My first venture into non-Green Giant asparagus - I'm hooked

Good Morning .....

I'm sure I cooked those poor babies to death but I thought they were delicious.
Light brown and crispy on the outside (tasted caramelized) ... and tender inside.
And ..... I garlic. lol.

The Military Macaw, Ara Militaris, is a beautiful bird that makes a magnificent pet.
His coloring is predominantly green with hues ranging from olive to emerald green.

The feathers on his lower back and rolling down to the top of his tail feathers are a brilliant turquoise.

The Military Macaw’s tail feathers are a mixture of sky blue, burgundy, and streaks of green.
The underneath of the tail feathers are a bright lemon yellow.

The name Military Macaw probably was given to this macaw because members of the military
were the first to begin importing them from Mexico to Europe.
Military Macaws have a reputation as being biters and difficult to manage.

However, a properly trained and cared for Military Macaw can be a loving, affectionate pet with
little or no tendency to bite. Providing your military macaw with a large stainless steel bird cage
with adequate room for exercise is essential in keeping your Macaw healthy and happy.

Those are both gorgeous asperagus and gorgeous birds. Enjoyed seeing both.
My Daddy used to like the canned asperagus. The rest of us food snobs in the family had to have the fresh. One night my mother put a can in a bowl on the table for my Dadddy and the cat snuck up on the table and ate the entire can out of the bowl. Ya'll all could have heard my mother scream at that cat. Daddy waited for fresh from then on.

Another gorgeous day on tap for Middle Georgia. Lainey, I took my electric blanket off last weekend and have regreted the decision for a week now. Hate to drag it out and put it back on but I might have to...good call on your part!!

Have a wonderful day everyone.

We missed getting the frost last night but we're still under a warning for tonight. I hope it misses us again.

Have to run to the drug store for mom. Other than that, it should be a quiet day.

Beautiful sunshiny weather here in Ky. with temps on the 80s. Too warm too early.

I am waiting to plant for another week or so. I ordered up some caladium bulbs and will look for some non messy flowers for my planters. I have to keep them up on my porch because of the hot concrete and sun in the afternoon. I am thinking I will get begonias this year.

All of that asparagus looks delicious. I did freeze some for myself but did not use a gallon container in water, (how would I thaw that for a few pieces????) so I blanched them in a 9/13 pan and set them on a cookie sheet to freeze individually and then put them in a freezer bag. Hope that works.

Thanks Jezzie for the info on the Military Macaw. Now we have an idea of what Gladys is seeing every day. Beautiful birds.

This morning I went to visit some of our parish sick with Fr. He will be leaving for India next week and will be gone for a month. His Dad is sick and had a stroke a while back.
He is all about the new technology. So many temptations.

Hi to all.

Wow, this little vacation is fast coming to a close. Not ready for that.

All the Iowa folks got together this evening for a dinner of ribs/chicken/potato salad, etc. and homemade ice cream. Most everyone will be leaving this week so it was like a goodbye "till later" dinner.

Meant to tell you that there is a hoot owl in the woods and we get to hear him almost every evening. Enjoy seeing all the alligators too. Mosquitos are awful because of all the rain FL has had.

Meeting the group for breakfast at the Clubhouse in the morning, I will get a piece of toast!

Gee Ginny, after a dinner like that, you would think the Iowan's would leave you more than toast!! It seems as those you just left!! My goodness, time flies.

Jezzie, dh and I just got a CD player 3 years ago, have used it 5 times since then, really only play CD's in the car when we drive down the Feather River Canyon where the satellite radio won't work, lol. Only have maybe 20 CD's in the first place. I am still angry at the companies that put CD's out instead of leaving us the cheap cassette tapes!!! How much does it cost to use/access that I-Pad thingee?? I heard it was $130 a month, is that right?? I've not laid eyes on an Ipod, is it like a cell phone?? Smaller than a blueberry?

It is still cold here, showered off and on, had to wear a sweater to go out to get the mail, dh had the woodstove primed up because the house was so chilled.

Anne, that danged poison ivy/oak stuff is miserable, do you know where you picked it up?? Do you get it often?

I had a good dinner of 3 cups of cauliflower and asparagus, minced garlic, green onion, flaxmeal, hot salt, and 1/2 cup egg whites. Having my dark chocolate now, no time earlier.

Pleasant evening friends. Did you DO something movement wise today??

I never paid too much attention to them Doris.
I'd say the iPod is about the same size as a cell phone. With ear buds.
Tara has an iPad, iPod and a Blackberry phone.
When she texts she looks more like a twenty year old than forty-one.

Ginny: All good things do come to an end too quickly.
Now you have to try not to wish your life away until next. Jan.

Father is a missionary priest from India, Jezzie. We have few American priests anymore se we have become a mission country in that respect. There are several priests from Father's order in the near by counties here. Some of their priests go to Italy, Africa or whereever they are needed.

Father has an ipod for phone, internet access etc. He was showing it to me today and it is like a small computer in itself. He can also take pictures with it. He pays about $80 a month to use it. It also has a small virtual keypad.

I have a combination cd/dvd player that I use almost daily. When I rent movies I use it instead of the player I have for the tv because I can use the ear phones with the portable one. I get better reception that way.

Anne you could try some Witch Hazel on that poison ivy. It might be best to see the doc for a shot.

Ginny hope you have safe travels home.

That's an interesting story Loretta, and you are lucky to know this man too.

Jezzie, thanks for your remark about the "wishing our lives away", we were talking about tending to do this at breakfast this morning in fact. I have a problem with doing that, useless act really. Hard habit to break though. But I needed the reminder!!!!

Things sure have changed since I was a kid. ... Irish cops, firemen and priests.

We had three for our parish ... Monsignor Kelly and Fathers O'connell and Connors.
The kids were scared to get Monsignor Kelly for confession on Sat. afternoons. lol.

My older daughter has a number of good friends from India. She spent a month there.

Off to beddy bye..

vacation food sure sounds gooood.
Doris, tonight I did arm curls during the commercials of Biggest Loser and Chopped with 2 lbs weights. I am happy to report that.
I did not feel good today at all so mostly layed about. Fasting for that blood work always does me quite in. I started clearing and cleaning the "stoop" under the awning at the front door but gave up right away- just felt kinda sick.
Off to sleepville after a little reading. I will put out the cat before I go to sleep I think as he always wakes me up a few times during the night and I do not sleep as well as I do when he is in his warm garage with all the other guys.
bbt gosh I am chilly and light rain for tomorrow with chilly weather for the rest of the week but lord knows it will be hotter than you know what soon enough.
E.

Good for you doing those "curls" Lainey!!! It all adds up at some point. I forgot that the "Loser" was on tonight too. Hope you feel better after a good nights sleep tonight.

I'm chilly in here again tonight too, wonder if I'm just getting old or something, I don't recall feeling chilly so often during other winters.

Wonder if most of you have gone to bed?? Funny how I'm the only one on the west side of the coast on several boards I post on. Does that mean I'm the only one on the west coast with weight issues??
