Tomboy or Girlie-Girl?

Girlie- Girl. That predilection started very young - before I even have memory of it.

In the winter of my life I'm more neuter gender but deep in my heart I'm still girlie-girl.

Athletics....definitely a girlie-girl though I did play tennis for some years. Not a camper, give me a good old fashioned motel.

Intellectually though, hmm, guess I am more tomboy. Was the only girl in a lot of classes, drafting, engineering physics and computers. (Today that would not be the case.)

I would rather drive the car than be driven. I am more inclined to be the person to put together the furniture or fix things in the family.

But, I love girlie things. I always had a wonderful paper doll collection with homemade drawn clothes. Love my jewelry, cheap or expensive.

Help! I think I am a split personality.Thanks a lot Jezzie.

I think I am part both at the same time being a plain preson. Don't care for scents or make up. My hair is cut short and just a wash and wear do. I do prefer some men's clothing over women's. I do have a dress or two but do prefer pants.

I do have a soft side and consider myself a hugger with a soft spot for the elderly.

* English, philosophy, psychology and history.
* Tried to put a cardboard storage box together. Had to call Darren.
* Maybe twice I had someone in my car and they weren't driving

Well darn. Hope that doesn't mean I'm a Magnolia Blossom.

Most of my life - a tom boy. As I've aged, just can't be that anymore.

Like Janie, I worked in a man's field, as it was back then. Enjoyed the directness of men. Because of working with mostly men, I acquired a direct manner too. Coming from a woman, people are sometimes put off by it.

Played tackle football when I was a teen. Never liked dresses and thought I looked silly in them. I was usually the car driver.

Now I am comfortable in jeans and t-shirts. No jewelry please, except for my wedding band. I refused to allow Rich to buy me an engagment ring. A waste of money and I didn't want to wear it.

Isn't it interesting how people change over the years though, and it's everyone due to life's challenges.

Thanks for this thread Jezzie!

Old Doris, who can't wear perfume due to allergies, but used to collect many scents. I guess I saved money that way, lol. And I'm looking for high heels to wear to son's wedding in May, but not THAT high heel, don't even know if they make lower heels come to think of it.

Do you guys wear nylons or panty hose, EVER, or just go solo??

Not if I can help it. - In the last decade I did three times that I can remember.
They were for three of the five weddings I attended.

A bonafide member of the Transitional Generation between the Traditional and Baby Boomers.

A jeans and pant suits gal. Never owned heels higher than 2" - usually 1.5.
Love my scents, makeup, Victorian bedrooms, lace curtains - and love songs.
(Don't read Harlequins or watch Lifetime Movies however. )

And this.

I suppose that puts me in the tomboy camp. I've recently started to admit, grudgingly, that pink is actually a flattering colour, but it does go against the grain.

I'm not at all athletic, or sporty though. Apart from a childhood spent climbing trees (mostly so I could find somewhere quiet to sit with my book).

Hmm...

Leaning more toward girlie-girl. Though I wear pants and sneakers almost constantly, I love my collection of velvet shirts and my earring collection. Still have high-heeled "dancing shoes," though they haven't been out for a couple of years.

On the other hand, I was very good at advanced math and science, the only girl in my high school physics class, loved building things, and have always been mechanically inclined.

Sports were frowned on in my family (too risky for piano playing hands) other than swimming and gymnastics.

So, a mish-mosh, maybe?

As to the nylons question...

I am a pale face with legs that are as white as a fish belly, so in summer, if I wear skirts they are very long with shorts underneath (to prevent thigh chafe). In the winter I wear opaque tights - usually black - or leather boots.

I read in some fashion advice thing that flesh colored nylons are very dated, so when I get dressed up I usually wear a tint of black or gray. And, by the way, I never, ever, ever wear control tops. Ick. Uncomfortable and double ick!

Very interesting topic! I guess I am a blend of both.
as a kid I was a total doll freak! But I also played army with the boys in the neighborhood.
I liked dressing up and still do for an occassion, but wear more pant suits to work these days. I wore pantyhose until about two years ago when I gave up skirt suits. hate it now!
I work in what is a pretty male dominated professon (prison warden), but still kept my soft side.
I love that my 2 DGD are girlie girls, but also smart, good at math and play some sports.

I guess balance is a good thing!!

Tom-boy all the way. I hate scents, wear men's shoes and boots and have worked as a carpenter most of my life.

Emotionally, I have a softer but well hidden side.

I'm so girlie it is pathetic. But self sufficient as well. Very independent. Like to dress up but don't do it too often anymore. Guess I can be girlie in jeans! I even have sweatshirts with ruffles!
Hose? NO thanks. Since I don't work outside the home any longer I choose pants or long skirts.

I grew up pretty tomboyish. I'm kind of a happy medium now. I'm a bit rough around the edges, but I like to look good.

Mostly girlie-girl... love to look soft, lacey and feminine. On the other hand, I almost always wear Birkenstocks and hate high heels... not because of how they look, but because of how they feel. I want to be comfortable!

And the pantyhose issue... pretty much just wear them for weddings and for formal nights on cruises. However, because I belonged to Silkies Pantyhose Club while I was working, I own enough pantyhose, still in their little packages, to never have to buy another pair as long as I live.... providing I don't live past 104!

I'm a girlie girl..............I love dressing up in cute boots and hats, wearing perfume etc. (treebunny- you wouldn't like me- I wear perfume everyday)
But I can also whistle like a man (great for concerts) and I will bait a hook and camp and hike.
