What a darling picture, Jezzie. I'm not sure my puppy and I would still be friends if I tried to dress her up!

Gladys, I don't worry about being alone. No guns, but I use prayer and a cell phone. Not necessarily in that order. I enjoy being alone, truth be known. Not being a widow but I like my alone time. If I had a gun I'd either shoot myself or my grandson and I'm not willing to take that chance. Whatever happens happens.

When I worked for a bank that got robbed at gunpoint I changed my view on a lot of things. It was not pleasant. Very scary. But I realized locks are for honest people and I had to trust the my God is in control.

Got some more errands to run today. My grill is out of gas and it is too hot to cook inside! Well, it is cooler inside than out but grilling just suits better in hot weather.

Hope everyone is holding their own this morning.

BBL,
Anne

No guns here.

I like being alone myself and do not see that changing at all. My neighborhood is dying off and going down hill kinda fast so I am more aware of that kind of thing but not afraid.
Sweet picture Jezzie and good to see Polo.
We got about 1/2 a bird bath full of rain last night and maybe more tonight early with a nice cool down for 4 or 5 days. Yeaaa.
Need my coffee but I gobbled my cereal while reading last nights and this mornings post.
Anne, I liked Wild Target but cannot remember the other one you liked?

Good Morning folks.

Up early, done with the bike, need to get into the tiny town for milk, bread and whatever odd thing, oh, Skinny Cow frozen fudge bars, lol.

More scared of drunk drivers than people coming into our house here, truth be told. When we live somewhere else, will see how that goes, it will sure be different though. Whole different feeling living near a city loaded with loaded people. When we traveled, there were nuts everywhere, all ages and stripes, can't really get away from them.

Have a decent day.

Interesting discussion about living alone. I like being by myself and being selfish with my time, using it as I see fit without having to account for it to anyone.
I am really not afraid to be alone. My one "weapon" is the extra set of car keys I keep at my bedside. I could just push the panic button. My car is right here in the attached garage. Do not care for guns, nor would I know what to do with one.
My DS and brother live in a Chicago suburb and have triple locks on the doors, both screen and inside doors. I could not live like that. I do have insurance if anything gets stolen. Cannot really see anyone wanting to take Me. I am not very pretty and also getting older by the day. I really don't have much in the way of material wealth that anyone would really want. They could find it at a yard sale.

Anne I like the way you said it:

Polo seems to be oblivious of the celebration. What a nice calm dog. Thanks for the pic Jezzie.

Doris is your moving to Texas a "serious" thought? That will be a big step for you and DH. Hope he is doing better.

Julie your family is just concerned for you and want to show that they love you. Just file all of their suggestions away for later. You will know what you want to do when the time comes. It will be a big adjustment for you, but you are not alone.

Thanks Gladys.

Hi girls,

Sun is out and temperatures around 75 by this afternoon.

One of our neighbors went to an assisted living home and her son had a yard sale this morning. DH got a sprayer and I picked up some really pretty little dishes and an old fashioned "juicer." (The juicer is going to FL.) She was a sweet lady and had a shitzu dog for about 13 years. He died unexpectedly and boy did she go down hill after that.

Tonight is DH's class reunion and "cake walk." On another DH note, the pill that he is taking for gout is NOT working too well. I'm hoping the amount can be increased. The other pills he got from the ER worked so well but he can't take them because he's on coumadin and those pills can cause stomach bleeding. Always something.

Jezzie, I like Tara's hair pulled back, she looks even younger, IMO. It probably makes her waist look smaller too.

Begete, hope you're doing better today.

Ginny, maybe your Dh just needs to be on the new pill (allopurinal) for a while for it to build up in his blood stream. Hope he can be patient.

Begete I think you need to at least go to the er and see what the doc has to say. It has been a while and you seem to be no better.

Just returned home from DGD riding show. She placed 3rd and recieved a white ribbon in the 7 to 10 year old category. She is not 7 till next month. She was so proud, so nervous before it all started. She looked quite professional with all the gear on. Will try to post a pic eventually. The weather stayed fine with a cool breeze so it was pleasant the weatherman had predicted rain coming in after lunch so we were at the ready with rainjackets and umbrella's but is stayed sunny and fine. DS and I left after 3 hours. The other riders are still going on.
DD is doing a BBQ for another couple and their children that were in the show and has invited me over for an hour or so tonight, not sure if I want to go. DS is going to dinner and play with an older plantonic girl friend tonight. I may just stay home and watch some TV.

Lainey, Loretta,
Yes, I agree I like my own space and time. I find having the two little dogs my security blanket. I may just start to keep a second set of car keys at the bedside good tip Loretta.

Good to see your post Kris and Julie.

Thanks for that reminder about the car keys, Loretta. Have read it somewhere, but it goes in one ear and out the other until something happens or is on the news cast. Does anyone have one of those security services, my mil has that, she was broken into and beaten up at a mobile home park, the person had keys to get it, mil had all kinds of prettying up done to the place when she bought it, but never had the locks changed!!! It was a boyfriend of the lady's daughter that did it, he still had his keys.

Off to do kitchen work.

Begete, hope you don't have a long wait at the ER.............

What a horrid story, Doris. Hope your mother pressed charges and all that. Whew. I should change the locks on my house. Even after 2 years I worry about who has keys. I have an alarm service and set it at night. I should set it when I'm not home but have not gotten in the habit.

CONGRATULATIONS to your DGD, Susan. What a delight. I know you were proud as punch. And don't worry, her grandfather knows and is proud, too. I vote you stay home and enjoy the quiet and watch some mindless tv and pet doggies. LOL...like I have any say at all.

Went to the store to pick up my weekend indulgence of a cupcake and they had their baby back ribs on sale so I impulsively bought a rack. I put them into my DD Korean marinade and will have them tomorrow. Got my grill gas filled today so I'm all set!!

Hope Begete will check in tonight and let us know what the ER said.

Waving to everyone.

It's official. I have pneumonia. They wanted to admit me, but I felt I would get more rest and recouperate faster at home.

additional worry is that the Xray showed a "spot" of some sort - unrelated to the pneumonia on my lung.

and I need to fly to Los Angeles in less than 2 weeks for our son's wedding!

Love being alone and value my privacy. Unfortunately I don't have enough alone time.
However I'll keep my guns, thank you, even though most of you don't approve of them.

I was brought up with guns all my life by my military and hunting dad, so I do know how to use them. Plus I have taken all the safety classes and more than required for my licenses.

Begete, so sorry to hear of pneumonia and spot.

My neighbor has a spot on his lung and they just keep watching for it to change on the x-rays and for over a year it is the same. He stopped his pipe smoking but I smell his wonderful aroma from all the way across the street again.
I hope you can do the bedrest for the full time before the wedding. Please, no cooking, cleaning, going out, entertaining, gardening... some how I just do not see that happening. You will start to feel too good and forget all about bed rest and you WILL relapse and be worse than you were to begin with.
Sending good vibes your way and hoping for the best outcomes for you and John.

Hope to see some pictures of Ella on that horse Susan. If you go to the dinner at your DDS hope you feel comfortable there. I never seem to quite fit in with my kids friends, must be a generation gap.

Linda I think it is great to be able to handle guns and know how to use them. I just have never been exposed. My Dh had a gun and when a cousin, in law of mine popped in for a visit Dh had that gun under his pillow. The cousin was sort of wierd.

Sorry to hear about that pneumonia Begete. Get all of the rest you can. Are you able to take any rx at all. Musonex sometimes help. Prayers for you on the way.

That's a shame that your MIL got into such a fix by not changing her locks. That idea about having the car keys handy came from somewhere else, but I have forgotten where.

Good evening all-

Just gave the dogs their evening walk - one at a time - and have battened down the hatches for the night. DH has a gig at BB King's in NYC. They're supposed to play from 8 pm to 2 am, but may get a break if there is hip hop on the schedule in the "big room." A blues band is not a favorite of the hip hop people, so the guys can sign off at 12:30 if that's the case (I hope).

Am baking chicken that needs to be used. Cooking has gotten weird now that dh is working evenings and the commute is so far. He's generally not that hungry when he gets home (between 11 and midnight usually) but appreciates it when I do cook, so I'm trying to get back into the habit. Certainly healthier for me if I plan and cook something balanced. Do you ladies who live alone ever cook a full meal for yourselves? I know, I should check the menu pages - just being lazy.

I'm still unpacking boxes and discovered a cabled sweater knitting project which I'll work on tonight while I watch TV. It's one of those that has been in progress for over a year. If I do a little each night, I might actually finish it!

Begete, so sorry to hear about your pneumonia. I had it two years ago and it seemed to take forever to get my energy back. Rest a lot! Try to sleep propped up if you can. And, as someone else mentioned, see if you can get some codeine cough syrup. My doctor told me (and I can attest to it) that it's the only kind that works. Also, please consider driving or taking the train to your son's wedding, if you can. The air in plane cabins is really foul, especially if you have a pre-existing lung condition. Sorry to be so opinionated - I've had chronic lung ailments for years. I also hope that the spot that was seen is benign.

Susan, I cannot wait to see photos of your DGD. How exciting to have a junior equestrienne champion!

Sending good thoughts to everyone. Need to go check on my chicken.

all the best,

-Louise

We have had guns around all our lives,I guess it's the Cajun way.I would hate for the crooks to be the only ones with guns.I'm very surprise that Wayne has no gun unless it's JW thing.Everyone I know has guns.I know if DH leaves the room then returns he has his pistol(if someone is here that he is finding things not right)He brings his pistol/shotgun/rifle,one of them, with him,in plain site when he goes to the other farm.
Well enough of my fears, you guy are better than me.
Didn't get much done today but the usual.

Sorry about that pneumonia. I manage to get it at least once a year for the past 10 years.

Louise, LOL hope you can finish that knitting project.
Took me 14 years to finish an afghan.

Loretta, your DH was a smart and cautious man. Good for him for being so protective.

Gladys, Happy to hear you and your Dh are wise and do agree that crooks shouldn't be the only ones to have guns. They always manage to get them, even in areas where they are illegal.
