Roll Call:Friday, February 5th
Good morning The onlt thing 'planned' for today is some food shopping tomorrow. Tara is going to Jamie's to water his plants - she couldn't do it Wednesday. (Hopefully they survived the freezing temps.) So she asked if I wanted to do some food shopping with her. Oh, and Central Hudson called Tara, at 1:00 am Thurs. morning, four hours after they had arrived, to report that the power was back on. Be back in a bit. . Good morning. I hope Jamie and Wen's plants are okay.
Today, well, its more scanning, but I see the end in sight. After what I get done today, I'll only have just a few more pictures that other people can find for me. My ex is sending me a picture of his grandmother at the beach in a bathing suit way back when. I would love that one with the old time bathing suit in the heritage album. As I am scanning pictures, I am throwing them out. Declutter. And they are preserved on disk. So, I have decided to scan in all the pictures and put them on disk and throw out the paper pictures. After I get the heritage album done. I'm getting excited about the space I'm gaining in the closet and one 6 drawer storage tower that's filled with pictures. I am saving the pictures of other family members and will give the pictures to them. Today we are testing out the new liquid valium on Taco, our female caique parrot. When we take her to the avian vet to get her nails/beak trimmed, she goes into seizures. The last one was serious and one of them will kill her some day. So we're testing the valium today to see what dose to give her that makes her laid back but still able to safely perch. And how long before it takes effect and how long it lasts. Valium is fast and short acting and tricky to nail it down with birds. Besides calming her, it also has anti-seizure properties. Tomorrow Rich and I are going to the Winter Carneval at Saranac Lake. They build a life-size castle and light it up from inside. After the illumination, they are having fireworks at the castle. We are going up - 3 hr drive - in time to have dinner there. So I will wear double layers of clothes, my electric warming socks, and have plenty of blanket throws. Its suppose to be quite cold up there tomorrow. BBL to see what pictures Jezzie puts up and see what everyone is doing today.

Good morning my new friends,
Eating is still on plan which is big news here!!! I usually cheat...this time I am doing better. I don't weigh so I don't know if it is working but I'm still hanging in. My head is better today. Yes, Elaine, that was me with a migraine. The doctors all said my head would be better or worse with menopause...I see no change either way. Luckily they do not last for days like yours did. We have had more rain today. The patio is getting full even. I hope it drains or we will have water in the kitchen...I don't think it will get that high...opleaseoplease. Have a wonderful day, ya'll...stay warm and dry... Anne |

Good Morning folks!
Jezzie, when we leave the house alone up here, we have to empty all the pipes and shut the water heater off, and set the temp for 60 degrees. It is a pain in the but to empty the pipes, but everyone does it, lol. Last time we went to Reno in December and they had that big freeze of 20 below, our pump to the well was frozen, so had to put a small heater in there and lucked out that it defrosted by the next day. Winter fun times, you guys will be glad to be done with it too. My my, hope the house is ok for those plants to be alive. Hi Verleen, I would cry to toss away old paper photos..............I guess I'll have to let others do it for me at some point. Hope that Winter Carnival is great, are you taking photos of that too?? Dress up snuggy! Hello Anne, good for you for sticking to the "plan", sometimes a person goes off but it isn't a "cheat" or a "sin", please don't think like that. ![]() ![]() Did first 2 hrs. on the bike, have to fix my breakfast and get some chores done. Had alot of rain, the rest comes tonight. Snow only in the higher elevations like Lake Tahoe. Have a pleasant day, get in some Movement of some kind too. ![]() Doris |

Our grandsonis playing BenFranklin ina thing at his school and so we are goingto drie doen thee this afternoon to see him. More snow today, but at least it's warmer! No big plans for the weekend. A little grocery shopping. Then I'll start getting some clothes together to take to FL next weekend. I'm looking forward to that! In the middle of winter up here it's hard to rmember what to wear when it's 75! Verleen...what an ambitious project getting all those photos scanned! I have plans to do stuff like that when I finally retire next year! Good luck with the parrot! We have a winter carnival here in ST. Paul, MN too. Many years they have built those ice palaces and lit them up. It is very cool to see! Anne/...sorry about your headaches Doris...did you really do 2 hours on a bike? I am impressed!

Hi all,
Snowing here but it's 34 degrees, so it's messy, but that's ok. DH has a gig tomorrow night and we want to be able to get there. Looks like we'll be able to. Had to go out this morning and get some B12 pills and Vitamin D. Had blood work done this week and both of those are low. Not unusual for those of us over 60, at least that's what I've heard. Also had an MRI done this week and it showed bulging discs in my neck along with bone spurs. Hence, the pain in my arm/elbow. No wonder PT wasn't helping, glad I stopped going. I'm supposed to be seeing a neuro-surgeon but he hasn't contacted me yet. Jezzie, I'm waffling on the reunion, have you made a decision yet? The one friend I was hoping to see (besides you) is not going. There are not many people I feel I want to see. However, I'd really like to get back and see Yonkers, etc. Could really do that anytime, so there you go. OK, going to get my book and settle in, good day to sit and read. Ginny |

Just a quick check-in... I've got a sore throat, body aches, with headaches that last through the night. Ugh... I will be exercising, but as far as food goes, I am tempted to grab anything that is ready-to-eat because I don't have energy to prepare any of "my" foods. Haven't yet, but just sayin'....
Hope to check back in soon and actually acknowledge everyone and offer encouragement. |

Doris, I still have those pictures but they are digital now. And improved from the originals in many cases because I removed the tears, cracking and pealing color, etc. Really old pictures, late 1800s and early 1990s held up better than the ones from the 60s. I had, as did many in the family, one of those cheap 110 cameras. They pictures are deteriorating at a rapid rate. Its a good thing I'm scanning them, because they would soon be lost forever.
So, when I throw the scanned pictures away, nothing is lost and alot is gained - more space in a small house. |

Well the plants seem to be ok - I say ok because they never seem to be flourishing. lol.
Over spent my 'assumed' budget by nine and change and ate two chocolate truffles. ooops. Raini: Hope you feel better soon. I dislike sore throats - guess nobody likes them. Haven't had one in years and years. Ginny: Leaning towards not going now. I'm figuring it would be about $650 - $700 for one dinner. I'd love to see you and Ruth but I probably wouldn't see anyone else I'd remember well. However, if I don't go - and you ever do come back to this area - Metro North could have me in Yonkers in less than an hour. ![]() Gotta go - someone just pulled into the driveway. Verleen, that is what my dd2 does for a living. That is why I call her my Guru!! She is so smart. I had all my digital pictures stored on the computer but had not made a disc..then got hit by lightening the first month I lived in Florida...who knew it was the lightening capitol of the world!!! I thought the last 3 years of my husbands life was gone for good. We got them, somehow. I now have all the pictures on a disc..in fact 2 discs...on at home and one at the bank!!!!
I'd be nervous to throw the paper pictures away, too. But it makes sense...to the head...the heart is a different story. Sorry you aren't feeling well, Raini, hope you make it through without getting too discouraged on the WOE. I sure understand. Even though it isn't a "sin", Doris, it is discouraging to have a lapse. No ice cream in the house...so it is harder to lapse!! Anne |

Hello everyone,
sorry you are feeling poorly Ranie- just nuke some chic. stock or beef (vegg stock only for me) and sniff the steam from it. Best medicine I can think of- salt is a problem though.
Been plugging away the live, long day on the book shelves in the computer room and have it set up pretty well with a "Medical", "Travel", "Gardening", "Bible and faith", "Veggitarian", "Fiction- Poetry-Bios, etc."... section of shelves finally sorted and can get to what I am looking for instantly. I still have a real cook books section as some are just too good to part with. Dang! it is colder than a "Witches Titty" here but I cannot go under the elec. blankey as I have a Netflix to watch and will not get out of the bed once I am toasty. Will make some hot tea instead- mint sounds good. bbl I gotta warm up with that tea and put on some more clothes layers. Raining hard here with snow tomorrow- just north of Norfolk is blizzarding with 2 (TWO) feet going to pile up by tomorrow. WOW that is a lot of snow. Elaine![]()

Hey to All,
Just a quick check in. My mom is doing well. Slowly getting a bit of strength back and appetite getting better also. ![]() Booked my return flight for Monday....I'm missing my kids and husband. Eating is fine...don't think I'm losing (not enough exercise) but hopefully not gaining. It's snowing here. I think it's snowing in the mountains at home as the family is headed up to try and ski tomorrow. Verleen! You are my hero....I so want to get my photos to digital. Probably will only get done when I can look myself in a room for a few days. It's truly a gift for your family....I'm so bummed that my folks just have tons of photos in boxes.....some people I'm not sure who they are or when they were taken. I'm hoping to get mine on discs to give to my kids as well. hang in there everybody! Eileen

Just saying Nighty Night.
Jack Hanna is on D. Letterman so after that it is the elec. blankey for me to listen to the pouring rain and read old newpapers and do the word puzzles "Criptoscript" or something like that- very relaxing. Just watched a really totally excellent Netflix- Sweedish film "ELLING" rent it as it was so good. Still waiting for Jack to come on. Gladys do you have SADD? I use a desk "Verilux" and do think it has made a difference this winter. Theres JACK! bbt E. |
