...it's why we need the comfort of each other.

Thanks for sharing and hope I haven't rambled too long....Have a great day! and hugs to all

Today is a day (once a month, I think) to drop off rx drugs at the police station. I've had two bottles of very potent pain killers for several years so I brought them down. I've been wanting to get rid of them for a long time. One was mine and one was DH's and neither of them were ever used. Another chore done.

Hi Everyone,

I just came back from dropping off some old paint at the hazardous material collection place, been to the dry cleaners and grocery store, too. Now, I'm off to lunch with a friend -

See you all later on - I'm glad to hear that everyone is up and running today!

3 Books....

"Women Who Run With The Wolves"; "People Of The Lie"; "The Bible" .

Necessary in MY life.

Oh how I loved to read but cancer surgery and being unable to see well before my eye surgeries took me away from reading but I am longing to get back to that world. Last books read were so amazing... A Conspiracy Of Dunces and A Man Of The Circus were just incredable and I recommend them. Both should be movies. Dunces is very old (20's I think) but the other one is amazing movie material. Oprah bought the rights to The Life Of PI but has not done anything with that movie plans. Another very, very old book that is a must is "Penmaric" I loved that book. Masterpiece Theater has done that one I think but called it something else.

Back out to the garden as two neighbors finished mowing and I can breathe again. My eyes were streaming from the pollens.

Hi LoveMontana - Love that picture. Nice to see another "over 68 gal" here - and obviously doing well.

I love everyone's attitude here.

We are having a BarBQ at our house today to celebrate my husband's birthday. I am looking forward to seeing all my girls, their husbands and friends, and the filet mignon.

Linda, hoping the temps at the LaCrosse game will be more tolerable this time around.........

Julie, your tale of turning in meds reminds me that we still have 2 bottles of some stuff dh had to take right after the transplant, for only a year or 2 though, and we usually turn stuff like that in at the liver clinic, had forgotten to do that, will go right now and place them where they will be seen.

There is an "E waste" thing going on next weekend, hopefully we can remember to get rid of an old tv, problem is, lifting it up and getting it into the car. No teenagers around here anymore, only old folk.

I've gotta go out and play in the yard too, dead heading daffodil's at least. The neighbor's cat has taken a shine to our place, need to find out it's name, so we can try to pet it.........

Take care.

Hi All,

WE too had Sun up here today. Lovely for the Walk n Talk group this morning. We went around the Park and some of the boats are back in the water. The river looked cold though. It was a cold breeze off the water, we had our hats and gloves but so clear and sunny.
WE went in the sailing club for coffee and a chat. Then the group departed. Another lady friend and I walked the park again and chatted some more. It is her husbands first anniversary on the 30th so I wanted to be 'there' for her.

I got home and walked the dog for another 30 mins but none of the walking worked up any cardio just movement and fresh air basically. It was social too.

Lainey, I have copied and pasted those books to read. One day when I am not so scattered...

Pleasant dreams all. Hope to bbt...
