Nope (gone at age four).

Removing them at the first tonsillitis appearance stopped before my children came.
Laureen had tonsillitis three times and they left hers in.

lol Gladys !!!!!!

Yeah, I remember that they used to remove them almost at the drop of a hat!! Now they don't do that anymore, I don't think. My sons still have theirs. Of course, now the surgeons can make a bundle just cutting the fat off of alot of folks..............so they still get their fees in somehow.

Minerva, the lists of symptom's for the swine flu says sore throat is not one of them, high fever and coughing, lungs congestion is the main thing the powers that be warn against. But it's a pain to be sick, no matter what. Do they have lines of people in England trying to get the H1N1 vaccine, as they do over here? I'm curious.

Gladys is so sneaky funny, lol. Gladys, do you have an accent, or do you just think everyone else does??

LOL! This one really hit home so I have to share!

I once had a license plate that read: 8NO4RE I had problems with people tail-gating me while they were trying to see what it said. One day I was at a school, standing at the counter in the office when a young man came in, looked at me and said, "Ain't no Ferrari, right?" I replied, "Right!" while the secretaries just stared at both of us, not having a clue as to what we were talking about.

A few minutes later I walked back out to my car, and the young man was staring at my license plate. He looked at me and said, "It took my friend and I half an hour to figure out what that says." He paused for a moment and then continued: "At first I thought you were trying to say you had no ovaries!" I replied, "That's not it!" I'm sure my face turned redder than a beet as I got into my car.

Yep... still have tonsils and ovaries!

mykneesareback: Yes, I checked out the signs and symptoms for Swine Flu and nothing seemed to fit. I've had a badly infected throat, with serious swelling, a chest infection and cough (but nothing like I would have got if I were still smoking!), and now conjunctivitis - must be a pretty virulent strep/staph. I've managed with over-the-counter meds because I did not think it fair to take such powerful germs to the GP's surgery, with SF around. (I don't know anyone personally who has/had SF.)

As for SF vaccine in the UK... We are told that there are enough doses for half the population (about 30million) and moreon the way. Vaccinations only started about 10 days ago. There are no queues, because it is only being given to the most at risk - health workers, babies and young children, pregnant women, people over 65 or younger who have conditions that put them at higher risk. Anyway most of us don't think it's a big deal - just a bad dose of flu, unless we're in a higher risk group.

Well, I wish you to feel better soon Minerva, this time of year has it's qualms allright though. We were watching English soccer this morning, and it poured rain off and on throughout the whole game, that weather doesn't help either I expect. Here also they warn people to stay at home instead of going to the doctor because a person can catch more by going there. They have a huge display when you walk in our clinic with those wipes and tell you to clean yourself up, then to go in, and if you have a cough or are transmitting something, to tell them right away, and they make you sit somewhere else besides the regular waiting room in fact.

Nope.
Got them out when I was 5...along with my little brother getting his out at the same time, so he was about 3. One of the nurses and doctors took us to a room and were playing with us by putting us on a chair and spinning us around. I remember throwing up blood as I spun around....more funny than scary I thought then....
Ended up with some sort of infection too, remember getting IV's and stuff.
Weird what you remember.

Yep. Was going to have them removed when I was 14, but cancelled it to go to the beach. 10 years later, having them saved my life when I got a serious sinus infection, and my tonsils caught the infection instead of it going into my system. My older son had his out when he was 21, and had a very hard time of it.

Since the days when they removed them routinely, they've found that they are very valuable indeed, as I found out first hand. My son had to have his removed because of serious tonsilitis every year that was totally debilitating.

I trust the English NHS more than I trust ours in the U.S., which is sad.

It seems like that take more gall bladders out these days than tonsils or appendix.

Come to think of it, I've have heard of alot more folks having that procedure done lately too. And the way they do it is different than the "old" days.

Have you guys had those "shingles" shots?? I'm as worried about the "shingles" as I am about the H1N1 actually. One of our acquaintances had shingles last spring and still has pain nowadays from it, the meds don't really help either.

I'm not overly concerned with shingles, but do plan to get the vaccine after my next visit with the MD. No sense taking needless chances.
