Roll Call: Wednesday, November 4th
Happy 'fall morning' Goldens ..... You know it's fall when: your sweetie in So. Louisiana takes a blanket out of the linen closet. So alien to me to think of a house without heating (except for space heaters). - Guess it's alien to others that I don't have central air in my house. ![]() Today is my twice monthly 'girls night out' with my daughter Tara. - Nails, shopping, eat. Don't think I can deal with another big Italian meal. My jeans snap is already hurting now. lol. So I asked her if we could just do Ruby Tuesdays. (Many good salad options there.) Her little size 2 self is probably relieved. ..... She eats out three of four nights a week. |

Good Morning.
What an adorable picture. That smile can chase away the blues or the blahs anytime. How precious! Off to do the right thing today, eat right, exercise, and enjoy working on setting up my sewing space in the old guest room. I need that spot to just get away from the dog, cat and telephone for a couple of hours a day. Our pets are still children and they're clingy when I am around. I thought I no longer needed to have a special space when the last child left the nest. ![]() Have a good day everyone. Judy |

Good morning all-
Jezzie, I can see why you love that photo! What a radiant smile! Makes you feel so happy. Today I am going to go hard charge on the dollhouse I am building, trying to get it done and up for sale before the holiday shopping season is over. Will post photos once I get dh to take some. Have a lovely day everyone! -Louise |

Nice day out,sun shining,no rain.
We had space heaters for a long time until we put in central, that was in the old house. It works fine if your DH gets up and lights them.We also used the fireplace,in this house we never used the fireplace, all it has in it is dust.It rarely get very cold for very long.Last year we had snow for the first time in years and not much of that. This morning I had a fight with three young macaws, they would not step up,had to use the step-up stick.Get them on the stick then onto my hand, like trying to get three, three yr old kid to do something they don't want, got to find a way around or you lose. More outside work today cann't lose these nice days. BBL

Good morning ladies and Doug. I slept good last night too. I finished the album of Rich's and my 2007 trip to CA to see Cathy, the local sites and the Grand Canyon. Now I have to get papers, embellishments, etc ready for my Saturday 9 hr crop in Albany. Two friends are going with me. This time I'm doing the "Walking With Dinosaurs" trip we made to Atlantic City in September. After this one, I'm going to work on some digital albums. Nothing else planned for today, except for checkbook and bills.
Cathy said she 'might' leave tomorrow. I want to cook dinner tonight, but haven't a clue what to make. I get stuck into making the same things over and over. I don't know how Doris does it with making the same things every day. I would slit my wrists and immediately hang myself in a closet. Its not only food that I need variety with. I need it with just about every thing, except for men. I have multiple hobbies, so I can rotate what I do. I don't like to stay home all the time. I like to travel and see different places. I need to change/redecorate my home too periodically.Jezzie, I love that picture of Kiran too. He is full of joy. Judy, I can understand how you need a quiet space of your own. With 5 parrots nagging me and Rich playing his music, I go upstairs or to my office to escape. Judy, I think only the admins can delete a posting. You can go back in for awhile and edit what you've already done. Then that window of opportunity closes too. Louise, I'm looking forward to seeing that dollhouse. Are you going to furnish it too? Or let the new owner do it? Gladys, those darn parrots learn very quickly to say 'no', don't they? Every once in awhile we have to do a bit of remedial training on ours. The next one due for one is Rudy, our Lory. Cathy is leaving her here. At the moment, I'm the only one who can pick her up. She loves Cathy but attacks her at every opportunity. After Cathy leaves and is not around to distract Rudy, I will be doing some retraining in a neutral place, probably my office. When she bites, and she will, she is getting a short time out in the bathtub. When I hear her tone change, I will go in to rescue her. Of course, this will be after my hands and arms are covered with bites. Lory's are so different from hookbills when it comes to behavior. Speaking of heating, we are trying everything to keep me warm this winter. Besides the central heat which is set to 73º, Rich is installing a thermostat controlled electric baseboard heater in the living room. I have an electric throw for the sofa. A baseboard electric heater in the bedroom. I have gotten frost bit at 50º. All due to the neuro-muscular and damaged hypothalmus problem. I need the heat to be at least 76º, but we are trying these other things to see if I can manage at 73º. I hate the cost of having the heat so high, but the alternative is the hospital. Sometimes I feel like a real burden to Rich.

bbl- late start to the day.
Verleen, I swear by Cashmere- lightweight and WARM. I learned to dress in layers and could not stand wool so Cashmere was made to order for me... no bulk and feels like heaven. Two pull over long sleeve sweaters is like a heavy winter coat and a long skirt over slacks is great and do not forget to cut the tips out of gloves for around the house. I also toss on those furry fabric scarves in the house in the morning and at night. cold- heat and hunger lead us around don't they? bbl Elaine

Verleen, variety of foods is what made me become over 200 pounds! Too many CHOICES, and I always made the wrong ones, obviously. We can't afford alot of choices in food anyway, so it works out now.
I wish you an enjoyable scrapping this weekend.Jezzie, an adorable picture for sure, do you have a large one in a frame at home? I finished an hour and 40 min on the bike, will do the rest later on. What exercises do you guys do anyway?? Dedicated exercises I mean, not household stuff? I'm interested to know, since not many post on the daily exercise thread. Be back later to yak more, gotta hit the H1N1 phones again. Doris |

Elaine, You didn't miss anything. I added the quote on after my first posting and for some reason I wound up with another posting the same. Just call me technologically challenged.
For some reason, the Frisbee quote always makes me laugh. Judy |

I remember now that you mention it again Verleen, how the cold affects you so dearly. Can you go to Texas for awhile, it's not so darned cold there?? Would that be a choice for you?
Finally have a "deal" on those darned H1N1 shots, from our county health department. Had a dickens of a time, they suddenly got some shot units shipped in, but they require a doctor's note, no if's, and's or but's. So I call our clinic, and they don't know nuthin', and told me we have to make a separate doctor appt., and they are booked through all next week! Health Dept. was not pleased, so I called clinic again, had doctor's nurse call me back, and they agreed to do the notes for us, we pick them up tomorrow and go to the Health Dept., between 2 and 4 pm. Hopefully it won't be crowded with lines of others, but they are all supposed to be pregnant, kids, or immune system compromised with notes from doctor's, lol lol. The government makes it so hard to get those shots, but on the news they keep yelling at us all to "get your shots!!!" Nitwits!!! ![]() I got 3 hrs. in on the bike today, due to extra soccer games and anger at people on the phone!! At least I didn't eat extra. ![]() D |

Judy, hahahahaha then it hits me!
I have lost my sense of humor but of all the things I ever lost I miss my mind the most.
I blew it and now feel rotten. I ate 2 whoppers and part of a small fries then ate a choc donut and then had a french vanilla latte and a walnut brownie... I should be taken out and shot. I did only use the bun of one burger and no cheese but I am still so ashamed. Then to top it off I got a e-mail when I got home that my cell phone was left under my chair at the clinic. I will pick it up tomorrow. Nighty night to all. e. ![]() |

Lainey, forgive yourself and live to start another day. I have had a lot of those days since my Dad died. Just trying to make myself feel better.
Watching the worlds series and wanting the Penn. to win. Doris, that makes me so mad that you are having that challenge to get the shot. You are my hero. Well, sigh, not contributing a lot here but think of all of you. ![]() |

Thanks Janie,
It was coming on and I knew it so in a way it is good that it is over- Gosh knows I sure could have done lots worse- greasy fried foods and all the starches would have been worse I feel pretty sure- butter & bread to top it all off and gravy as well so I am figuring 1/4 of the damage that could have been.
Doris, good news about the shots- YOU are the good wife and I admire you so much. Verleen- I worry now about you getting too cold. Those tiny ceramic elec. heaters really, truly crank some heat and you can place it very close to you. I keep one next to me when I am on the computer in the dead of winter and am amazed how toasty it is but I do UNPLUG it when I leave it and head for the elec. blankey on the bed. The rest of the house can be very cold but I cannot see heating rooms that are vacant overnight. My 42 inch TV warms the area where I sit to watch a movie or a show I like. DVD's I try to watch during the day when the sun warms that room, Solar is a beautiful thing and I am lucky that I have the morning sun in my bedroom then the TV room, then living room and finishing in the kitchen/laundry room. The bathroom and computer room never see the sun. Winters I go to bed really early- 9 and 10 O'clock to read so heat is really conserved fairly well. Thanks again Jane and I just feel broken hearted knowing how you are feeling about your Dad... I am praying so hard for you as I sometimes did not think I was going to make it through. Please, please remember that G*d stays very close to the grieving ones. You are loved. Night, night everyone. Elaine ![]() Last edited by Norfolk Mermaid; 11-04-2009 at 09:35 PM.. |

Doris, I'm happy for you that you found a way to get those shots.
Lainey, stop beating yourself up over what you ate. Today is a new day. Janey, good to see you. I'm always thinking of you too and hoping you heal enough so we can see you every day. Doris and Lainey, re the cold, yes, I'm thinking of spending some of the winter in Texas if Cathy gets a place of her own. I'm not sure when that will happen because of the economy. She and her father will be at Anita's (dd2) helping with her family's economic setbacks for awhile. Finding the right temperature is tricky for me. Its not a simple matter of putting on more clothes. The ambient air has to be warm enough. If I breathe in air that is too cold for me, my body temperature begins to drop. In a normal person, the hypothalamus in their brain regulates their body temperature. Because of that, you maintain your 98.6 temp when its freezing outside or on a hot day in the sun. That part of my hypothalamus was destroyed by the polio virus and my body temperature drops as if I were dying. Hence, that is how I get frostbit at what would seem too warm a temperature. It gets very painful for my muscles and even immobilizes them. It has freaked out the drs at the ER because they have never encountered it before. I don't know if any of you like knowing about something you never heard of before. I like hearing about new things. |
