Sunday Roll Call, April 15, 2012
Wow - I never started Roll Call before in all these years!
I am headed off to my volunteer greeter job at the Rhodie garden this morning. I was so tired yesterday after working in the garden and then some friends took us out to dinner, I fell asleep by 10 pm, so here I am at 2:50 am typing this. Saturday, they tried to decrease Laurie's pain meds and briefly removed her breathing tube, but she became so agitated from the pain, they had to place her in restraints and put her under again with breathing tube. She was so distraught, Gabe was allowed to spend the night in a chair by her bed. We can't even imagine what "normal" is ever going to be for them....but she is alive against all odds.

Thanks Begete for starting us off today. Glad that the nurse was wrong about Laurie prognosis, thank goodness. Prayers for the family continue.
Enjoy your day at the Rhodie garden today. Looks like a wonderful Sunday here. The weather is beautiful. Got the sale papers and comics read. The Bowl event was very well attended and the food was very good. You could refill you bowl as often as you wished. Some of the bowls were hand made and others were bought bowls. Have a nice Sunday no matter what you do today and find some joy. |

Good Morning Begete, Loretta and those coming in.
Thank you Begete for the start off today. Yes it is so good that Laurie has survived and that Gabe is with her as much as he possible can be. I know that he is in a form of shock and will be so please advise him to be physically careful and aware of what he is doing in his activities. Prayers continuing here as well.
DD Ila called last night for the measurements for those rubber matts for my beautiful back bedroom steps DSIL made last year and also for a hanging screen (tension rod) that she is ordering from "Solutions" catalog. ALSO to invite me to their BBQ on June 9th. I am thrilled and will go June 6th thru the 14th... I know squeezing an extra day- I am a baaaad girl- shoot I wish it was for months. Gardening and housework today and using the vacay as a "get her done" 9 chores (and big ones at that) every day. One corner of my kitchen is so pretty and want the whole house and yard to match that. bbl Y'all all gave a good Sunday. Do we still have the challenges? I need one and think my birthday goal of debt free will also include weight loss of 10 + lbs. That is Sept. 30. Anita and I walked yesterday with 3 lbs. her and 2 lbs me weights in our hands. I want to see if I have some 3 lbs. ones as Mom & I together had several all weights of dumb bells- wonder why they call them that or hand weights as I call them.

Good morning everyone, Thank you for starting us off Babette. Wonderful news that Laurie has shown such improvement. It will be a long haul for her and Gabe, but they are young and strong.
Loretta, that Bowl event sounds delightful and very interesting. Did you take any photos? Hi Lainey, That June BBQ will be here before you know it, and you will have a wonderful time. We are signed up as volunteers at our local Tax Day Rally up in Watkins Glen. It's an all day event, so BBL. |

Great news, Begete. Glad to hear Laurie is doing better. If someone is coming in they will wonder how we think that is good news. But I'm thrilled.
Had a great day yesterday. Shopped a little and paid bills and DGS came to mow. I ended it with Peel and eat shrimp and a dvd. What fun. Today will be housekeeping chores, I fear. Enjoy your day. Julie, stay off that foot. BBL Anne |

Waiting for the Woooosh
Good Morning all....I've got to remember it takes time, patience and persistence...yesterday was day 14 of induction and I've lost a total of two pounds. Average calories - 1200, fat - 76, net carbs - 32 and protein -77
Aaaargh! If I were new to this WOE, I'd be so frustrated, disappointed, yes, frustrated, well, a little. I know it will come and I am feeling better and starting to move a bit and thinking of moving a bit more...I know calories out do not equal calories in but dang it's so hard to lose at this age. I remember the days I lost 14 pounds during induction and want to cry....well, thanks for letting me get it off my chest. I'm still good and still on the way...BTW, the book I mentioned in another thread, The No Carb Revolution, is excellent and I'm still learning quite a lot. Or rather, not learning as I've read it all before in Eades, Taubes, Atkins, et al, but finally getting it into my thick skull and really understanding it. McLean has the gift of gab and I feel like he's talking to me....Great Book. I've got you all in my prayers and my heart goes out to you, Begete, as I know the pain of the ICU as do we all; we don't make it this far down the road without a lot of pain...I am glad to be becoming a part of this world as you are all so caring, it comes through the net. I had one bright spot yesterday, the jeweler called with the info my ring was finished...my husband had given me a solitaire and wedding band for our 25th (when we got married, the ring was a simple band)...and we had decided to have a second band for our 50th. The jeweler had to make the second band as it is a unique shape,,,the ring is so beautiful, so I have those memories to add to all the others. Y'all have a good day and if you're in the path of the storms this week, I pray you and yours are okay. Mary in SoCal |

Good Day, friends, and thanks to Babette for starting us out. I feel so sorry for Laurie and Gabe, but thankful too, of course. Hope you can relax a bit today, Babette.
Lainey, how nice, to have an event in JUne to shoot for, that will help you alot, mentally. Anne, hoping you don't have too many chores to catch up with. Linda, have a "good time" at the rally today. Gladys, I too wish we had a newspaper here, it's been years since I've seen sale ads and stuff. Mary, the Beat Goes On, doesn't it? One day at a time. Loretta, the bowl charity event sounds interesting, I've heard of such a thing in Sacramento, but up here, of course, nothing like that would work. Glad it went well!! Wishing everyone else well or as well as can be maintained.

Good Sunday Afternoon All,
![]() Thank you Babette for getting us started. There is a first time for everything as they say and you did it. ![]() So sad to hear Laurie is getting agitated. I am sure we all would react the same way too. It will be a complete shock to her mentally and physically to be in that position. The human body is amazing and can withstand so much. That is encouraging news on the improvements. Mary, Hang in there, it all takes its sweet time. We just have to keep going meal after meal. I have managed to see some small changes which I cling to in the hopes to keep me going. Are you doing something physical too? I find that helps as we seem to become more sedentary as we get older. I have to kick myself in the butt, to get off it everyday. Enjoy your rings and the beautiful memories. They sound lovely. It is a cloudy day up here but temps are rising fast, seems strange for this time of year. The daffs are all up now with their proud heads...a host of golden daffodils... The tulips are coming up the greenery at least I don't see any buds of heads yet. I have a huge list of things that I need to do. I really feel in a resistant mode today. ![]() I will listen to Lainey and get 9 things done. Hope to bbl...

The day was great today. I got my chores out of the way early and got to watch a netflix movie that had me on the edge of my seat. Am going to grill some chicken now and have some steamed asparagus if I don't ruin this bunch like the last few I tried and failed to cook!! mush. if you forget it on the stove it turns to green mush!
Have a good evening everyone. Just checking if there was any word from Begete. hugs to all, Anne |

Hi all!
I didn't sleep at all last night finally go in an hour around 8:00 am. Don't know why? I went yesterday to buy new walking shoes - tried on everything and ended up with Nike Air. Hope they work out old shoes were hand me downs and I've put lots of miles on them. Mary - my weight loss is sloooow too! Five years ago it was much faster. But, it's going, I'm thinking my skin will shrink with it and won't hang so bad (trying to find a silver lining). Begete - still praying for your DIL here, hoping the pain will ease up for her. I'm making the adobo today with pork chops - had a bunch of them and fried some and they were very dry so hoping this helps out the meat. Have a great evening all! Coleen |

Hi all,
I made the Adobo chic. thighs today and Anita wanted to taste my version of her husbands way. Last time I made it was perfect and today of course it was too salty- must have used a tad more soy sauce as no salt was added at all because I know full well how salty Soy Sauce turns out in dishes. I have a lower salt soy sauce I will try next Sunday when I make it again. Of course I do not eat rice but the whole green beans were a very nice side with the Adobo. I love that chicken dish so much and want to get it just right to my taste- it called for pepper corns but I ground my own and will use lots more next time. Also fresh garlic next time too instead flakes I ground myself.
The walk with Anita turned out bad as she just about could not make it home. I wanted to jog ahead and get the Cherokee but she would not hear of that. We had carried our 3 lbs weights so of course I ended carring hers and mine all the way home. She takes statins and blood pressure meds as well as insulin and Lasics also. A Rx Vitimin D that looks scarey as it is so big and black. She seemed better when I called her to meet me at the back fence for the Adobo and string beans. When we were walking home I thought to myself that one step slower and we would be stopped but I did not mind. I am waiting for "The Apprentice" which cracks me up when one of those celebs has a melt down. Wish we could hear of Jezzie and Verleen. Hoping everyone else is feeling pretty good. Take care of that ankle- I can't imagine how you have been walking on that injury as the pain would be horrid. bbt need a small ice tea as my usual size would have me up and down all night. SWEET DREAMS everyone. ![]() |
